Bucky Irving TB RBBuccaneers' Bucky Irving: Late fumble mars night
3h agoIrving rushed nine times for 44 yards and brought in both targets for 12 yards in the Buccaneers' 36-30 overtime loss to the Falcons on Thursday night. He also returned one kickoff for 39 yards and lost a fumble.
Irving logged one fewer carry than backfield mate Rachaad White, who gained 28 additional rushing yards and also had one more catch on the night. Additionally, Irving had an especially untimely fumble following a seven-yard run with just under three minutes remaining, with Jessie Bates stripping the rookie of the ball as it appeared Tampa Bay could potentially be moving into position to either run out the clock, or at minimum, add three points to a 30-27 lead. Despite the miscue, Irving did have yet another efficient rushing performance, but with White also impressing while averaging over 7.0 yards per carry, it appears to the two will continue in a near-even timeshare during a Week 6 road divisional battle against the Saints on Sunday, Oct. 13.

3h agoWhite rushed 10 times for 72 yards and secured all three targets for minus-6 yards in the Buccaneers' 36-30 overtime loss to the Falcons on Thursday night.
White notably logged one more carry and target apiece than surging rookie backfield mate Bucky Irving, who also had a costly fourth-quarter fumble. White also posted a season-best rushing yardage total by a wide margin, and after averaging a minuscule 2.1 yards per carry over the first three games of the season, the Arizona State product has bounced back to compile 121 rushing yards on 20 carries over the subsequent pair of contests. The third-year back has yet to find the end zone as either runner or receiver, however, a matter he next gets a chance to rectify during a Week 6 road battle against the Saints on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Darnell Mooney ATL WRFalcons' Darnell Mooney: Standout night in OT victory
3h agoMooney brought in nine of 16 targets for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the Falcons' 36-30 overtime win over the Buccaneers on Thursday night.
Mooney led the Falcons in receiving touchdowns and targets on the night while checking in second in catches and receiving yards to Drake London. The speedster found the end zone from 24 and 12 yards out in the second and fourth quarters, respectively, his second and third touchdowns of the season and Atlanta tenure. However, as good as Mooney's night was, it could have been marred by a drop of a very catchable third-down pass just past the midway point of the fourth quarter that was followed by a blocked Younghoe Koo field-goal attempt. Ultimately, the Falcons' victory and Mooney's 17-yard grab on his team's game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter helped ensure the gaffe would be insignificant, and the fifth-year pro appears to have burgeoning chemistry with Kirk Cousins heading into a Week 6 road battle against the Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 13.

4h agoPitts brought in seven of eight targets for 88 yards in the Falcons' 36-30 overtime win over the Buccaneers on Thursday night.
Pitts finished third in receptions and receiving yards on a prolific passing night for the Falcons offense, generating a receiving line that also served as a season-best one across the board. Much like teammate Bijan Robinson, another player with a rich skill set that transcends his position, Pitts' usage has been the subject of much consternation by team fans and fantasy managers alike. Thursday night's numbers was therefore highly encouraging, but whether it will have any long-term carryover is a question that will begin to be answered in a Week 6 road divisional clash with the Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 13.

4h agoGodwin secured five of six targets for 64 yards and committed a fumble recovered by Tampa Bay in the Buccaneers' 36-30 overtime loss to the Falcons on Thursday night.
Godwin co-led the Buccaneers in receptions while setting the pace in receiving yards on the night. However, his target total, which was second on the night to Mike Evans' seven, was Godwin's lowest of the season through five games. Nevertheless, the veteran Penn State product has a critical role in coordinator Liam Coen's offense and next takes aim at a talented Saints secondary in Week 6 road matchup on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Bijan Robinson ATL RBFalcons' Bijan Robinson: Compiles 76 total yards in win
4h agoRobinson rushed 12 times for 61 yards and brought in all three targets for 16 yards in the Falcons' 36-30 overtime win over the Buccaneers on Thursday night.
Robinson was disappointingly limited to his second-lowest carry total of the season, although he at least saw an appreciable uptick from the seven rush attempts he'd logged in Week 4 against the Saints. The second-year back did extend his season-opening streak of games with multiple receptions, but after five games in new coordinator Zac Robinson's offense, many of the same frustrations related to sub-optimal leveraging of Bijan's skill set persist as he awaits his first 20-carry game. The Falcons did take an unusually pass-heavy approach Thursday night -- Kirk Cousins put the ball up 59 times -- so perhaps Robinson will see a larger workload in a highly favorable Week 6 road matchup against the Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 13.

8h agoFreeman (ankle) was able to bat during Thursday's intra-squad scrimmage but not play first base, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
It was a positive sign that Freeman took part in baseball activity, though this cast the first doubt about whether he'd be ready for the NLDS. That's particularly true with Shohei Ohtani locked into the DH spot. Max Muncy was playing first base, with Enrique Hernandez at the hot corner in Freeman's absence.

9h agoFlaherty will start in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Padres on Sunday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
The Dodgers originally planned to start Flaherty in Game 1, but they are instead opting to start Yoshinobu Yamamoto to allow Yamamoto five days rest before potentially pitching in a decisive Game 5. Flaherty had a solid regular season, but he did struggle a bit down the stretch by allowing nine earned runs across his final 14 frames with a 14:9 K:BB.

9h agoYamamoto is starting Game 1 of the NLDS against San Diego on Saturday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Yamamoto was originally slated to start Game 2, but he'll flip spots with Jack Flaherty. If the series goes a full five games, Yamamoto is projected to pitch in the decisive contest. He's pitched well in his return from a triceps injury, allowing two or fewer earned runs in three of four starts.

William Contreras is receiving a turn at designated hitter while Sanchez works behind the plate. Bauers will be a candidate to come off the bench once the Mets turn to a right-handed reliever.

Mitchell came off the bench to deliver a go-ahead, two-run home run in the eighth inning of Game 2 and is a candidate to enter mid-game again Thursday when the Mets turn to a righty reliever. Blake Perkins is in center field and batting second in Game 3.

10h agoWiggins (illness) didn't practice Thursday and has been ruled out of Saturday's preseason opener against the Clippers, head coach Steve Kerr told Sam Gordon of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Wiggins hasn't been able to practice for three days in a row and was spotted wearing a mask while watching his teammates from the sidelines. His next chance to play will come against the Kings on Wednesday, though it's unclear if he'll be able to return to practice by that time.

It's unclear if Williams will miss any regular-season action, but hamstring injuries can often linger. With Kenrich Williams (knee) also out, Ousmane Dieng could receive increased playing time off the bench in Oklahoma City's frontcourt early in the campaign.

11h agoThe Pelicans announced Thursday that Murphy has been diagnosed with a right hamstring strain and will be re-examined in approximately three weeks.
Murphy strained his right hamstring during Wednesday's training camp practice. The 24-year-old forward's status for the beginning of the regular season is now in question. Murphy is expected to compete with Herbert Jones for backup forward minutes when healthy.

Murray is now set to remain in Sacramento for at least the first four seasons of his career. In 2023-24, the 24-year-old forward averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals in 33.6 minutes across 77 regular-season appearances, all of which were starts. Murray is set to start at power forward for the Kings once again this season.

15h agoCoach Darko Rajakovic said Thursday that Mogbo has impressed in training camp as a weak-side help defender, Eric Koreen of The Athletic reports.
Mogbo was selected with the No. 31 overall pick by the Raptors in the 2024 NBA Draft. While the rookie forward isn't slated to receive significant playing time, his defensive prowess could allow him the ability to see the floor earlier than expected.

15h agoBoucher (knee) has done a lot of work this offseason to ensure his mind is in the right place to start the 2024-25 campaign, Michael Grange of sportsnet.ca reports.
Boucher was reportedly upset with his role last season, averaging just 6.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in 14.1 minutes across 50 appearances, all of which were coming off the bench. While Boucher isn't necessarily slated for an increased role in 2024-25, it seems as though the 31-year-old big man is more willing to accept a depth role.

2h agoEichel scored a goal on two shots and went minus-3 in Thursday's 3-1 preseason loss to the Avalanche.
Eichel has accumulated four points this preseason, so his offense is already in good shape. The 27-year-old center will continue to be a key part of the Golden Knights' offense in 2024-25 after producing 31 goals and 68 points over 63 regular-season outings a year ago. Eichel could begin the year with Ivan Barbashev and Victor Olofsson on his wings, but Vegas' lack of proven forward depth could lead to many changes during the campaign.

2h agoSamsonov allowed two goals on 26 shots in Thursday's 3-1 preseason loss to the Avalanche. The third goal was an empty-netter.
Samsonov put in a fine effort, but he didn't receive much goal support. The 27-year-old netminder has lost both of his preseason outings despite allowing a modest five goals on 56 shots, which speaks to the defensive strength of Vegas' roster. Samsonov will begin 2024-25 in the backup role, while Adin Hill can be expected to work as the starter.

Malinski's goal was his second tally and third point over three preseason contests. The 26-year-old featured on the top pairing Thursday, though he'll strictly be a third-pairing option to begin the year if he makes the roster. Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette notes that Malinski seems to have surpassed Oliver Kylington in the battle for the last spot on the blue line based on preseason play. In limited NHL action last year, Malinski produced 10 points, 31 shots on net and a plus-3 rating over 23 appearances.

Drouin opened the scoring at 11:44 of the first period on a pass from Nathan MacKinnon. That's a combination that could happen frequently in 2024-25, especially early in the year before Gabriel Landeskog (knee) or Artturi Lehkonen (shoulder) are available. Drouin wasn't a full-time member of the top-line last year, but his success there and on the power play led him to a career year of 56 points in 79 regular-season contests. If Drouin can stay on the top line, he'll provide excellent value for fantasy managers.

3h agoO'Connor scored an empty-net goal, dished an assist, added two PIM and went plus-2 in Thursday's 3-1 preseason win over the Golden Knights.
This was O'Connor's second game of preseason action. The 28-year-old's 2023-24 campaign was abbreviated by hip surgery, but he hasn't been limited since camp opened. The Avalanche signed O'Connor to a six-year extension in September, solidifying his place as an important part of the team's middle six. O'Connor has produced between 24 and 26 points in each of the last three years while also adding some grit and penalty-killing skill.

Annunen had his best outing of the preseason in this road win, quieting a group mostly consisting of Vegas' NHL players. The 24-year-old has allowed seven goals on 74 shots across three preseason appearances. This may have been his last action before Opening Night, though the Avalanche will have one more preseason game at Utah on Saturday.
