Apple’s big iOS 13 update has now made its way to an impressive 70% of all iPhones and 57% of all iPads, Cupertino’s latest data reveals.

Just 23% of Apple smartphones are running iOS 12, while a mere 7% are running an earlier version of its software. A whopping 77% of all devices introduced in the last four years have been upgraded.

The ability to update to Apple’s latest software the moment it becomes available is one of the big advantages iOS has over Android. And users are always keen to grab those updates quickly.

It took just one month for iOS 13 to reach more than half of all iPhones. Now the software has taken over more than two-thirds of compatible handsets.

iOS 13 expands its reach

Apple’s latest figures shows that iOS 13 is running on 77% of all Apple smartphones and 79% of all Apple tablets released in the last four years. Just 2% of those iPads are running iOS 11 or earlier.

If you take all iPhones and all iPads into account, the adoption figure is 70% and 57%, respectively.

iOS 12 still had a sizable grip on iPhone last October, when it was running on 38% of all devices introduced in the last four years. That figure has now fallen to just 17%.

Why is this a good thing?

Impressive adoption rates like these aren’t just another thing for Apple to gloat about. They also make it easier for both Apple and third-party developers to support iOS devices.

Android developers will tell you that building for Google’s platform can be problematic because so many people are running different versions of Android, each with different features. That’s not a problem on iOS, where almost all devices are running a recent iOS release.

Fast adoption rates also mean more users are getting their hands on Apple’s latest security improvements and bug fixes. And those ensure a better experience overall.
