Man allegedly armed with knife fatally shot by LAPD officers in downtown Los Angeles

Los Angeles Police Department officers on Wednesday shot a man allegedly armed with a knife in downtown Los Angeles.

An investigation is underway in a Thursday officer-involved shooting that took place Downtown Los Angeles KCAL News

According to police, the shooting happened at around 11:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of E. 7th Street, where officers were dispatched after hearing reports of the armed suspect threatening someone in the area. 

Upon arrival, officers confronted the suspect and at some point opened fire, striking the suspect. 

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

No information on his identity has been released.

Police reported recovering a knife at the scene. 

The exact circumstances leading up to the shooting are still unclear, but no officers or bystanders were injured during the shooting. 

The area is expected to be blocked for several hours between Stanford Street and Central Avenue as the investigation continues.
