Taylor Swift’s Meaningful Moment

The first win of the night went to Swift and Post Malone for Best Collaboration on “Fortnight.” Before celebrating, she took a moment to remember 9/11 victims in a thoughtful speech.

“Waking up this morning in New York on Sept. 11, I’ve just been thinking about what happened 23 years ago,” she said. “Everyone who lost a loved one and everyone that we lost — that is the most important thing about today. And everything that happens tonight falls behind that.”

Honestly, so unfailingly polite — it has taken me forever to get him to stop calling me ma’am.”

Malone returned the love and praised Swift’s work behind the camera, saying it was “pretty bad*ss” to direct the “Fortnight” music video while also starring in it.

Bookending her evening with a final win for Video of the Year, Swift thanked Travis Kelce for his behind-the-scenes involvement in “Fortnight.”

“When I would finish a take ... I would always just hear someone cheering and, like, ‘Woo!’ from across the studio where we were shooting it,” Swift recalled. “And that one person was my boyfriend, Travis.”

After taking a beat to soak in the crowd’s cheers, Swift continued, “Everything this man touches turns to happiness, and fun, and magic. So I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot. Because I’ll always remember that.”

Viewers were surprised and thrilled to see Swift mention her relationship so plainly on the VMAs stage. One user “never thought [they’d] see the day.”
