Symptoms

People who became ill after eating Diamond Shruumz-brand products reported a variety of severe symptoms including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting.

Stores Affected

All Diamond Shruumz-brand products have been recalled and should no longer be available for sale. These products were available online and in person at a variety of retail locations nationwide including smoke/vape shops, and at retailers that sell hemp-derived products such as cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC).

FDA is aware recalled Diamond Shruumz-brand products may still be available for sale at several smoke/vape shops, and at retailers that sell hemp-derived products such as cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC). All Diamond Shruumz-brand products have been recalled and should not be sold. Consumers should not purchase any Diamond Shruumz-brand products. If you know of a retailer (online or in-person) continuing to sell recalled Diamond Shruumz-brand product, you can report this information to FDA.

A list of store names and locations where the recalled products were available for retail sale is included in the recall announcement. There may be additional retailers not included on this list that are continuing to sell the recalled product. This list will be updated as additional stores are identified.

Recommendation

• Consumers should not buy or eat any flavor of Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, or Gummies.
• Consumers should check their homes and discard these products or return them to the company for a refund.
• These products may appeal to children and teenagers. Parents and caregivers should consider discussing the information in this advisory with their children and take extra care to avoid these products being consumed by younger people.
• Retailers should not sell or distribute any flavor of Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, or Gummies, and should hold the product in a secure location and contact the recalling company to initiate the return and refund.
• If you become ill after consuming these products, please contact your healthcare provider and/or call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222. Let them know you have recently consumed the Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and/or Gummies.
• Healthcare providers should report these illnesses to their local health department and/or the Poison Help Line.

As of September 4, 2024, test results are available for 10 Diamond Shruumz-brand Infused Cones and have been summarized in the Sample Results section below.

As of August 30, 2024, a total of 158 illnesses have been reported from 32 states; 63 have been hospitalized, and there are two potentially associated deaths.

Sample Results

September 5, 2024

As part of their recall announcement, Prophet Premium Blends, LLC indicated that Diamond Shruumz-brand products contain muscimol. To date, FDA has tested 22 samples of Chocolate Bars, 10 Infused Cones, and one raw ingredient that was reportedly used in the manufacturing of some Diamond Shruumz-brand products. Nine (9) of the 22 Chocolate Bars, five (5) of the 10 Infused Cones, and the raw ingredient were found to contain muscimol. Muscimol does not appear in all products and cannot explain all the symptoms reported by ill patients who consumed the Diamond Shruumz-brand products.

In addition to muscimol, FDA analyses of Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bar and Infused Cone samples identified the presence of the following compounds:

• Acetylpsilocin (also known as 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine, 4-acetoxy-DMT, O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin) was found in nine (9) Chocolate Bar samples and five (5) Infused Cone samples;
• Psilocin, a Schedule I-controlled substance, was found in four (4) Chocolate Bar samples and five (5) Infused Cone samples;
• Pregabalin, a prescription drug, was found in three (3) Chocolate Bar samples and five (5) Infused Cone samples;
• Desmethoxyyangonin, dihydrokavain, and kavain (kavalactones found in the kava plant), were all present together in 18 Chocolate Bar samples and all 10 of the Infused Cone samples;.
• Ibotenic acid and muscimol were detected in the raw ingredient that was reportedly used in the manufacturing of some Diamond Shruumz-brand products.

Results in the table below show different compounds present in different flavors of Chocolate Bars and Infused Cones, but even for the same flavor of the Diamond Shruumz brand product, there may be variations in what compounds are present.

Although these compounds individually have known effects when ingested, there is less research on the interactions between these compounds when ingested together. FDA and CDC medical officers are interpreting these test results to understand the health risks of ingesting these chemical substances and to determine the appropriate next steps.

Additional testing for Diamond Shruumz-brand products is ongoing, and the table below will be updated as sample results, including results Gummies, become available.

On August 20, 2024, FDA published an updated list of store names and locations known to sell Diamond Shruumz-brand products.  All Diamond Shruumz-brand products have been recalled and should not be available for sale. As of August 16, 2024, a total of 145 illnesses have been reported from 29 states; 59 have been hospitalized, and there are two potentially associated deaths.

August 14, 2024

As previously reported, FDA and state and local partners have collected multiple samples of Diamond Shruumz-brand products for testing and analysis. Sample analysis is ongoing; however, as of August 8, 2024, test results are available for 19 Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars and have been summarized in the Sample Results section below. Samples of the Diamond Shruumz-brand Cones and Gummies have also been collected and testing and analysis is ongoing.

As of August 9, 2024, a total of 130 illnesses have been reported from 29 states; 53 have been hospitalized, and there are two potentially associated deaths.

On July 30,2024, FDA published a list of store names and locations known to sell Diamond Shruumz-brand products. This comes after FDA received numerous reports of retailers continuing to sell the recalled products.

All Diamond Shruumz-brand products have been recalled and should not be sold. Consumers should not purchase any Diamond Shruumz-brand products. If you know of a retailer (online or in-person) continuing to sell recalled Diamond Shruumz-brand product, you can report this information to FDA.

A list of store names and locations is available and will be updated as additional stores are identified.

As of July 29, 2024, a total of 78 illnesses have been reported from 28 states. Sixty-five (65) of the 78 people have reported seeking medical care, 40 have been hospitalized, and there are two potentially associated deaths under investigation.

July 23, 2024

As of July 22, 2024, a total of 74 illnesses have been reported from 28 states. Sixty-two (62) of the 74 people have reported seeking medical care, 38 have been hospitalized, and there are two potentially associated deaths under investigation.

July 16, 2024

As of July 15, 2024, a total of 69 illnesses have been reported from 28 states. Sixty (60) of the 69 people have reported seeking medical care, 36 have been hospitalized, and there is one potentially associated death under investigation.

FDA is aware that recalled Diamond Shruumz-brand products are still on the shelves at several smoke/vape shops, and at retailers that sell hemp-derived products such as cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC). FDA is monitoring the firm’s recall to assess its effectiveness.

FDA is working with the National Association of Convenience Stores and the National Smoke Shop Association to increase awareness of the recall. All Diamond Shruumz-brand products have been recalled and should not be available for sale. Consumers should not purchase or consume any Diamond Shruumz-brand products. If you have seen a store continuing to sell recalled Diamond Shruumz-brand products, you can report this information to FDA.

As of July 8, 2024, a total of 58 illnesses have been reported from 27 states. 50 of the 58 people have reported seeking medical care, 30 have been hospitalized, and there is one potentially associated death under investigation.

As of July 1, 2024, a total of 48 illnesses have been reported from 24 states including AL (1), AZ (6), CA (1), CO (1), FL (1), GA (3), IN (5), IA (3), KY (3), MD (1), MN (1), MO (1), MT (1), NV (1), NJ (2), NY (1), NC (3), ND (1), OH (2), OK (1), PA (2), SC (4), SD (1), and TN (2). Forty-six (46) of the 48 people have reported seeking medical care; Twenty-seven (27) have been hospitalized. There is one (1) potentially associated death under investigation.

June 28, 2024

The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with America’s Poison Centers and state and local partners, are investigating a series of illnesses associated with eating Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies.

On June 27, 2024, Prophet Premium Blends, LLC of Santa Ana, CA, initiated a recall of all flavors of Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies. According to the firm, these products contain muscimol, a chemical found in some mushrooms, that could be a potential cause of symptoms consistent with some symptoms observed in individuals who became ill after consuming Diamond Shruumz-brand products. FDA is evaluating this information.

As previously reported, FDA and state partners have collected multiple samples of Diamond Shruumz-brand products for testing and analysis. Additional sample analysis is ongoing, but as of June 25, 2024 test results for two individual chocolate bars collected from a retail store have identified the presence of the following:

• Diamond Shruumz Dark Chocolate Bar
  • 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (4-acetoxy-DMT, also known as O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin)
  • desmethoxyyangonin
  • dihydrokavain
  • kavain
• Diamond Shruumz Birthday Cake Chocolate Bar
  • 4-acetoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine (4-acetoxy-DMT, also known as O-acetylpsilocin or psilacetin)

There may be variability in test results across products with different formulations as well as potential variability across lots and batches of the same product. FDA has been in contact with the firm about a possible voluntary recall, but to date, the firm has not initiated the recall.

As part of this investigation, FDA and state partners have collected multiple samples of Diamond Shruumz-brand products for testing and analysis. Additional sample analysis is ongoing, but as of June 25, 2024 test results for two individual chocolate bars collected from a retail store have identified the presence of the following:

As part of this investigation, FDA and state partners have collected multiple samples of Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars and the analysis is ongoing. FDA's investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of these illnesses and the appropriate next steps.

As of June 17, 2024, a total of 26 illnesses have been reported from 16 states including AL (1), AZ (6), CA (1), IN (3), KY (2), MD (1), MN (1), MO (1), MT (1), NV (1), NJ (1), NY (1), NC (1), PA (1), SC (3), and TN (1). Twenty-five (25) of the 26 people have reported seeking medical care; 16 have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

June 11, 2024

The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with America’s Poison Centers and state and local partners, are investigating a series of illnesses associated with eating Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies.

As of June 10, 2024, additional Diamond Shruumz-brand products have been reported by people who became ill, including the Diamond Shruumz-brand Chocolate Bars, Cones, and Gummies. A total of 12 illnesses have been reported from eight states including AL (1), AZ (4), IN (2), KY (1), MO (1), NV (1), PA (1), and SC (1). All 12 people have reported seeking medical care; 10 have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. FDA is working to determine the cause of these illnesses and is considering the appropriate next steps. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

June 7, 2024

The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with America’s Poison Centers and state and local partners, are investigating a series of illnesses associated with eating Diamond Shruumz-brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars.

As of June 7, 2024, a total of eight illnesses have been reported from four states including AZ (4), IN (2), NV (1), and PA (1). All eight people have reported seeking medical care; six have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. FDA is working to determine the cause of these illnesses and is considering the appropriate next steps. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
