Known for beautifully undulating coastline attracting a wealth of wildlife, laid-back Monterey is on a small peninsula. Though now more famous for Monterey Jack cheese, it was once an important sardine fishing town. Some former canning factories now house galleries and shops on a street renamed Cannery Row after a novel by John Steinbeck. A museum and his former home in nearby Salinas can be visited.
The fantastic Monterey Bay Aquarium houses a fascinating range of local sealife, which is so prevalent here that you can often see seals basking on craggy beaches, or sea lions roaring away under piers in Fisherman’s Wharf. Whalewatching tours also depart from here.
South is the Monterey State Historic Park, site of historic buildings including Custom House and the Old Whaling Station with a path made from whalebone. To the east are a couple of Monterey hotels on the beach on Booking.com, and there are also several Monterey hotels with indoor pools.
Right by Monterey Peninsula Airport is one of the city’s 7 golf courses, and there are 3 golf courses near the Laguna Seca Raceway.
Whether you’re here for the Monterey Jazz Festival, or for driving the Big Sur Pacific coast road to the south, if you’re staying with kids, don’t forget to check out the Dennis the Menace Park.
Have to see the sea lions in the harbor - what a show!
Have to see the sea lions in the harbor - what a show! Had a fun paddle in Elkhorn Slough, many sea otters and harbor seals, plus thousands of sea birds. Explored tide pools at Asilomar beach, and walked shore at Moss Landing. Best fish tacos ever at Sea Harvest, Moss Landing.

Monterey was great.
Monterey was great. The people are relatively friendly and the Pacific coast is beautiful. The prices for food and gas are obscene. I can't think of a stronger word to describe them since they're double. We were visiting family in the area, but I would not choose to visit based on the cost alone. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is definitely worth a visit.

I love Monterey.
I love Monterey. The people are friendly and I like cool weather so it's the perfect place to visit. If the weather is too cool, you can always go to Carmel Valley where it's warmer, and only 10 minutes away.

Great wildlife - whales, seals and birds.
Great wildlife - whales, seals and birds. Outdoor recreation made easy by the well maintained coastal trail which extends for miles and miles. Restaurants and cafes are surprisingly high quality for such a tourist destination!

Monterey has a lot to offer visitors.
Monterey has a lot to offer visitors. Food at all levels, plenty of sights to see and activities to do, and drives around the area are very nice. Hotels there need a lot of updating and general maintenance though. Monterey gets so many tourists, I suspect all year round, and yet their hotels are just not up to par with other tourists destinations. It's really disappointing because their rates reflect what you would expect from a very very nice hotel but in actuality, they very outdated, services are lacking, and generally a big disappointment to the overall experience of being in such a beautiful part of California.

The room is big, clean and has a microwave, and fridge.. good if they have a kettle so that we can boil water though u can get hot water from receptionist. They do have a small coffee machine in the room. It's just outside the main Monterey town area so it's still very convenient to go about . It's only 1hr drive from hotel to Pfieffer beach . 30mins drive to Bixby bridge. Parking free in the hotel. Thank you to the team who made my chk in seamless as well as keeping our rooms super clean.
Superb location at the heart of Cannery Row with a position on the waterfront. 5 mins walk from the Aquarium and in the heart of Monterey. Ocean front rooms have a fabulous view of the bay. Really great staff and the rooms were spotless. Valet service was great as no car parking.
Good location, spacious room, large bathroom w/ tub . Loved the balcony and fire place. You can use the hotel bikes . Walking distance to the harbor in Monterey. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable about things to see and visit .
