Freddie Freeman LAD 1B
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Hitting only in scrimmage
8h agoFreeman (ankle) was able to bat during Thursday's intra-squad scrimmage but not play first base, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
It was a positive sign that Freeman took part in baseball activity, though this cast the first doubt about whether he'd be ready for the NLDS. That's particularly true with Shohei Ohtani locked into the DH spot. Max Muncy was playing first base, with Enrique Hernandez at the hot corner in Freeman's absence.
-
Jack Flaherty LAD SP
Dodgers' Jack Flaherty: Bumped to Game 2
9h agoFlaherty will start in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Padres on Sunday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
The Dodgers originally planned to start Flaherty in Game 1, but they are instead opting to start Yoshinobu Yamamoto to allow Yamamoto five days rest before potentially pitching in a decisive Game 5. Flaherty had a solid regular season, but he did struggle a bit down the stretch by allowing nine earned runs across his final 14 frames with a 14:9 K:BB.
-
Yoshinobu Yamamoto LAD SP
Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Now starting Game 1
9h agoYamamoto is starting Game 1 of the NLDS against San Diego on Saturday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Yamamoto was originally slated to start Game 2, but he'll flip spots with Jack Flaherty. If the series goes a full five games, Yamamoto is projected to pitch in the decisive contest. He's pitched well in his return from a triceps injury, allowing two or fewer earned runs in three of four starts.
-
Eddy Alvarez NYM 2B
Mets' Eddy Alvarez: Sent to Syracuse
10h agoThe Mets sent Alvarez outright to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday after he went unclaimed on waivers.
Alvarez was designated for assignment Tuesday, as he was ineligible to be on the postseason roster due to joining the club in September from Boston.
-
Jake Bauers MIL 1B
Brewers' Jake Bauers: Not in Game 3 lineup
11h agoBauers is absent from the lineup Thursday for Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series versus the Mets.
It's southpaw Jose Quintana on the bump for the Mets, so the left-handed hitting Bauers will yield to Gary Sanchez for the second straight day. William Contreras is receiving a turn at designated hitter while Sanchez works behind the plate. Bauers will be a candidate to come off the bench once the Mets turn to a right-handed reliever.
-
Garrett Mitchell MIL CF
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Out again versus lefty
11h agoMitchell is not in the lineup Thursday for Game 3 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Mets.
The Mets are starting a lefty for the second day in a row, and Mitchell has been out of the starting nine on both occasions. Mitchell came off the bench to deliver a go-ahead, two-run home run in the eighth inning of Game 2 and is a candidate to enter mid-game again Thursday when the Mets turn to a righty reliever. Blake Perkins is in center field and batting second in Game 3.
-
Travis d'Arnaud ATL C
Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Sitting for Game 2
1d agoD'Arnaud isn't in the lineup Wednesday for Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series against San Diego.
After starting Game 1 of the series and going 1-for-4 with a double, d'Arnaud will now take a seat on the bench while Sean Murphy catches for Max Fried, batting eighth.
-
Reese McGuire BOS C
Reese McGuire: Elects free agency
2d agoMcGuire elected free agency Monday.
McGuire initially remained in the Boston organization after being outrighted to Triple-A Worcester back in August, but with the minor-league season over, he's now on the free-agent market. The veteran catcher is a career .252/.300/.364 hitter over parts of seven big-league seasons.
-
James McCann BAL C
Orioles' James McCann: Starting at catcher in Game 1
3d agoMcCann will start at catcher and bat ninth Tuesday in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Royals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
With left-hander Cole Ragans toeing the slab for the Royals, the Orioles are going with McCann behind the plate and Adley Rutschman at designated hitter in Game 1. McCann closed out the regular season on a high note with a 1.087 OPS and four home runs in September.
-
Alex Jackson TB C
Alex Jackson: Elects free agency
3d agoJackson has elected free agency, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Jackson initially remained in the Rays' organization after being outrighted off their 40-man roster last month, but he's now exercised his right to free agency. The catcher has a career .456 OPS over parts of five major-league seasons.
-
Francisco Alvarez NYM C
Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Breather in second game
3d agoAlvarez is out of the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader in Atlanta, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Perhaps Alvarez would have gotten the start had the Mets failed to capture the first game, but since they did win that contest it makes it an easy decision to rest him for this one. Luis Torrens will catch and bat eighth.
-
Korey Lee CHW C
White Sox's Korey Lee: Struggles to close season
4d agoLee went 1-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base Sunday against the Tigers.
Lee has split time with Chuckie Robinson in September after struggling for the second half of the campaign. Since the All-Star break, he has maintained just a .242 wOBA and .558 OPS. Top prospect Edgar Quero could be ready to challenge Lee for playing time early next season.
-
Freddie Freeman LAD 1B
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Hitting only in scrimmage
8h agoFreeman (ankle) was able to bat during Thursday's intra-squad scrimmage but not play first base, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
It was a positive sign that Freeman took part in baseball activity, though this cast the first doubt about whether he'd be ready for the NLDS. That's particularly true with Shohei Ohtani locked into the DH spot. Max Muncy was playing first base, with Enrique Hernandez at the hot corner in Freeman's absence.

-
Anthony Rizzo NYY 1B
Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Yet to resume baseball activities
14h agoYankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that Rizzo (fingers) has yet to resume baseball activities, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Rizzo suffered two fractured fingers on his right hand when he was hit by a pitch in the penultimate game of the regular season. He remains a longshot to be included on the ALDS roster, but the ALCS would seemingly be more realistic if the Yankees are able to advance. Ben Rice and Oswaldo Cabrera are in line to handle first base for the ALDS.
-
Jake Bauers MIL 1B
Brewers' Jake Bauers: Idle for Game 2
1d agoBauers isn't in the Brewers' lineup Wednesday for the second game of the National League Wild Card Series versus the Mets.
The lefty-hitting Bauers will watch Wednesday's contest from the dugout with southpaw Sean Manaea set to toe the slab for New York. Gary Sanchez will serve as Milwaukee's DH and bat fifth.
-
Freddie Freeman LAD 1B
Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Will face live pitching this week
2d agoDodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said Wednesday that Freeman (ankle) is expected to face live pitching at some point during the team's workouts this week, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Freeman missed the final three games of the regular season with a right ankle injury, but he is fully expected to be ready for Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday. The Dodgers have not had Max Muncy work out at first base this week, further suggesting they don't anticipate Freeman's readiness being in question.
-
Jonathan Singleton HOU 1B
Astros' Jon Singleton: Absent from Game 2 lineup
2d agoSingleton is not in the lineup Wednesday for Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Tigers, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Lefty Tyler Holton is opening for the Tigers, with righty Reese Olson seen as likely to cover multiple innings in relief. Singleton could enter mid-game when a righty is in there, but the Astros will go with the switch-hitting Victor Caratini again at first base to begin the contest.
-
Eddy Alvarez NYM 2B
Mets' Eddy Alvarez: Sent to Syracuse
10h agoThe Mets sent Alvarez outright to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday after he went unclaimed on waivers.
Alvarez was designated for assignment Tuesday, as he was ineligible to be on the postseason roster due to joining the club in September from Boston.
-
Jorge Mateo BAL 2B
Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Expected to be ready for spring
16h agoOrioles general manager Mike Elias said Thursday that he expects Mateo (elbow) to more or less be full go for the start of spring training, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Mateo required UCL reconstruction surgery on his left elbow in late August for an injury he initially suffered in late July. Because the operation was on his non-throwing elbow, it significantly reduces the recovery time. Mateo is eligible for arbitration for a final time this winter and should be back in a utility role for the Orioles in 2025.
-
Jeff McNeil NYM 2B
Mets' Jeff McNeil: Ramping up activities
3d agoMcNeil has been cleared to ramp up activities soon after an X-ray showed his fractured right wrist is improving, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
There's no word yet on McNeil's potential availability for later in the postseason if the Mets keep advancing, but it seems as though the team is at least leaving the door open. McNeil is less than four weeks into a projected 4-to-6 week timetable.
-
Eddy Alvarez NYM 2B
Mets' Eddy Alvarez: Removed from 40-man roster
3d agoThe Mets designated Alvarez for assignment Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Max Kranick, who made the National League Wild Card Series roster as a long reliever. Alvarez didn't join the Mets' organization until September and, thus, was ineligible for their postseason roster.
-
Ozzie Albies ATL 2B
Braves' Ozzie Albies: Drives in five in Monday's matinee
3d agoAlbies went 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, a home run and five RBI in an 8-7 loss to the Mets during the first game of Monday's doubleheader.
With Atlanta needing at least one win in the twin bill to make the playoffs, Albies did everything he could in the matinee to book his team's postseason tickets. The second baseman opened the scoring with a two-run homer off Tylor Megill in the third inning, then put his squad back on top in the eighth with a bases-loaded double, only to watch the bullpen implode further in the top of the ninth. Albies also contributed in a 3-0 win in the nightcap, going 1-for-4 with a run scored. The 27-year-old heads into the NL Wild Card Round having gone just 7-for-38 (.184) in nine games since making his late-season return from a wrist injury, but with two homers, five runs scored and seven RBI.
-
Colt Keith DET 2B
Tigers' Colt Keith: Sitting versus lefty
3d agoKeith is not in the lineup Tuesday for Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Astros.
It's left-hander Framber Valdez on the mound for the Astros, so the lefty-hitting Keith will begin this one on the bench. Andy Ibanez is playing second base and batting cleanup for the Tigers.
-
Brett Baty NYM 3B
Mets' Brett Baty: Joins taxi squad
3d agoBaty is with the Mets in Milwaukee as part of their taxi squad, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Jesse Winker is dealing with a back issue, which has his status for the National League Wild Card series in question. If Winker is unable to go, it sounds like Baty would be the choice to replace him on the roster. Baty put up a .633 OPS in 50 games during the regular season with the Mets but had a .925 OPS in his final 14 contests at Triple-A Syracuse.
-
Mark Vientos NYM 3B
Mets' Mark Vientos: Not in lineup for second game
3d agoVientos is absent from the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Atlanta, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Vientos will get a breather for the second game after the Mets wrapped up a playoff spot with their win in the first contest. Jose Iglesias will shift over to third base while Eddy Alvarez gets a start at second base.
-
Bryan Ramos CHW 3B
White Sox's Bryan Ramos: Shows power to close season
4d agoRamos went 2-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored Sunday against the Tigers.
Ramos started 14 games in September after being recalled Sept. 4. He showed some decent pop by collecting three homers and five total extra-base hits in 59 plate appearances. He hit just .208, but a 23.7 percent strikeout rate isn't all that concerning. Ramos should be in position to compete for the starting third base job in 2025.
-
Darell Hernaiz OAK 3B
Athletics' Darell Hernaiz: Contributes as in-game replacement
4d agoHernaiz entered Sunday's loss to the Mariners as a defensive replacement at third base in the seventh inning and went 1-for-1 with a two-run double.
Hernaiz made things interesting during his only plate appearance, doubling home Seth Brown and Zack Gelof in the ninth inning to slice a four-run deficit in half. The young infielder played only 48 games at the major-league level during his rookie 2024 campaign, with a near two-month stay on the injured list due to an ankle issue playing a large part. Hernaiz finished with just a .192 average and .503 OPS across 135 plate appearances; however, the combination of his adequate 8.1 percent walk rate and 20.0 percent strikeout rate in his first brush with big-league arms and his career .294/.358/.424 minor-league slash line imply he could certainly take a notable step forward if he remains healthy in 2025.
-
Eugenio Suarez ARI 3B
Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez: Goes yard in regular-season finale
4d agoSuarez went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI single and an additional run scored during Sunday's 11-2 win over San Diego.
Suarez capped off the regular season with an excellent performance, lifting a solo homer -- just his second round tripper since hitting two Sept. 11 -- off Matt Waldron in the seventh inning for his 30th long ball of the year, the fifth time in his career that he's reached that mark. In 2024, Suarez is slashing .256/.319/.469 with 101 RBI and 90 runs.
-
Gio Urshela ATL 3B
Braves' Gio Urshela: Launches homer
4d agoUrshela went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 4-2 loss to Kansas City.
Urshela provided Atlanta's lone extra-base hit Sunday, tagging Alec Marsh for a solo homer in the third inning. In 34 games with Atlanta, Urshela has slashed .264/.281/.432 with four home runs, 14 RBI and nine runs across 128 plate appearances.
-
Francisco Lindor NYM SS
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Plays hero to clinch playoff spot
3d agoLindor went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in an 8-7 win over Atlanta during the first game of Monday's doubleheader.
The matinee features a wild finish that saw 12 of the game's 15 runs cross the plate over the final two innings, but it was Lindor's two-run blast in the top of the ninth off Pierce Johnson that sealed the victory for the Mets and booked their ticket to the playoffs. Lindor was rested for the nightcap, and he wraps up an impressive regular season with a .273/.344/.500 slash line, 33 homers, 29 steals, 91 RBI and 107 runs over 152 contests.
-
Francisco Lindor NYM SS
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Sitting second game after clinch
3d agoLindor is not in the lineup for the second game of Monday's doubleheader in Atlanta, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
Lindor provided a go-ahead, two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning of the Mets' win in the first game. With a berth in the postseason in hand, Lindor will get some rest for his ailing back in the second contest. Luisangel Acuna is at shortstop and batting leadoff.
-
J.P. Crawford SEA SS
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Wraps season with multi-hit effort
4d agoCrawford went 2-for-3 with a run in a win over the Athletics on Sunday.
Crawford posted one of two multi-hit efforts for the Mariners in the regular-season finale, ending what has been a tough campaign for him on a good note. The pair of knocks coaxed Crawford's batting average back over the Mendoza Line to .202, but all three components of his final batting line -- he also generated a .304 OBP and .321 slugging percentage -- qualified as career lows. The 29-year-old shortstop has been a fixture in Seattle since 2019 and is signed through the 2026 campaign, but he'll presumably need a notable uptick in production to hold on to his starting spot for another full season.
-
Francisco Lindor NYM SS
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Blasts 32nd homer
4d agoLindor went 2-for-4 Sunday with a home run, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored against the Brewers.
Lindor reached base three times, with his solo shot in the sixth representing the fifth and final run for the Mets. Lindor has been hot during the closing stretch of the season despite a recent eight-game absence due to a back injury. The Mets need to win at least one game in Monday's duobleheader against Atlanta to make the postseason, but if they take the matinee, Lindor could get rested for the nightcap.
-
Elly De La Cruz CIN SS
Reds' Elly De La Cruz: Two thefts in 2024 finale
4d agoDe La Cruz went 1-for-5 with a two-RBI triple and two stolen bases during Sunday's 3-0 win over the Cubs in 10 innings.
De La Cruz swiped second base after reaching on fielder's choices in the first and eighth innings, pushing his season steals total to 67 -- eight more than anybody else in the majors. De La Cruz also notched his 10th triple of the campaign, plating Blake Dunn and Jonathan India in the 10th inning to give the Reds the lead. De La Cruz finishes 2024 with a .259/.340/.470 slash line.
-
Isiah Kiner-Falefa PIT SS
Pirates' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Sitting Sunday
5d agoKiner-Falefa is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Yankees.
Jared Triolo will start at third base and bat sixth in Pittsburgh's regular-season finale. As a member of the Pirates this season, Kiner-Falefa slashed .240/.265/.322 with eight stolen bases, one home run and 10 RBI across 215 plate appearances.
-
Garrett Mitchell MIL CF
-
Colton Cowser BAL LF
Orioles' Colton Cowser: Suffers hand fracture
1d agoCowser was diagnosed with a left hand fracture after Wednesday's loss to the Royals, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
The Orioles' loss Wednesday eliminated them from the postseason, so Cowser will have plenty of time to recover before the start of spring training in February. The 24-year-old slashed .242/.321/.447 with 24 homers and 69 RBI across 153 games in the regular season and figures to remain in Baltimore's outfield plans for 2025.
-
Colton Cowser BAL LF
Orioles' Colton Cowser: Exits with hand injury
1d agoCowser was removed from Wednesday's game against the Royals due to pain in his left hand, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.
Cowser suffered the injury while striking out swinging at a pitch that hit him in the hand during the fifth inning. He was able to take the field once the O's went on defense to begin the sixth, but he was eventually replaced in left field by Heston Kjerstad to start the seventh. Cowser's willingness to remain in the game immediately after the injury is a positive sign, though his status for a potential Game 3 of the wild-card round is unclear.
-
Garrett Mitchell MIL CF
Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Not starting Game 2
1d agoMitchell isn't in the lineup Wednesday for Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Mets.
Mitchell will ride the pine to begin Game 2 as the Mets start left-hander Sean Manaea. Blake Perkins will get the nod in center field and bat second for Milwaukee.
-
Jesse Winker NYM RF
Mets' Jesse Winker: Absent from Game 2 lineup
2d agoWinker is not in the lineup Wednesday for Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series in Milwaukee, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Winker contributed a two-run triple out of the designated hitter spot for the Mets in Game 1, but he will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench against Brewers righty Frankie Montas. J.D. Martinez will be the DH and bat sixth.
-
Tommy Pham KC LF
Royals' Tommy Pham: Not in lineup for Game 2
2d agoPham is absent from the lineup Wednesday for Game 2 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Orioles.
Pham got the call in right field for the Royals in Game 1 but went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. For Game 2, the club will roll with Hunter Renfroe as its right fielder and No. 7 hitter against Zach Eflin.
-

-
Yoshinobu Yamamoto LAD SP
Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto: Taking mound for Game 2
14h agoYamamoto will start Sunday in Game 2 of the NLDS against San Diego, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Yamamoto allowed eight earned runs over six innings across his two appearances against the Padres during the regular season, though it's been nearly six months since he last faced the division rival. More recently, the 26-year-old righty turned in a 3.38 ERA and 21:5 K:BB over 16 frames following his return from the injured list Sept. 10.
-
Yu Darvish SD SP
Padres' Yu Darvish: Slated for NLDS Game 2 start
14h agoDarvish will start Sunday in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Michael King would be on regular rest Sunday following a dominant 12-strikeout outing in the wild-card series versus Atlanta, but the Padres will hold him back, presumably for Game 3. Darvish will be opposed by Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
-
Dylan Cease SD SP
Padres' Dylan Cease: Getting NLDS Game 1 start
14h agoCease will start Saturday in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Dodgers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
After not being needed in the two-game sweep of Atlanta in the wild-card round, Cease was an easy call to take the ball in the NLDS opener. The righty collected a 3.47 ERA and 224:65 K:BB across 189.1 innings covering 33 starts this season for the Padres. Cease will be opposed by Jack Flaherty.
-
Grayson Rodriguez BAL SP
Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez: Will be ready for spring training
15h agoOrioles general manager Mike Elias said Thursday that he expects Rodriguez (lat) to more or less by without restrictions at the beginning of spring training, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Rodriguez sustained a right lat strain in early August and was eventually shut down in late September after it became apparent he wasn't going to make it back for the regular or postseason. He should be able to have a relatively normal throwing program during the offseason, though health concerns could linger given how much time he missed in 2024.
-
Felix Bautista BAL RP
Orioles' Felix Bautista: Expected to be full go in spring
16h agoOrioles general manager Mike Elias said Thursday that he expects Bautista (elbow) to more or less be without restrictions at the start of spring training, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Bautista started throwing off the mound in August and will be 16 months removed from Tommy John surgery by February. As long as he looks good during Grapefruit League play, he should regain the closer role for Baltimore heading into 2025. Bautista posted a 1.48 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 110:26 K:BB over 61 innings while notching 33 saves in 2023.
-
Spencer Turnbull PHI RP
Phillies' Spencer Turnbull: Unlikely to be on NLDS roster
2d agoPhillies manager Rob Thomson indicated Wednesday that Turnbull (lat) is unlikely to be on the NLDS roster, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Thomson said Turnbull was "erratic" during an intrasquad game Wednesday, adding that he believes the righty needs to fine-tune things. Turnbull has been sidelined since late June with a right lat strain and it would appear he'll remain out at least through the first round of the postseason.
-
Jeff Hoffman PHI RP
Phillies' Jeff Hoffman: Misses workout with stiff neck
2d agoPhillies manager Rob Thomson said Hoffman didn't pitch in a simulated game Wednesday due to a stiff neck, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Thomson said holding Hoffman back was precautionary, adding that he expects the reliever to be "fine" for Game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday. Hoffman will be a high-leverage reliever for the Phillies this postseason following a regular season which saw him collect a 2.17 ERA and 89:16 K:BB over 66.1 innings.
-
Spencer Turnbull PHI RP
Phillies' Spencer Turnbull: Pitching in intrasquad game
2d agoTurnbull (lat) will pitch in an intrasquad game Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park, MLB.com reports.
Turnbull made a rehab start with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Sept. 22 and threw 52 pitches in a live batting practice session Sept. 27. If he gets through Wednesday's session without any issues, Turnbull could be included on the Phillies' NLDS roster as a long reliever. He's been sidelined since late June with a right lat strain.
-
Tyler Holton DET RP
Tigers' Tyler Holton: Opening Game 2
2d agoHolton will open Game 2 of the Tigers' wild-card series versus Houston on Wednesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
After turning in a 2.19 ERA and 0.78 WHIP through 94.1 innings in the regular season, Holton will now be rewarded with an opener assignment in the playoffs as the Tigers look to advance to the ALDS. He'll likely only remain in the game for an inning or two before turning things over to Reese Olson, though Holton has reached three frames in four of his 66 appearances.
-
Jake Cousins NYY RP
Yankees' Jake Cousins: Expected to be ready for ALDS
3d agoYankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Cousins (pectoral) is on track to be ready for the ALDS, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Cousins will throw another bullpen session Wednesday, which should be the last hurdle he needs to clear before being included on the ALDS roster. The right-handed reliever hasn't pitched in a game in nearly two weeks because of a right pectoral strain.
-
J.D. Martinez NYM DH
Mets' J.D. Martinez: Starting at DH
2d agoMartinez will start at designated hitter and bat sixth Wednesday in Game 2 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Brewers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Martinez yielded to Jesse Winker at designated hitter in Game 1, although he came off the bench to deliver a two-run single. The 37-year-old put up just a .368 OPS in September for the Mets.
-
J.D. Martinez NYM DH
Mets' J.D. Martinez: Absent from Game 1 lineup
3d agoMartinez is not in the lineup Tuesday for Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series against the Brewers, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Martinez saw his playing time cut down the stretch of the regular season as he struggled to a .368 OPS in September. Jesse Winker had similar struggles in the final month but will get a shot at designated hitter in Game 1 versus righty Freddy Peralta.
-
Yordan Alvarez HOU DH
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: In Game 1 lineup
3d agoAlvarez (knee) will start at designated hitter and bat second Tuesday in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Series versus the Tigers, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Alvarez missed the final week of the regular season with a right knee sprain, but he's progressed sufficiently enough to be included on the Astros' wild-card series roster and in their Game 1 lineup. The 27-year-old slashed .308/.392/.567 with 35 home runs in 147 games this season.
-
Yordan Alvarez HOU DH
Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Will hit, run Monday to test knee
4d agoAlvarez (knee) will do some hitting and running Monday at Minute Maid Park to test out his potential availability for the wild-card series, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Astros manager Joe Espada had said Sunday that Alvarez was going to take batting practice Monday, and now he's revealed that the slugger will do some running, too. How he feels during and after the workout will determine whether Alvarez will be part of the team's roster for the first round of the postseason. Alvarez has missed a little over a week of action with a right knee sprain.
-
Alec Burleson STL DH
Cardinals' Alec Burleson: Drives in three in win
