Barbie star Helen Mirren has revealed that a scene involving herself with Olivia Colman was eventually cut from the film.

Mirren starred as The Narrator in Greta Gerwig's smash-hit comedy, which followed Stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) as they venture into the real world.

Despite having an off-screen role, Mirren revealed to Variety that she almost appeared in the flesh in the film alongside Colman, but that the small scene was eventually cut from the edit.

"It was a very funny scene with Olivia Colman sort of playing drunk and us clashing about who is the real grande dame of British actresses," revealed Mirren. "She comes in and tries to take over the role of the Narrator and I had to fight her off."

Mirren and Colman weren't the only famous faces to have their cameos not come to fruition, with Saoirse Ronan revealing that she was set to film a scene alongside Timothée Chalamet, but scheduling conflicts prevented this reality.

"I don't know what he was going to be, but I was definitely going to be a Weird Barbie," said Ronan. "I don't know how to take that. I would have been with Kate McKinnon, so that would have been nice. I had a scene but didn't ever get to do it, and it wasn't in the movie.

"I can't even remember [the scene] now, but it was weird. I think I'd be the strange girl who talked to herself and always had her pet dog with her and always talked to the dog and wouldn't look at anyone."

Barbie is available on DVD and Blu-ray now.
