The oak, or beech, family (Fagaceae) contains about 1,000 species unevenly distributed across eight genera. The group is mostly limited to the warmer parts of the Northern Hemisphere and comprises a number of important timber and nut trees. The following is a list of some of the major genera and species in the family Fagaceae, arranged alphabetically by common name or genus.
