Meet Spain's new queen

From reporter to princess to queen.

Princess Letizia Ortiz will become Spain's new queen when her her husband, Prince Felipe of Spain is sworn in as King.

This follows the abdication of his father King Juan Carlos, who reigned for 39 years.

Ortiz met Prince Felipe while covering the Prestige oil tanker disaster in November 2002 and their engagement was announced a year later.

During the first few years of their marriage, she gained a reputation for self-confidence, style and good fashion.

However, Paloma Barrientos, a journalist who covers the royal family, says Ortiz has struggled to gain the affection of Spaniards, who often criticize her as being distant and cold.
