CLEVELAND, Ohio - Walmart has replaced the Cleveland Clinic as Ohio's biggest employer, according to a new list of the state's top 100 employers.
Walmart, with 173 retail operations and five distribution centers, has 50,500 employees in the Ohio, according to the Ohio Development Services Agency.
Cleveland Clinic, headquartered in Cleveland but with medical facilities concentrated throughout northern Ohio, is second in the 2017 rankings with 49,050 employees.
A year ago, the Cleveland Clinic was first with 48,200, and Walmart was second with 46,600.
The top 100 employers - actually 102 because of a three-way tie for No. 100 - are shown below. Not in the listing from the Development Services Agency is the state of Ohio. Federal employees are included by specific location, rather than as a group.
