Memphis Grizzlies draft picks Zach Edey, Jaylen Wells sign contracts. Here's where roster stands

The Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday announced they have signed draft picks Zach Edey and Jaylen Wells to multiyear contracts.

Edey, the No. 9 pick in last month's NBA draft out of Purdue, received a four-year deal worth up to $26.2 million. That contract is based on where he was selected in the draft, like all deals for first-round picks.

Memphis had more flexibility with Wells' contract. According to a report from ESPN's Jonathan Givony, Wells — a second-round pick at No. 39 — signed a four-year, $7.9 million deal, with the first two seasons fully guaranteed. That means the former Washington State and Sonoma State star will be on a standard — not a two-way — contract.

Meanwhile, fellow second-round pick Cam Spencer (No. 53 overall) still has not been signed, but the deal to acquire him in a trade was finalized later on Saturday. Spencer could sign a two-way deal once he's officially with the Grizzlies.

If Spencer signs a two-way deal, he would be the third Grizzlies player on a two-way alongside Scotty Pippen Jr. and Trey Jemison. With the signing of Wells, Memphis now has 14 of 15 standard roster spots filled.

Where Grizzlies roster stands after Edey, Wells signed

The final roster spot could go to Luke Kennard, who is a free agent after the Grizzlies declined his team option earlier this offseason. If they re-sign Kennard to a long-term deal, all 15 spots will be accounted for and they would need to move someone to fit another signing on the roster.

Ziaire Williams, Santi Aldama and Derrick Rose are all entering the final year of their respective contracts, while the Grizzlies have a team option on Jake LaRavia for 2025-26. Lamar Stevens and Yuta Watanabe are free agents after spending the end of last season with the Grizzlies, but Watanabe declined his player option and said this offseason that he plans to play in his native Japan.

Both Edey and Wells are expected to take part in NBA summer league. The Grizzlies begin Monday in the Salt Lake City Summer League, followed by the Las Vegas session.
