Costa Dorada Thrills and Spills
Like all Costa Dorada resorts, Salou has a fantastic beach and fun watersports. But it’s the wide, palm-lined promenade that really makes it stand out. Boutiques and exclusive restaurants line its western end, while in the east the bay curves to a point where a sculpture leans out to sea. Head there for lovely views of the sandy beach and distant mountains.
Further round the coast towards Cap Salou the beach becomes rocky coves, whilst inland is PortAventura, Spain’s most visited theme park. This huge complex includes rides and rollercoasters in themed zones, and a waterpark with slides, flumes and pools galore. Also here is Lumine, a golf club boasting 2 courses designed by Greg Norman.
Next door is Port Halley shopping centre which also has a 3D cinema and bowling alley. The best shopping in Salou though is in the old town, where designer shops stay open until late.
Other Salou attractions include the dancing Font Illuminosa fountains, Bosc Aventura’s high ropes, and Aquopolis - a great waterpark for younger children. Although the town has plenty of arcades, clubs and bars, peace and quiet can be found.
Reus Airport is the nearest and it’s around 20 minutes’ drive from there to the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Salou bookable on Booking.com.

Salou is a place I visit yearly as it’s safe and has everything you would wish for on a holiday. Hire a bike and do a trip out to Cambrils , enjoy a beer or a coffee while people watching. The fountain show in the evening very enjoyable and bars restaurants you have all you need , enjoy living in the moment and tomorrow will be another day of discovery..

Lovely place. Very child and family friendly. Loads to do, the walk by the sea is gorgeous, loads of lights, trampolines, football and basketball courts to use for the public. Loads of flea markets, recommend renting bikes and you can cycle around to them. Found it difficult to get taxi, no taxi app seemed to work even the recommend ‘Cabify’ and you needed to ring but unfortunately as they were Spanish numbers we were unable to ring off are own phones. The hotel would be able to order a taxi for you though. And coming out of the airport was easy to get one.

Salou does not have a train station, the nearest is 1.5 miles from our accommodation and at this time of writing the station is under construction so trains are hit and miss and when I visited there was no ticket office, no help and nothing I could book on line, nearest train after this station is a Vita Seca but to be honest by the time we had managed to get a taxi to take five of us to the train station it was a faff, so we hired a car for 24 hours and this was 65 euros, taxis are expensive I think. Salou is an easy place to navigate, busy, tended to be with younger families but this was August so still school holidays. People appeared nice and friendly, lots of little supermarkets, lots of places to buy t - shirts, bracelets, fake items etc. Swimming with Tuna was lovely in Amellta de Mer. Would not visit again as I never go back to the same place twice. My children did not want to go to Port Aventura as they did not want to queue in the heat for water park and Ferrari land does not open until 16.00, we have done so many water parks and theme parks, they are now older teenagers. 13, 15 and 17 so were not fussed.JustineUnited Kingdom

Alot of drinks were included with all-inclusive stay, like cocktails, whiskey, rum and sangria. We really loved the room, the pool and the overall sphere. There was live music almost every night and we loved the sea view. You can take a walk around the hotel with beautiful views. We also walked to the centre of Salou, which is much shorter if you walk next to the beach (20 min). I would definitely recommend, and we will be coming back!Jamie-LeeNetherlands

It was pretty clean. No facilities for 4 stars exepting one old minifridge. We had HB and food was medium, good variety but not the best quality, many cheap things. Overall you have what to eat even with kids. Parking around the hotel ( out of the season it was pretty crowded ) Good position - 20 min walk to Portaventura, 10 min walk to beach Salou.

The hotel is really clean, the staff are really friendly, you have 3 pools including a rooftop pool and bar, the gym is small but perfect for a workout on holiday and the location is right beside the beach. The side entrance with lift cuts out the hill walk and the hotel is across from The Guinness Tavern which has arguably the best food around. Highly recommend.AlanIreland
