NCA's Cemetery Caretaker performs a variety of tasks, such as operating small tractors and riding lawn mowers; transplanting shrubs; excavating graves to the proper level; cutting and removing sod, tamping and leveling dirt using hand and power tools; digging and squaring graves using pneumatic equipment, picks and shovels; assisting in lifting and placing caskets on lowering devices; loading and unloading materials; aligning headstones; cleaning and clearing cemetery grounds of debris using power trimmers, chainsaws, axes, shovels, rakes, blowers, vacuums etc.; weeding, mulching, and applying fertilizer; pruning shrubs and low level dead branches; removing snow and ice; cleaning headstones using sprayer and hand brush; and cleaning service and administrative areas.

Motor Vehicle Operators in NCA safely operate a variety of vehicles to include, pickup trucks, dump trucks, street sweepers, compaction rollers, forklifts, backhoes, track excavator, and a variety of dumpsters, over terrain that may be uneven or unstable and over narrow curving roads in generally moderate to heavy traffic conditions. They must also be able to safely operate foot and hand controls simultaneously.

In this role, you provide specialized and general clerical duties in support of interment operations at the National Cemetery. Your goals include providing family members and visitors with assistance in locating gravesites, representing the National Cemetery by coordinating committal services, communicating with funeral directors, families and honor guards attending services or burials.

You will have the duty and privilege to serve bereaved family members concerning gravesite, marker and burial information as well as accompanying families to committal shelters and gravesites. Paid Time Off:
At VA, you start your career with 37 to 50 days of paid time off each year. Paid vacation, unlimited accumulated sick leave and 11 paid federal holidays accrue right away.


Health Care Coverage:
The Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program provides Federal employees, retirees, and their survivors the widest selection of health plans in the country. As a Federal employee, you share the cost of your health benefits premium with the Government. For most employees, the Government contribution equals the lesser of 72% of the overall weighted average or 75% of the total premium for the selected plan.

FSAFEDS Flexible Spending Account:
You may contribute up to $2,850 a year to your healthcare FSA with a $570 max carry over and save up to 30% on dependent care expenses.

Social Security paid by VA:
6.2% of taxable wages on behalf of the employee. If an individual has taxable maximum of $147,000, VA will contribute $9,114.

Medicare paid by VA:
1.45% on behalf of the employee.

Life Insurance:
VA pays 1/3 of insurance cost for basic life insurance.

Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) Federal 401(k):
VA provides up to 5% employer matched/automated contributions to your savings plan.

Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS):
VA contributes 16.6% annually to FERS-FRAE basic/defined benefit for employees hired after 1/1/2014.

VA Child Care Subsidy Program:
Assists VA employees in balancing work and family responsibilities. After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $149,000 may be eligible for childcare subsidy program (conditions apply).

Paid Parental Leave:
VA provides up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child for employees covered by Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provisions.


Transit Benefit Program:
You may qualify for transit subsidy monthly benefits of a max of $315/month if you are in the National Capital Region (NCR); check with your local HR Center or Transit Benefit Coordinator (conditions apply).

Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP):
You may be eligible to apply for SLRP, and once approved you may receive up to $40,000 per year and up to $100,000 total toward student loans in return for a 1-year service agreement.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP):
Free legal and medical services.
