1. SCOPE
This Privacy Notice applies to personal information processed by us, including on our websites, applications, and other online or offline offerings. To make this Privacy Notice easier to read, our websites, applications, and other offerings are collectively called “Services.”
This Privacy Notice applies to information we collect and use for our own purposes, including information we collect from and about visitors to the website, customers when they register for or access the Services, and individuals in relation to our marketing activities. In these situations, Doppler is considered the “data controller” for purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar data protection laws.
This Privacy Notice does not apply to data Doppler processes on behalf of our customers in our capacity as a processor, including data collected from and about members that customers add to their Doppler workplaces. Doppler has no direct control or ownership of the personal information we process on behalf of our customers, and we process that data solely in accordance with our customers’ instructions. In addition, this Privacy Notice does not apply to any third-party applications or software that integrate with the Services. For information on how to contact us, please refer to “Contact Us” below.
2. PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
The categories of personal information we collect depend on how you interact with us, our Services, and the requirements of applicable law. We collect information that you provide to us, information we obtain automatically when you use our Services, and information from other sources such as third-party services and organizations, as described below.
A. Information You Provide to Us Directly
We may collect the following personal information that you provide to us.
- Doppler Account Creation. We may collect information when you create an account, such as name, email address, a password which we ask you to create and an optional profile photo which you can elect to provide to us through Gravatar, a third-party provider. Please note that your profile information may be visible to other Doppler users.
- Purchasing a Plan. When you purchase a plan for our Services, we require that you provide us or our third-party payment processor with certain information in order to facilitate billing. This can include your name and billing address, credit or other payment card details, and/or banking information. We do not directly collect or store any payment card information entered through our Services, but we may receive limited information associated with your payment card information (e.g., the last four digits of your payment card, zip code, or your card expiration date).
- Your Communications with Us. When you contact us by email; through our branded social media accounts; through our integrated chat providers; or by phone, SMS, or physical mail, we may collect personal information, such as name, username, email address, phone number, mailing address, and the contents of your communication which can include any information you choose to provide. We may also record voice or video calls we have with you as part of the sales process. We use this call data to improve our services. If we intend to record a sales call, we will indicate to you at the outset that the call will be recorded, and unless we are required to record the call, you have the option to not proceed.
- Surveys. We may contact you to participate in surveys. If you decide to participate, you may be asked to provide certain information which may include personal information. Providing this information is voluntary and will be used for the purposes described to you in this Privacy Notice or for any other purpose that is clearly disclosed to you in connection with the survey.
- Interactive Features. We and others who use our Services may collect personal information that you submit or make available through our interactive features (e.g., messaging and chat features, commenting functionalities, forums, blogs, and social media pages). Any information you provide using the public sharing features of the Services (referred to herein as “User Content”) will be considered “public,” unless otherwise required by applicable law, and is not subject to the privacy protections referenced herein. Please exercise caution before revealing any information that may identify you in the real world to other users.
- Sweepstakes or Contests. We may collect personal information you provide for any sweepstakes or contests that we offer. In some jurisdictions, we are required to publicly share information of sweepstakes and contest winners.
- Conferences, Trade Shows, and Other In-Person Events. We may collect personal information from individuals when individuals swipe their badge or provide information to us at conferences, trade shows, and other events we may host or sponsor. This information may include your name, job title, company name, address, phone number, and email address. Occasionally, we may record events and make those recordings accessible to other Doppler users or the general public. If we do so, we will indicate that the event will be recorded.
- Online Events. From time to time, we may offer online events. To enable these events, we stream video and audio feed of interactions between participants as well as the contents of any communications enabled by integrated chat functions within any third-party services that we use to provide the events. This includes collecting your image, voice, movements, physical environment, and any other information provided during the event. Occasionally, we may record events and make those recordings accessible to other Doppler users or the general public. If we do so, we will indicate that the event will be recorded.
- Business Development and Strategic Partnerships. We may collect personal information from individuals and third parties to assess and pursue potential business opportunities.
B. Information We Collect Automatically
We also collect certain information about you automatically as you navigate our Services or interact with our emails.
To collect his information, we, or our third-party advertising or analytics partners, may use cookies or similar technologies. A “cookie” is a small text file that websites send to a visitor’s computer or other internet-connected device to uniquely identify the visitor’s browser or to store information or settings in the browser. We, and our third-party advertising and analytics providers, use cookies in order to provide the Services, including recognizing you when you return to our website, saving your preferences (including your preferences regarding cookie handling), understanding which sections and features of our Services you find most interesting, ensure our Services are working properly, and preventing fraud.We use both session cookies (which expire when you close your browser) and persistent cookies (which stay on your computer until you delete them or until they expire).
Certain pages on the Services may contain “web beacons” (also known as Internet tags, pixel tags, tracking beacons and clear GIFs). A web beacon is a transparent graphic image placed on a web page or in an email, which indicates that a page or email has been viewed or that an email has been forwarded. In addition, a web beacon allows third parties to obtain information such as the IP address of the computer that downloaded the page on which the beacon appears, the URL of the page on which the beacon appears, the time the page containing the beacon was viewed, the type of browser used to view the page, and the information in cookies set by the third party. A web beacon may also tell your browser to get content from another server.
The information we collect automatically can include the following:
- Device information. We may collect information about the device you use to access our Services, including the internet protocol (IP) address, hardware model, operating system and version, unique device identifiers and network information.
- Log information. We may collect information such as the date, time, length of stay, search terms used to reach our website, and specific pages or features accessed during your visit to our website or the Doppler application. We use this information to determine the popularity of certain content, to save your preferences, and to improve the Services.
- Usage information. This includes the number and frequency of visitors to our website and actions taken within the Doppler application.
- Location information. We may collect general location information inferred from your IP address.

C. Information Collected from Other Sources
We may obtain information about you from other sources, including the following:
- Third-Party Services. We allow you to enable a variety of Third-Party Services, on our Services. For instance, users can connect their accounts GitHub, Heroku, and Datadog to their Doppler workplace. Once enabled, the provider of a Third-Party Service may share certain information with Doppler such as the username and email address associated with that user on the Third-Party Service as well as additional information that the provider has chosen to make available to Doppler to facilitate the integration. You should check the privacy settings and privacy policies of these Third-Party Services to understand what information may be shared with Doppler.
- Third-Party Authentication Providers. Doppler allows you to sign up and log in to our platform using third-party authentication providers, such as Google and GitHub. If you choose to sign up and log in in this manner, the third-party authentication service will ask your permission to share certain information with us, including your name and email address. You can control the information that we receive from third-party authentication providers using the privacy settings in your accounts with those services.
- Event Partners. We may also receive information about you from our event partners. For instance, if you attend a trade show or an event which we sponsor, the organizer may provide us with your name and contact information in accordance with the disclosure they made to you so that we can reach out to you to discuss our products and services.
- Other Individuals at Your Organization. We may collect your personal information from another individual at your organization who may provide us with your business contact information in order to invite you to join a team workplace.
- Publicly Available Sources and Other Third Parties. We may obtain personal information about you from other sources, including public records, publicly available information online, and third parties that help us update, expand, and analyze our records and inform our marketing and recruitment efforts. For instance, we may use information from LinkedIn or from a third-party data provider, like Crunchbase to update information about you in our contact database.
3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use your information for a variety of business purposes, including to provide our Services, for administrative purposes, and to market our products and Services, as described below.
A. Provide Our Services
We use your information to fulfill our contract with you and provide you with our Services, such as:
- Deciding whether to enter into a business relationship with you;
- Managing your information and accounts;
- Providing access to certain areas, functionalities, and features of our Services;
- Answering requests for customer or technical support;
- Communicating with you about your account, activities on our Services, and policy changes;
- Processing your financial information and other payment methods for products or Services purchased;
- Processing applications if you apply for a job we post on our Services; and
- Allowing you to register for events.
B. Administrative Purposes
We use your information for various administrative purposes, such as:
- Pursuing our legitimate interests such as direct marketing, research and development (including marketing research), network and information security, and fraud prevention;
- Detecting security incidents, protecting against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent or illegal activity, and prosecuting those responsible for that activity;
- Measuring interest and engagement in our Services;
- Short-term, transient use, such as contextual customization of ads;
- Improving, upgrading or enhancing our Services;
- Developing new products and Services;
- Ensuring internal quality control and safety;
- Authenticating and verifying individual identities, including requests to exercise your rights under this notice;
- Debugging to identify and repair errors with our Services;
- Auditing relating to interactions, transactions and other compliance activities;
- Enforcing our agreements and policies; and
- Complying with our legal obligations.
C. Marketing and Advertising our Products and Services
We may use personal information to tailor and provide you with content and advertisements. We may provide you with these materials as permitted by applicable law. Some of the ways we market to you include email campaigns, contextual advertising, and “interest-based” or “personalized advertising,” including through re-marketing.

D. Other Purposes
We also use your information for other purposes as requested by you or as permitted by applicable law.
- Consent. We may use personal information for other purposes that are clearly disclosed to you at the time you provide personal information or with your consent.
- De-identified and Aggregated Information. We may use personal information and other information about you to create de-identified and/or aggregated information, such as de-identified demographic information, de-identified location information, information about the device from which you access our Services, or other analyses we create.
- Share Content with Friends or Colleagues. Our Services may offer various tools and functionalities. For example, we may allow you to provide information about your friends through our referral services. Our referral services may allow you to forward or share certain content with a friend or colleague, such as an email inviting your friend to use our Services. Please only share with us contact information of people with whom you have a relationship (e.g., relative, friend, neighbor, or co-worker).
4. HOW WE DISCLOSE YOUR INFORMATION
We disclose your information to third parties for a variety of business purposes, including to provide our Services, to protect us or others, or in the event of a major business transaction such as a merger, sale, or asset transfer, as described below.
A. Disclosures to Provide our Services
The categories of third parties with whom we may share your information are described below.
- Service Providers. We may share your personal information with our third-party service providers who use that information to help us provide our Services. This includes service providers that provide us with IT support, hosting, payment processing, customer service, and related services.
- Business Partners. We may share your personal information with business partners to provide you with a product or service you have requested. We may also share your personal information to business partners with whom we jointly offer products or services.
- Affiliates. We may share your personal information with our company affiliates for our administrative purposes, including activities such as IT management, for them to provide services to you or support and supplement the Services we provide.
- Other Users/Website Visitors. As described above in “Personal Information We Collect,” our Services allow you to share your profile and/or User Content with other Users/publicly, including to those who do not use our Services.
- Advertising and Analytics Partners. We allow certain third-party advertising and analytics partners to collect information regarding your activities on our Services and your device (e.g., your IP address, cookie identifiers, page(s) visited, location, time of day). These advertising and analytics partners help us measure traffic and usage trends on our Services and serve advertisements on our behalf across the internet. However, these third-party providers may combine the data they collect across multiple sites to improve analytics for their own purposes and others. - APIs/SDKs. We may use third-party Application Program Interfaces (“APIs”) and Software Development Kits (“SDKs”) as part of the functionality of our Services. For example, we use Algolia to enhance the quality of the search function on our site. For more information about our use of APIs and SDKs, please contact us as set forth in “Contact Us” below.
- Event Partners. We may share your personal information with our event partners who may contact you for their own direct advertising and marketing purposes. For instance, if you consent to have your attendee badge scanned by an exhibitor at an event we host, we may, on occasion provide your data to that exhibitor so that they may follow up with you. We may also share lists of attendees at our events with exhibitors. In that case, the exhibitors’ use of your information would be subject to the exhibitors’ privacy policies. B. Disclosures to Protect Us or Others
We may access, preserve, and disclose any information we store associated with you to external parties if we, in good faith, believe doing so is required or appropriate to: comply with law enforcement or national security requests and legal process, such as a court order or subpoena; protect your, our, or others’ rights, property, or safety; enforce our policies or contracts; collect amounts owed to us; or assist with an investigation or prosecution of suspected or actual illegal activity.
C. Disclosure in the Event of Merger, Sale, or Other Asset Transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing due diligence, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, purchase or sale of assets, or transition of service to another provider, your information may be sold or transferred as part of such a transaction, as permitted by law and/or contract.
5. YOUR PRIVACY CHOICES AND RIGHTS
You have the following rights and choices related to our use of your personal information:
A. Opting Out of Promotional Communications.
If you receive an unwanted email from us, you can use the unsubscribe link found at the bottom of the email to opt out of receiving future emails. Note that it may take up to ten (10) days for us to process your requests and you may continue receiving promotional emails from us during that period. If you opt out of receiving such communications, please be aware that you will continue to receive non-promotional emails (such as transaction-related emails regarding products or Services you have requested or emails related to our business relationship or changes to our legal terms). Similarly, you may opt out of receiving text messages from us by following the instructions in the text message you have received from us or by otherwise contacting us. We process requests to be placed on do-not-mail, do-not-phone, and do-not-contact lists as required by applicable law.
B. Accessing, Updating, and Deleting Your Account Information.
If you are a customer, you can access, update, and delete certain personal information associated with your account in your account settings. Subject to the terms of your agreement with us, you may also delete your account through your account settings. For all other changes, please email us at [email protected]. Please note that if you choose to close your account, we may keep certain personal information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations or for legitimate business purposes, such as to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements. We may also keep cached archived copies of personal information for a certain period of time.If you receive access to Doppler Services from your employer, you may be able to access, update and delete certain personal information associated with your account in your account settings. For all other changes, please contact your employer.
6. ADDITIONAL DISCLOSURES FOR RESIDENTS OF THE EEA, UK, AND SWITZERLAND
The laws in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), and Switzerland require businesses to disclose certain information, including (i) the controller(s) of your Personal Information, (ii) the legal bases relied on to use or disclose your personal information (iii) your legal rights with respect to your personal information, (iv) safeguards used for transferring your personal information outside of these jurisdictions, and (v) the contact details of the controller and/or data protection offer.
