Saints RB Kendre Miller on the hot seat

With roster cuts looming, could Miller’s spot be in jeopardy after missing the entirety of training camp due to injury?

New Orleans Saints RB Kendre Miller, who sustained a hamstring injury during the first individual drill on Day 1 of training camp, has yet to return as Wednesday’s practice concludes. Frustration from Saints HC Dennis Allen appears to be becoming more apparent as roster cuts approach (August 27th).

Throughout training camp, Dennis Allen has emphasized how difficult it is to evaluate a player who is not on the field. When asked specifically about Miller, Allen noted that there’s little new information beyond his college tape, making it challenging to envision a roll for him in the offense. Allen later noted that, regardless of Miller’s talent, he is unsure if Miller will be able to learn the new offense in time for the season due to the amount of time he has missed, while previously stating that it’s tough to make the roster from the training room.

Miller’s play style seemed like a perfect fit for the run scheme under new OC Klint Kubiak, but we might not even get to see it. Amidst Miller’s absence, RB’s Jordan Mims and James Robinson have provided a spark in the backfield as the team evaluates who would be the best option for the third running back spot behind Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams.

The clock is ticking for Miller, and with limited updates on his recovery, he could end up being waived as the Saints decide who deserves a spot on the 53-man roster. However, the team has a history of being patient with their draft picks, especially those with the potential of Miller.
