Puerto Rico is the warmest and sunniest place in Canary Islands. Even in december it feels like summer (if you are from cold scandinavia). We have been several years in Play del Inges and Maspalomas, but Puerto Rico is the best. Just remember that just after the full moon weather can be poor for some days. This years the full moon was in 25th of december and just after that came sirocco/ sandstorm for couple of days. Go to the farmers market and buy local vegetables. Carrots are incredible sweet ! Hotels tell where the farmers market are each day. In Puerto Rico downtown, in Arguineguin (big one !) , in Mogan and so on. And every weekday there is always one in San Fernando. Market in Teror is also worth visiting. Lots of steps in Puerto Rico, but that is what a stunning view must cost. Rent a car or use taxi. The best car rental was Inauto +0034 928 56 01 48, they also have navigators. Inauto is really cheaper and the cars new and the staff very friendly and helpful. We rented an automatic car for 10 days, was 350 € only and it was Christmas-time !
I really have travelled and lived in many countries on the planet, but Fuerteventura is special. The view from the pale yellow Sandy Beach overlooking the unofficial 8th Canary Island, Isla de Lobos, across at Lanzarote, with the sparkling clear blue/green sea on Christmas Morning with nobody around, is a view that no picture video or words can describe. Fuerteventura is spectacular because you can actually see how our planet evolved from Volcano’s to what we live on today. Every child should be brought here because on Fuerteventura you get everything. The examples of how the planet was formed in a geographical sense and also the history of mankind has evolved. The old Spanish Colonial Villages, the Historic Capitol of all the Canary Islands is Betancuria here just 30 km south of Corralejco, beautifully preserved, its quaint colonial streets, the palm trees with the surrounding volcano’s explains Geography and History in One or Two Weeks.
Great choice of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes however nightlife is more low key compared to other Canary Islands so don't be expecting much nightclubbing! I would recommend Don Rafaelo restaurant as there was plenty of choice and staff were excellent. The Blarney Stone bar in the old town had a great lively atmosphere with live music most nights, the craic was mighty. Taxis are very cheap also.
Santa Cruz is a bustling, European style city, that feels very safe and family friendly (it's one of the few cities i've visited with no seedy/dodgy characters hanging around, even around the bus station). The spread of the city is compact so its great to explore on foot as you can cover a lot easily. Its a great town for shopping - there is quite a big shopping zone in and around the streets backing up from the port as well as some department stores down by the bus station. There are several good museums and galleries. The district of La Noria down in the old part of town has plenty of bars and tapas places. Other places worth a mention are Garcia Sanabria park, the auditorium on the seafront, the palmetum. If you are looking for wild nightlife this is probably not the place for you, but the tram takes you up to the old city of La Laguna - which is supposed to have a buzzier nightlife - in about 30 minutes. If you want the beach, the golden sandy Teresitas beach is around 20 mins bus ride away. If you want to see an aspect of the Canary islands other than the tourist resorts, Santa Cruz is well worth a visit.
Good for a beach holiday. However, entire P.d.I. and Maspalomas area was probably developed earlier and looks a little bit older compared to similar Adeje/Playa de las Americas region on neighbouring Teneriffe island. For me this Teneriffe area remains my favourite spot when opting for Canary islands. It has more faciltities (Siam water park, Loro Park, etc.). Playa de Ingles / Maspalomas has less in that regard.
Beautiful town - home of my ancestors! Biggest challenge is siesta (1:30 - 4:30 PM) when just about everything closes and everyone disappears ... this is the best time of day for tourists to see and do things, but they cannot because everything is closed. This is not a problem with Santa Brigida, but all of the Canary Islands we visited. It's their culture, but it is in conflict with a tourist who wants to see and do. For tourists who want to go to the beach, it is no problem, but when visiting the towns, it is.
We have been visiting el cotillo for many years. It is our favourite spot in the Canary Islands. Unspoiled, great laid back ambience, stunning beaches, and good resteraunt s. Stress free winter holiday.
I've been to all Canary Islands and was here many years ago and can honestly say it's the worst island of the lot! It's very dirty and run down, so many places closed down or abandoned. Unless you want to stay out late and drink or do a few water sports there is little or nothing to do! A lot of apartments are in need of renovations even a lick of paint! This whole island seems to be in need of renovation as all the other islands were done up in later years and this one hasn't! I cut my holiday here short cos I found it so bad and I definitely won't be back!
There are many great museums in Santa Cruz, the Museum of Natural Sciences is a must for families, with a ton of information about flora, fauna, and historical facts of the Canary Islands. The transportation around the city is fantastic and there are options for an unlimited day pass or a Bono for a specific number of rides. A day trip to the beautiful beaches in San Andrés (about 15 minutes north by bus) is also a good adventure.
The hotel is in a wonderful location in this historical city. The staff were incredibly friendly. Everything was clean and lent itself to the theme of the town… Historical. The value for what we spent on the room was incredible. It's the best hotel we've stayed in so far in the Canary Islands. we do not do resorts. We do places like this. We've stayed in seven other places so far on this trip. This was the best! And don't miss the view from the rooftop terrace… Incredible!
Tacoronte
Spacious and stunning apartments located in a very quiet area, offering a peaceful and distraction-free environment. I was particularly impressed by the way the moonlight illuminates the bedroom through the window above the bed - it created a magical atmosphere! Communication with the host was excellent. The pool is indeed quite cold, more suited for a quick cool-off than regular swimming, but that's pretty standard for the Canary Islands overall. Highly recommended!
Puerto del Rosario
The Hotel has the quiet rural charm of the traditional Canary Islands. The rooms were very large with rustic furnishings in keeping with the buildings. The gardens were well kept with great views of the surrounding countryside. Breakfast was very good with fresh rolls, meats, fruit, cereals and yoghurts. We had a large family celebration in the evening for 24 people and the restaurant food was absolutely fabulous. We will definitely be returning.
Lajares
Cozy small apartments with everything you need (washing machine, dishwasher, coffee capsule machine, iron). The house is surrounded by two small courtyards with plants, and there is also a roof terrace (the stars in the Canary Islands are simply breathtaking). There is an outdoor swimming pool on site, as well as sports facilities and a tennis court (keys to the court are included). Self check-in was also a definite plus for us.
One of the best hotel we have ever visited on Canary Islands. If you like quiet place, small hotels with ocean sound, swimming pool on the roof, quiet restaurants without thousands of tourists, this is the right place where to stay. To beach it is minute by walk, water is warm (if you compare to other canary beaches), personal is friendly, rooms clean, beds big enough. if we come back to La Gomera, we will defenetly stay here
Santa Cruz de la Palma
Apartment was absolutely perfect, modern, clean, comfortable, well equiped, super location. As far as I can remember, the best apartment on Canary Islands so far (and I visited 4 of them). Nothing comes to my mind regarding what could be improved. I must say that the host was kind a gave us helpful instrictions a regurally asked us, if everything is ok. Definitely recommend, you can not choose better apartment on La Palma!
Los Llanos de Aridane
I stayed in 3 different hostels while traveling to different Canary Islands and wow this was my favorite by far! I felt welcomed from the moment I check in to check out. It was clean and I really liked that the bathroom was more private. Everyone who stayed in the hostel and the volunteers were so friendly and respectful. Such a great feeling of community, which made my first solo traveling experience amazing.
We went on a two week honeymoon in the Canary Islands and this was our absolutely favourite place - even better than the luxury hotels that cost more than double! It was so charming and beautiful, absolutely wonderful breakfast and the host was incredibly kind and helpful. Super comfy beds, lovely high ceilings, impeccably clean. And an incredible old library!! We couldn’t recommend Casa de Naranjos more.
Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria
The apartment was fantastic. Small but perfectly formed, with a fantastic terrace to sit out on looking at the most amazing view down across the bay. Magical. The view from the Terrace is amazing! Sunsets - oh my goodness! Puerto Rico is a lovely town - our favourite of the towns we've visited in the Canary Islands so far. Great restaurants with fabulous staff and we had a really great holiday.
Our 5 day vacation was wonderful! Employees are very very very friendly and helpful, always with a smile on their face, ready to help and chat. Food - honestly, we have been living in the Canary Islands for 8 months now and we have never eaten better food anywhere. Clean and tidy rooms every day. The hotel and surroundings are also wonderful. We can't wait to come and rest in this oasis again :)
What a beautiful hotel! The drive was incredible with an amazing view! The room was spacious, clean with a great view from the balcony. The swimming pools were huge and had some good bars and restaurants near by. The food was delicious and the staff were professional and incredibly helpful! Would highly recommend this hotel and La Palma is my currently my favourite of the Canary Islands!
Los Cristianos
The host was great and very accommodating with a very early check in. Big terrace on the roof with an amazing view. Very well equipped spacious apartment with modern amenities. The apartment is very quiet because it’s located on a side street off the Main road. Had a great trip traveling the Canary islands with my wife. Highlight: Automatic coffee Machine with cold AC like in America.
After years of traveling around the Canary Islands, I have to say this town is the nicest spot I’ve found. The apartment was a wonderful surprise—spacious, full of light, and has everything you’d need for a short or long stay. It’s beautifully decorated, and the terrace is massive! Even though it’s right in the heart of town, it’s surprisingly quiet at night—you won’t hear a thing.
Playa del Ingles
Sara in the Bar was so lovely and helpful she is an amazing asset to the Cordial Biarritz. As a person who has restricted mobility these Bungalows were such a pleasure everything in the complex was so close. I would most definitely look forward to staying there again. Also the size of the 2 bed apartment was amazing easily the biggest I've ever found in the canary Islands.
For price bast you can get in area, even no car free bus to Puerto de la Cruz. Hotel its old but nothing strange at canary islands, but cleaning and fresh towels every day. Breakfasts good something different for everyone. Nice view on ocean 👌 Peace and quiet good restaurants step away, but not area for party animals.
The staff were very very friendly and gave us a local perspective of our surroundings. Irene took care of us when we had to check out early and brought much needed refreshments the night before check out. The hotel is beautiful and hosts a great restaurant, it’s the perfect start to any holiday in the Canary Islands.
Playa del Ingles
We stayed here for the second time in a short time, because the apartment is simply amazing and the communication with the owner is always perfect. On the next trip to the Canary Islands, we will hope that the apartment will be available and we will be lucky to spend our vacation in this place again.
Everything, the host was amazing as were all of the staff. The hotel itself is old, beautfully restored, spacious and comfortable. Our host was friendly and knowledgable about the building, locally area and the canary islands in general. Make sure to order the breakfast it was out of this world
Maspalomas
Really nice apartment in good location of top resort in Canary Islands with kind of guaranteed weather. Rather small, but well designed and though through, including useful add-ons like extension cord, electric splitter, etc. Friendly and helpful host with instant contact.
Comfort hotel which has a wonderful garden with different kinds of plants. Free parking has enough space for all guests. Good breakfast and delicious dinner which included wine and coffee for free (fist time in all 4 star hotels we stayed on Canary islands).
