FAQs about hotels in Sacramento

Still Glimmering Like Gold

Sacramento maintains a glimmer of the Gold Rush and, if there weren’t cars on the cobbled streets, when wandering Old Sacramento you almost feel like you’re back in those days. Like in classic Westerns, horses pull covered wagons past a wooden boardwalk linking covered shopfronts.

The blossoming Californian capital attracted more than one kind of pioneer though. The Big Four entrepeneurs devised the Central Pacific Railroad, as detailed in the State Railroad Museum. The Eagle Theatre was the state’s first, on a considerably smaller scale than the modern-day arts venues showcasing everything from opera to ballet.

A paddle steamer is moored on the nearby Sacramento River, and the American River Parkway lines the city’s other river, opposite the first settlement site. The founder created Sutter’s Fort, and the State Indian Museum documents the native people that lived there long before.

Despite such mass immigration, Sacramento is surprisingly well integrated, but with that glorious Californian sun, it’s easy to see why the locals are so laidback. Palm trees shade streets including Capitol Mall, connecting the State Capitol to Tower Bridge. The nearby Crocker Art Museum is the oldest museum in the western US, while historic figures are remembered in the California Hall of Fame.

Booking.com’s accommodation options include apartments near the convention centre, cheap motels and Sacramento Airport hotels.

Sacramento is a beautiful city BUT it has been run down by the local policies and government to the ground. It's extremely unsafe and dirty now. I did not see any police cars at any time of the day; the drivers drive unsafely, nobody is there to control and to protect you! I had to cancel a couple of my booking reservations in downtown Sacramento because it was too dangerous to get out of a car in front of some hotels and to pump gas at the stations right next to I-5! I was shocked to see so much dirt, crime, crazy people roaming on the streets looking for trouble, tents, and bodies laying on the streets where you don't know if they are dead or alive. Horrible!. I would NEVER come to Sacramento again UNTIL they turn the city around.

I think its in a great location. a few hours from Tahoe, yosemite and san Fran. I think the downtown old sacremento was nice. I took in a Kings game which was fun. Some homeless in the downtown area so that was a bit rough but overall I enjoyed.

For a state capitol, I expected more from Sacramento.

For a state capitol, I expected more from Sacramento. The main highlights are the State Capitol Park and Building itself, and the Railway Museum. The DOCO precinct has a good range of food, notably my favourite American fast food, Panda Express. You're also not far from Lake Tahoe, which is one of the reasons I was in Sacramento for 3 nights. Negatives are it was a bit grubby in the main downtown area, the Old Town is underwhelming, and the place felt deserted. Even with government just out of session, I was surprised at almost the complete lack of people around. An interesting place and definitely worth a visit on a California adventure.

Stay here if you in a pinch.

Stay here if you in a pinch. The staff is not friendly and some of the people who stay there have vouchers so they not the best crowd. There is an IHOP directly across the street to get some food and you are close to the freeway. They don't always have wash cloths in the rooms. I bring my own.

Surprisingly many interesting places to visit.

Surprisingly many interesting places to visit. Old town is pretty neat - very authentic 1800'sbuildings and a fun place to wander around if you can find a parking spot. There is a huge public parking facility at one end of old town however. Lots of shops, bars, clubs,, restaurants. Had some excellent food and seems there are many good restaurants. The railroad museum is another interesting attraction. There are others we would have visited but were time constrained.

Sacramento is a very entertaining and relaxing city to visit. There’s so many things you can do in Sacramento, from visiting all the old buildings and old town Sacramento to catching a game at the Golden 1 basketball arena or 1 of the many concerts the Golden 1 hosts. The atmosphere is amazing and the diversity is great. There’s plenty of options to choose from when you want to eat, I recommend Sampino’s for lunch down on 16th and F st., Frank Fats for a drink or a delicious dinner. If you like Chinese food there’s a delicious place to get some on South land Park dr. and Florin rd. behind the Bel Air shopping center. If you want a steak I recommend Morton’s on Capitol ave. These are just a few of countless things and places you can do to enjoy yourself at in Sacramento.

We love ❤️ the place. It's really exceptional. Private entrace, CCTV, and secured place. The owner always regularly checked if we needed anything. He picked up us in the downtown on our arrival in Sacramento. We never expected a very warmth welcome from the owner. We will include this place as one of the great places to stay in Sacramento. To the owner Thank you so much.

Really nice hotel. Friendly staff. Very clean and tastefully decorated rooms. Really comfortable beds. Very close to the old town and waterfront which was very cool. Valet parking was great (although not cheap, as you'd expect). Bathroom was big and clean. Great shower, with nice shower gel and shampoo provided.
