The hotel is built in a beautiful Thai style. The room where we stayed had a balcony so we could sit outside on the evenings for card games. The location of the hotel is perfect for visiting Chiang Mai’s temples. The staff were always very friendly and helpful. I loved how they offered complimentary, great coffee until 14:00 every day.

Surrounded by Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystical capital of the North. With more than 300 temples, it's considered one of the most important cultural centers in the country.
Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still has a relaxed and laid-back feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.
This reputation is partly due to its proximity to lush green areas, mountains like Doi Suthep, and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 37 miles away with Thailand’s highest mountain.
Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city center are a popular choice, with picturesque scenery featuring its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.
The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Road hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.
Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss "The Rose of the North" deals on Booking.com!
The city is amazing. It's old, ancient, with a new charm, people are kind and helpful, and food is to die for.
In my opinion, travelers should plan around 3-4 days here, see as many temples as possible, visit all the good restaurants and all of their amazing coffee shops. I would say that once you see 2-3 temples, they all start to look the same :-D Also venturing out to the mountains to see some of the temples on the hills with the views is worth the trip, and the transportation is cheap.
We were using the Bolt app (similar to Lyft or Uber), which is very popular in Chiang Mai, and for shorter trips within the city we negotiated fares with the tuk-tuks.
Chiang Mai is the only city in Thailand I have been to, so not much to compare it to, but from other travelers I have heard it's small and not too "alive". Which makes sense. It's not a city to do much partying in, mostly to eat and see temples. If you want something more lively, others have recommended Bankok, but keep in mind it's a very large and touristy city.
Small note - please don't support any kind of elephant-related tourism (bathing, walking with elephants, feeding, supporting "beggers", petting, elephant painting, festivals involving elephants, etc.). Please do your research. The animals are badly mistreated.

20 yrs ago, we lived in C.M. for over 2 years but on this trip we still found some things to explore that we hadn't had the time to see in the past, like the Monk's Trail and motorcycling north along the Ping River. Go now! It will only get more crowded in the future.

I booked accommodation in Chiang Mai for 19 nights because it was so affordable. However, I also booked 4 nights in Chiang Rai and 2 nights in Pai during those 19 nights (so I double booked for 6 nights). It meant that I could travel to other places without the hassle of packing and checking out all the time. I think that the division of time was about right. I felt that I saw all the biggest attractions in all three towns during my stay.

Lovely old city with a range of historic and modern attractions (including ancient city walls, large number of temples (wats), etc.) Also don't miss Wat Doi Sutep (short drive from City Centre), Doi Inthanon (highest point in Thailand - about 90 minute drive - with Royal Pagodas and national park to walk around). Aroy Dee (lovely local old city, good value restaurant - don't miss the Khao Soi noodles).

We had 4 nights in Chiang Mai and spent each day on tours of the wider area. We enjoyed seeing the Hill tribes, elephant rescue centre, Chang Rai, the Golden Triangle. I would love to go to Chiang Mai again but would like more days so we could have more time to relax and enjoy the lovely climate and scenery. We were not adventurous enough with food and so often found ourselves eating thai food that was modified/ mild for the western palate. Next time I would seek out more local authentic food.

- The location is good, in the old town near all the attractions yet in a rather silent area.
- The host offers to arrange excursions and day trips, we booked a taxi with them to the sticky waterfall and it was the best price available;
- The breakfast has nice range and is good quality;
- Everything was clean and well organised;
- it's definitely not a luxury hotel, but the price:quality ratio seemed reasonable.
The Vieng Mantra is a cute boutique hotel in the old city. The location is the best, close to the Sunday Walking Street and to PhaeTae Gate. I've stayed here on two trips now and plan to again the next time I travel to Chiang Mai. I was surprised at how well maintained it was after closure from the pandemic. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The price is very good value.
New hotel on the best location in Chiangmai. Near Thaphae Gate in old city and Changmoi road (new landmark of food). Very clean hotel with good breakfast and good gym. Good Air-condition, good bed and very clean room. The hotel's staffs take care us with warm as their family. We would go back to stay at this hotel for our next trip in Chiangmai.
Very friendly personnel, a lovely hotel in the old city. From the reception to the rooms everything was perfect. They even prepared an earlier breakfast for me because I had booked an early excursion. Can definitely recommend to anyone visiting Chiang Mai.
