Tesco and Sainsbury's shopper makes £2,500 'free money' with special app
You can use the app at many major retail chains
A savings app could save you thousands of pounds at supermarket giants including Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Asda. The Sprive app offers cashback discounted vouchers, to help pay off your mortgage.
One happy shopper, Christopher Gilbert, 40, from Surrey Hills, is set to slash a whopping £2,500 off his mortgage interest and significantly reduce his mortgage thanks to the easy-to-use app. He said: "Shop with Sprive is literally free money – you are doing the shopping anyway, and it doesn’t cost you any more to use the app, but it does earn you money to overpay."
He has been bagging cashback at the tills from his weekly shops at Tesco and Sainsbury's, with other savings from Waitrose, M&S, and John Lewis. Sprive can also be used at Morrisons, Asda, and even popular foodie spots like Costa Coffee, Greggs, and Pizza Express.
Mr Gilbert voiced his delight at the cash he's saving, saying: "We have only been using the app for a few months, and already we are on track to save almost £2,500 in interest and shave 3 years off the mortgage term, and the best thing of all is it actually hasn’t cost me anything to do. My only regret is that I didn’t know about it sooner."
Mr Gilbert is a senior sales consultant who has had £400,000 mortgage since 2009. He is on a 1.79 percent five-year fixed deal and signed up for Sprive in August 2024.
He explained: "Sprive offers another way of overpaying my mortgage with zero hassle. On a normal month, I would pay around £125 in overpayments but on a good month, more than £400."
Further setting out how much he saves, he said: "With the Shop with Sprive feature - which is so easy to use - I’m averaging about £65 per month in overpayments just from cashback." The savvy saver also bagged some cashback on a shopping spree at B&Q, when he spent £400 on some home improvements.
The app from Sprive doesn't just end with cashback treats. Users can also arrange for payments from their bank each month towards their mortgage.
