Texans' Kris Boyd: Avoids serious injury
Boyd, who left Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, was diagnosed with a bruised leg, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Boyd didn't record a tackle before leaving Saturday's contest, and across four preseason outings, he registered eight tackles (seven solo) and three passes defended. Boyd is considered a strong special-teams contributor, which could help him make the Texans' 53-man roster.

Texans' Brandon Hill: Injury considered serious
Hill is believed to have sustained a serious injury to his right leg in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Hill was down on the field for an extended period of time before being carted off the field and into the locker room. Across his four outings in the preseason, Hill recorded eight tackles (four solo) and one interception. The severity of Hill's injury will likely factor into the Texans' roster decision for the 2023 seventh-round pick.

Texans' Xavier Hutchinson: Leading receiver Saturday
Hutchinson caught four of seven targets for 34 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams.
Hutchinson finished up a strong preseason, leading the team in receptions (12), targets (20) and yards (114). That should put him in consideration for what will be, at most, two available roster spots at depth wide receiver. Hutchinson is battling with John Metchie, Robert Woods, Steven Sims and Ben Skowronek.

Texans' Case Keenum: Heads to locker room Saturday
Keenum headed to locker room during Saturday's preseason game with what appeared to be an arm issue, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports.
Keenum, who walked off the field under his own power, appeared to have dinged his arm while following through on a throw. Testing revealed the 36-year-old sustained bruising. He'll be the third quarterback on the depth chart this season.

Texans' Dameon Pierce: Needs better blocking
Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans said Thursday that the blocking in front of Pierce has contributed to his 1.1 yards-per-carry average during two preseason games, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports.
Pierce's adjustment to a new zone-based scheme was slow, perhaps non-existent, in 2023, but he's been comfortable during camp. Ryans reiterated the good work Pierce has done in practice, but the results in game action have not been there. The coach indicated the back needs to get more opportunities carrying the ball, but with Joe Mixon projected to start, giving Pierce volume carries will be difficult. Pierce may have a reduced role in the backfield, but the Texans feel he can contribute in the return game.

Texans' John Metchie: Records two catches Saturday
Metchie caught two of three targets for 21 yards in Saturday's preseason finale against the Rams.
Metchie is looking to earn one of the backup spots behind the starting trio of Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell this upcoming season. The 24-year-old was coming off of a strong showing in the Texans' second preseason tilt, when he had six receptions for 68 yards and a score. Metchie figures to either make the squad or land on the team's practice squad following a strong exhibition campaign.

Texans' Cam Akers: Leading rusher Saturday
Akers took seven carries for 53 yards and caught three of four targets for 19 yards in Saturday's preseason finale against the Rams.
Akers was first player to record a touch in Saturday's exhibition, as the veteran tries to latch onto the Texans' 53-man roster ahead of the Sept. 27 deadline. The 2020 second-round pick was brought in for depth after starter Joe Mixon suffered an injury this preseason. The latter has since healed and was a healthy scratch Saturday, leaving any potential fantasy value for Akers in Houston in the rearview mirror.

Texans' Tank Dell: Sits out exhibition finale
Dell (coach's decision) was held out of Saturday's preseason finale against the Rams.
Dell continues to work with the first team offense despite the addition of superstar wideout Stefon Diggs this offseason and continued presence of Nico Collins as the No. 2 option. With C.J. Stroud looking like the real deal under center, the sophomore slot man may be a rare case in today's NFL of a true No. 3 receiver carrying "must-start" status in fantasy (a la Wes Welker with the 2007 Patriots). Dell has already proven his good health -- following last year's fractured fibula -- when he broke off a long touchdown catch in the Texans' first preseason contest.

Texans' Kris Boyd: Exits preseason game
Boyd was carted off with a leg injury during Houston's preseason game against the Rams on Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The cornerback did not record a stat before exiting. Boyd landed with the Texans last December, appeared in both of their postseason games and re-signed in the offseason. Boyd has a chance to carve out a reserve/special teams role this year, per Wilson.

Collins is among a number of Texans wideouts not dressed for Saturday's preseason contest versus the Rams, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Also expected to be held out of the contest are Stefon Diggs, Tank Dell and Robert Woods. Those four are at the head of the wide receiver depth chart for the Texans, so the team appears to be have made the decision to keep its top players out of the exhibition finale. Stroud is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Rams, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Per Wilson, fellow QBs Case Keenum and Tim Boyle are expected to play extensively Saturday as they compete for slotting behind Stroud and Davis Mills. Stroud's next game action is thus slated to occur Sept. 8 against the Colts, when he'll helm an offense that will feature a pass-catching corps led by WRs Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell, along with TE Dalton Schultz.
