Tony Sharp has more than 25 years of leadership experience in information technology (IT) across various aspects of engineering and software development. He currently leads Booz Allen’s security architecture and engineering business, delivering capabilities that help commercial clients reduce operational and business risk.
Tony’s areas of expertise include information security, network and communications systems, software development and quality assurance, infrastructure engineering, and collaboration platforms.
Before joining Booz Allen, Tony was an IT leader at FedEx for more than 20 years.
He holds an M.B.A. and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Memphis.
What’s a lesson you learned from your family growing up, and how is it still relevant to you today? My father’s selfless acts helped shape how I approach responsibilities. He pushed through challenging health conditions to meet the needs of others. He represented a wonderful model of sacrifice of self for the good of others. As a result, what drives me most is not my own personal gain, but rather the good for those to whom I have been entrusted.
What are the most pressing needs in cybersecurity? We need talent and capabilities commensurate to the evolving scale and complexity of cyber threats—this is further exacerbated by the expanding pace of digital connectedness. The attack surface dimensions being projected over the next 5 years is astonishing, especially as edge computing with 5G and Internet of Things types of applications begin to proliferate.
How does your work change the world? Our mission is to solve the most complex security challenges of organizations, while enabling them to defend against operational impact of cyber attacks. We do this with solutions and capabilities that defend digital entities across their full lifecycle.
