The 12-carat, light-pink diamond bauble is just as iconic as the actress herself.

Though primarily known for her roles as Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl and Lily Bloom in the hotly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us, Blake Lively has another claim to fame many people adore. When the star got engaged and married to fellow actor Ryan Reynolds in 2012, she did so with an enormous blush-colored diamond on her hand—a ring that still sets trends (and headlines!) today. Featuring a 12-carat, oval-cut solitaire stone on a diamond band, designed by celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz, Lively's bauble is just as iconic as the actress herself. “[Her ring] still gets referenced for its size, shape, and color,” shares Sharon Schatner, a GIA diamond graduate at Filigree Jewelers.

Lively is also fully aware of the grandeur of her sparkler (which is rumored to have cost $2 million) and has referred to it as one of her most beloved possessions. “My most treasured possession is my engagement ring by my dear friend Lorraine Schwartz, because of the love and meaning it symbolizes,” she told British Vogue in 2015, adding that Reynolds and Schwartz designed it together with no input from her. “Ryan chose Lorraine Schwartz to help him find a flawless, light pink oval diamond,” a spokesperson for the jeweler told People at the time. “They worked together to design a custom setting in rose gold and pavé diamonds with a nod to deco.” Schwartz was also behind Blake's matching rose gold wedding band.

After Reynolds slipped the ring on Lively’s finger over a decade ago, Schatner says she began noticing “more requests for larger diamonds” from couples. “One carat was no longer the standard; we started getting more requests for two to four-carat diamonds.” The actress also helped propel the oval-cut engagement ring trend: “Blake Lively was the first celebrity we saw wear an oval diamond engagement ring and they have been popular ever since,” Schatner explains. “In 2015, only two percent of all diamond engagement rings were ovals, and by 2023 it was 22 percent! Clients say that an oval-shaped diamond feels more unique than a round, but still classic, and they find the elongated shape flattering."

The shape of her diamond isn't the only element of her engagement ring individuals love, however: The pink hue of her center stone, which Schatner says is “extremely rare and costly,” is another detail many people have tried to emulate (morganite, tourmaline, and pink sapphires give off a similar look). "The pink color of Blake’s diamond was enhanced by the rose gold setting made her ring a standout,” Schatner adds. “A soft pink like Blake’s diamond can feel almost neutral while a bright pink is a fun option for someone wanting a bolder choice.”
