- Length: A mini is mini, yes, but depending on the exact length, how tall you are, and the type of shoe you’re planning on wearing, keep in mind that there are different points where a mini wedding dress can hit. Exactly how short you want to go comes down to a matter of personal preference and what you feel comfortable in. The location of the wedding is also a consideration when choosing a mini wedding dress length. “If the event is in a traditional church and classic ballroom, the appropriate length will be longer than at a more casual venue,” says Appelt. “Perhaps your mother or mother-in-law’s tolerance for a nontraditional look might also be a consideration."
- Embellishments: Opting for mini wedding dresses with fun embellishments—lace, bows, floral appliqués, or feathers—can be a nice way to ensure that the overall effect comes across as more special than an everyday white dress. That being said, if your style is simpler and more minimal, feel free to choose a dress that is more streamlined.
- Sleeve and Neckline: Strapless, long-sleeve, one-shoulder, deep V….you name it, there are strapless dresses with all kinds of sleeves and necklines. Just as you would with a longer gown, think about the style you like and ultimately what feels the most like you. After all, that’s the end result you want from any wedding dress, no matter whether it’s long or short.
