Abstract
Prior studies have indicated that the musical tastes and psychological traits of college students were quite consistent. Personality qualities are among the many factors that influence a person's taste in music. Chinese musical preferences were successfully tested using the Short Test of Music Preference Questionnaire (STOMP), proving the validity and stability of the questionnaire across cultural boundaries. and that stability qualities (affinity (A), neuroticism (N), and conscientiousness (C)) have less of an influence on music preference than do the BFI's plasticity traits openness (O) and extraversion (E).
