Print Design: Found Object Alphabet Poster

For this project I was asked to create a poster with a "found" alphabet. My first step was to brainstorm with camera in hand, wandering through my house and experimenting with things that might form letters.
I found that while it was easy to find a letter or two here and there, finding a concept that could be extended to all 26 letters of the alphabet proved to be a challenge. I chose my two strongest directions from the initial exploration, and expanded them to see how the concept worked when extended to more letters. I also added in some photographs of found letters on the facade of the Folger Shakespeare Museum.
I decided on garage tools as my final concept, the tools as letters were more unexpected and interesting than the other two directions. I photographed each letter on a neutral background, then used Photoshop to liberate each object from its background.
Last, in Indesign I assembled the letters in a straightforward grid on a white background, and named the "font" Garageville, as a nod to the classic font Baskerville. I placed the finished poster image in a Photoshop mockup to give it context.
