Fukiya Ryokan is a very special place and was the highlight of my trip to Japan. The staff went out of their way to make my stay comfortable and ensure I had plenty of onsen time at all the outside private onsen (due to my tattoo). They even let me use their public baths alone while they were closed to the public. The meals were extraordinary traditional Japanese feasts. The rooms were spacious and comfortable while still feeling authentically Japanese. It was well worth staying at slightly cheaper accommodation elsewhere in Japan to afford to have my one night at this Ryokan.

It was a great mini break and relax time after 8 days of walking, and prior continuing our trip. Once you get there by taxi (or your rental car), they will sit you down in the lobby and offer some tea or coffee. There they will tell you when it's your dinner (you have 2 slots, either 17:30 or 20:30 I think) and when would you like to have breakfast (you have multiple slots available). They will offer you the big onsen to choose the time slot since it's included in the price. They also offer the shuttle bus to Yugawara station on your check-out day.
The private onsen we had in the room is really big. You can comfortably sit in there, more than 2 persons.
The dinner is 2 hours long. Really fancy, make sure to wear the kimono you get at the lobby! :)

Beautiful serene off the beaten track little town.
Beautiful serene off the beaten track little town. Friendly people. Central enough to get around and get to Mt Fuji. Local products are tasty. Locals make the most of their local merchandise. Information centre at the station very helpful.
