Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman Predicts Success for David Ellison as Paramount's New CEO, Highlights Sony's Agility as an 'Arms Dealer' Studio

Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman commented that David Ellison will perform well as Paramount's new CEO if the $8 billion Skydance-Paramount deal is finalized. Rothman says Sony remains financially nimble as an "arms dealer" studio distributing other studios' films, unlike Paramount, which has debt from Paramount+. Sony is distributing the new Greg Berlanti romantic comedy "Fly Me to the Moon" starring Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson, which opens this weekend. Rothman believes the female moviegoing audience for rom-coms hasn't been lost to streaming if studios continue to make them.
