Apple suppliers have began preparing shipments of second-generation AirPods Pro ahead of their introduction later this year, according to a new report.

AirPods Pro 2 are expected to come with a revised design that does away with stems, as well as improved audio quality — including support for lossless Apple Music tracks. They could also be a lot easier to find when they go missing.

New AirPods Pro on track to debut this year

AirPods Pro are well over two years old now. And while they remain some of the best wireless earbuds in Apple’s lineup, there’s no denying that they could certainly use an upgrade. All signs point to that happening in 2022.

A new report from Digitimes, citing industry sources in the supply chain, claims suppliers are now preparing to ship AirPods Pro 2 units to Apple ahead of their official introduction in the second half of this year.

Earlier rumors indicate Cupertino next-generation wireless buds will be well worth the wait. They are expected to sport a new design that does away with stems — unlike anything we’ve seen from AirPods buds before.

A new AirPods case that’s easier to find

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has proven reliable in the past, also expects AirPods Pro 2 to come with a new case that packs a built-in speaker, allowing it to emit a sound that makes it easier to locate when it’s lost.

Fans can also expect even better sound quality, with support for lossless tracks in Apple Music. This will likely be enabled by a new Apple chip, which will be the first time AirPods have seen a silicon upgrade since 2019.
