Some new research has said you should visit one specific town in summer to avoid crowds - but we're not so sure. Cornwall's a beautiful place and each year our glorious county attracts millions of holidaymakers - and at times it can be a bit much.

You can forget going to St Ives in July or August, good luck finding a parking space in Newquay when it's sunny, and don't even think about Fowey unless you love standing shoulder to shoulder with pasty munching emmets. But don't worry, if you like the quieter side of life the experts at Leisure Lakes Bikes have you covered, apparently.

It said you should visit, wait for it... Padstow to "avoid the hustle and bustle". You heard it here first folks, Padstow is the haven of tranquillity we've all been looking for in summer - just don't tell the huge swathes of tourists who visit the town every year.

Leisure Lakes Bikes says that to avoid the hustle and bustle of crowds particularly during the summer months, Padstow is a great choice for a quieter coastal retreat in Cornwall. It describes Cornwall as "one of the UK's top destinations" with "quaint seaside towns and narrow rabbit-warren roads" - so far so good.

Next, it highlights our influx of tourists, saying that some towns can begin to feel cramped as tourists descend - they're right there.

According to Leisure Lakes Bikes, St Ives receives 540,000 day trippers and 220,000 overnight visitors every year. In comparison, they say that Padstow has around 500,000 day visitors a year - positively quiet in the parish which has a usual population of "approximately 2,500".

A source at Leisure Lakes Bikes said: "Situated on the north coast, Padstow exudes charm with its quaint harbour, narrow streets, and scenic coastal walks. Foodies will delight in the town's culinary offerings, including the famous seafood restaurants owned by celebrity chef Rick Stein."

"With its relaxed vibe and stunning scenery, Padstow offers a refreshing alternative to the hustle and bustle of St Ives."
