Tuesday’s ABC Presidential Debate drew an estimated 57.5 million viewers across eight networks, according to early Nielsen data. ABC News topped the chart with 18.31 million viewers, followed by NBC News (9.7 million), Fox News (8.67 million), MSNBC (6.02 million), CBS News (5.91 million), Fox Broadcasting (4.74 million), CNN (4.11 million) and Fox Business Network (287,000). That’s versus 51.3 million viewers who tuned in for the President Biden/Donald Trump in June, a figure that included nine networks and out-of-home viewing.
By AdImpact’s count, the debate reached 71.3 million viewers across networks and streaming. Traditional linear television accounted for 53.2% of the total audience, YouTube and YouTube TV captured 15.3%, and other streaming platforms collectively held 31.5% of the viewership.
FOX News Media sent letters to both the Harris and Trump campaigns shortly before Tuesday’s event proposing an additional debate in October, hosted by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. Trump had other ideas. Asked Wednesday morning on “Fox & Friends” about the offer, the candidate said he wouldn’t want Baier and MacCallum as moderators, suggesting Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham or Jesse Watters instead.
National auto ad spend in August rose 6.1% year over year, to $128.8 million, according to iSPot.tv. The top five brands by estimated August spend were Toyota ($23.4 million), Kia ($9.6 million), Volkswagen ($9.6 million), Subaru ($9.6 million) and Hyundai ($9.5 million). Year to date the picture’s not as pretty – at $1.4 billion, ad spend is down 5.1%.

Pay up, ruled an EU court in Google’s attempt to overturn an antitrust penalty of $2.17 billion imposed in 2017. Google was accused of favoring its own price-comparison service in search results, putting competitors at a disadvantage. “By today’s judgment, the Court of Justice dismisses the appeal and thus upholds the judgment of the General Court,” said the court in a press release.

The partnership between the NFL and Amazon Web Services will be on display during this week’s games with the debut of a new AI-powered Next Gen Stat. The Tackle Probability model predicts, at any given moment of a play, the likelihood that a given defender will make a tackle, and can be used to calculate various metrics that can be applied to both offensive and defensive analysis, such as missed tackle attempts by a defender and missed tackles forced by a ball carrier. “The NFL and AWS share a passion for innovation and we are excited to continue to drive advancements across the NFL ecosystem,” said Julie Souza, Global Head of Sports at AWS. “As we look ahead, this partnership represents an opportunity for the NFL and AWS to reimagine the future of football in a world of quickly evolving technology.”
