Herbert Leister, 92, died Tuesday at Hanover Hall Nursing Home in Pennsylvania. He was a farmer and a member of SandymountUnited Methodist Church. A sister, Evelyn Davidson of here, survives.
Leonard M. Hale, 69, died Tuesday at his home. He was the husbandof Gladys Bowman Hale. Retired from the State Highway Department, hewas a member of the Westminster Moose Lodge. In addition to his wife, survivors include stepsons, George H. Black III of Baltimore County, David E. and William S. Black, both of here, and 12 step-grandchildren.
Donna M. Diehl, 31, a Baltimore County resident, died May 4. She was the daughter of Ethel Secrist of here and the late Carl Fadely Jr. Employed as a technician, she attended Franklin High School andCatonsville Community College. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glyndon, Baltimore County. In addition to her mother,survivors include a daughter, Lauren of here; brothers Edward Hild and Mike Hild, both of Westminster, and Carl Fadely of here.
Jessie S. Owings, 78, died Monday at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster. A former Baltimore County resident here, she was the wife of the late Maurice R. Owings Sr. A retired teacher with Baltimore County schools and the Hannah More Academy here, she was a member of the Baltimore County Retired Teachers Association. She also was a volunteer for the National Aquarium and the Top of the World Exhibit in Baltimore. Survivors include sons Maurice R. Jr. of Baltimore County, David L.of Ohio and J. Gary of Finksburg; daughter, Melinda Setren of Pennsylvania; sisters Tilly Bates of Westminster and Ruth Doenges of California and seven grandchildren.
Esther Miller Brown, 66, died Tuesday at the Golden Age Nursing Home in Woodbine. She was the widow of Richard S. Brown, who was killed during World War II. Survivors includea brother-in-law, Alfred Brown of Abbottstown, Pa. and sisters-in-law Anita Hahn of Abbottstown and Clara Belle Brown of Westminster.
Michael C. Byrne Sr., 82, a former resident here, died Monday at the University Hospital in Baltimore. He was the husband of Alta Christian Byrne. Retired after 22 years service in the U.S. Army, he was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and the DAV, all here. In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Michael C. Jr. of Anne Arundel County; sister, Maria E. Byrne of New Jersey, and two grandchildren.
Kitty Lee Pineda, 67, died Monday at Carroll County General Hospital. She was the daughter of Helen Harbaugh Ditman of here and the late Vernon Ditman. She was the wife of the late Jose H. Pineda Jr. AU.S. Army veteran of World War II, she was employed by the Carroll County Health Department. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post and the Disabled American Veterans. She also was twice past president of the American Legion Auxiliary. Inaddition to her mother and husband, survivors include daughters Phyllis Lee Smith of here and Carmen Maria Cashman of Manchester; sons Jose H. III of here and Bernard P. Bayline of Wicomico County; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 824, Westminster.
Daniel B. Stoner Sr., 76, died Wednesday at Carroll Lutheran Village Health Care Center. He was the husband of Mildred Dowe Stoner to whom he had been married for 55 years. He was a part owner of Westminster Nurseries, serving as its president until his retirement. A graduate of the College of Agriculture at the University of Maryland, he served as secretary and president of the Maryland Nursery Association as well as two terms on the Maryland Agriculture Commission. He also was a member and past president of the Westminster Rotary and served on the board of directors of Union National Bank. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Barbara V. Grady of Florida; son,Daniel B. Jr. of here; sister, Euphamie S. Cronmiller of Anne Arundel County; half-sister, Lucy Jane S. Nasser of Kentucky; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Dorothy M. Hering, 88, died Thursday at the Westminster Nursing and Convalescent Center. She was the wife of George A. Hering, to whom she hadbeen married for 66 years. A baker for Eddie’s Bakery, she also was a charter member and secretary of the Smallwood Homemakers Club. In addition to her husband, survivors include sons William F. of here andJoseph L. of Frederick County; brothers Edward Leister of Littlestown, Pa. and Russell Leister of Hanover, Pa.; sister, Carrie Bokman of Littlestown; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. the family requests memorial donations to Westminster United Methodist Church,165 E.
