The upcoming Final Cut Pro version 10.7 brings in improvements to timeline navigation and organization, as well as new changes that Apple says will simplify complex edits.
And Final Cut Pro for iPad 1.3 includes new features intended to enhance using the professional-grade video-editing application on a touchscreen.
Improvements in Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.7
Macs are very popular with creatives, and Apple makes sure they have a pro-grade tool to import, edit, and process video footage, as well as output it to a wide variety of formats. And that application is Final Cut Pro.
It’s been around for decades, but Apple keeps improving it with new technology. The largest enhancements take advantage of the M series of processors and an AI-powered Object Tracker.
The new version of the macOS app also introduces automatic timeline scrolling so clips in view under the playhead during playback. And the update makes it easier to differentiate clips by assigned role.
Editors can combining a selected group of overlapping connected clips into a storyline, and also combine connected clips with existing storylines.
Object tracking now includes all-new machine-learning model. “Results are improved when using Object Tracker to analyze the movement of faces and other objects on Mac computers with Apple silicon,” noted Apple.
Exporting projects as H.264 and HEVC is faster, too.
Apple’s Final Cut Pro for iPad updated, too
Apple introduced Final Cut Pro for iPad in spring 2023, and an update to the application is on the way. Version 1.3 includes new voiceover capabilities so creators can easily record narration and live audio directly in the timeline.
And FCP users can now turn stabilization on in the pro camera mode to improve shaky footage for smoother videos, or leave it off to emphasize action and movement.
Creators can combine a group of connected clips or storylines into a single connected storyline.
“Users can now finish their videos with a number of stunning new color-grading presets and a selection of new titles and generators to dial in the perfect look,” said Apple.
Available ‘later this month’
Final Cut Pro 10.7 will be available later in November on the Mac App Store. It’s a free update for existing users, or the app is $299.99 (U.S.) for new users.
Final Cut Pro for iPad 1.3 will also be available later in November on the App Store. The application is $4.99 (U.S.) per month or $49 (U.S.) per year. FCP is compatible with M1 iPad models or later, and requires iPadOS 16.6.
