EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- September is Suicide Prevention Month. This year’s theme is “Joining Your Fight: Connect to Protect.”
During September, the Defense Department brings added attention to the complex issue of suicide and emphasizes the available resources and supports.
“Suicide prevention is a top priority at Eglin,” said Lindsey Sharpe, 96th Test Wing Integrated Prevention and Resiliency Office chief. “People are our most important asset. Keeping them healthy and safe is a must. All base helping agencies are committed to suicide prevention by creating connections, reinforcing healthy habits, and letting our community members know we care.”
The following events are scheduled in support of Suicide Prevention Month:
- Resiliency 5K Color Run - Sept. 6, CE Pavilion, 7 a.m. Base helping agency representatives will provide information about resiliency, awareness and prevention along the route. For more information, call 882-6223.
- Positive messaging campaign – Sept. 10, East and West Gates, 6 to 8 a.m. 96th Test Wing Integrated Prevention and Resiliency Office and resiliency training representatives will offer positive messaging information to drivers once they enter the base. For more information, call (318) 580-1794.
- EscaRosa Coalition Suicide Prevention Month virtual training - Sept. 11, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The EscaRosa Coalition, a community group that supports Escambia and Santa Rosa counties and works with the 96th TW IPRO Office, will host a special training on suicide prevention strategies focused on service members, veterans and their families.
