Physical media may be devalued by some in our streaming-dominated world, but you’d be surprised how many great titles are only available on disc. Also, some titles can be so much more rewarding on DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K UHD, especially when they’re loaded with special packaging and bonus features. With that in mind, here’s a look at all the best films and TV series that you can spin starting in May 2024, including Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi masterpiece Dune: Part Two, plus the disc debuts of Bob Marley: One Love, Sasquatch Sunset, Imaginary, Anatomy Of A Fall, and Arthur The King. Also arriving this month is a 4K anniversary SteelBook edition of The Crow, plus the 4K UHD debuts of the Talking Heads concert movie Stop Making Sense, the groundbreaking 1960 psychological thriller Peeping Tom, and more.

Stop Making Sense (1984)

Available May 1 Jonathan Demme’s celebrated concert film Stop Making Sense featuring the Talking Heads makes its debut exclusively from the A24 Shop after a recent theatrical rerelease. The 40th-anniversary disc edition includes two extended cuts of the movie and is packaged with a 64-page booklet featuring never-before-seen photos, archival production documents, and more. Extras include a 1999 commentary track by Demme, a 25-minute making-of documentary, archival VHS rehearsal footage of lead singer David Byrne, and the bonus songs “Cities” and “Big Business/I Zimbra.”

Available May 7 Paramount Pictures is releasing a 30th anniversary SteelBook edition of The Crow a few months before the remake starring Bill Skarsgård swoops into theaters this August. In 1994's The Crow, Brandon Lee plays Eric Draven—a rocker who returns from the grave to avenge his own death and the death of his fiancée. The new 4K restoration of the goth comic book adaptation includes a new three-part featurette titled “Shadows & Pain: Designing The Crow” and a new interview with producer Edward R. Pressman. The 4K UHD also includes legacy bonus features such as audio commentaries, a behind-the-scenes featurette, extended scenes, a deleted-scenes montage, and the theatrical trailer.

Dune: Part Two (2024)

Available May 14 Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is not only a sci-fi masterpiece, it left other movies in the dust by spicing up the box office, earning more than $686 million and counting worldwide. The official description reads: “Dune: Part Two explores the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.” Available on Blu-ray, , and , Dune: Part Two includes special features such as “Chakobsa Training,” “Creating The Fremen World,” “Finding The Worlds Of Dune,” “Buzz Around The New ‘Thopter,’” “Worm-Riding,” “Becoming Feyd,” “A New Set Of Threads,” and “Deeper Into The Desert: The Sounds Of Dune.”

One Life (2023)

Available May 14 The James Hawes-directed biographical drama One Life stars Anthony Hopkins as British humanitarian Nicholas Winton. The official description of the movie also starring Helena Bonham Carter, Lena Olin, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp, and Jonathan Pryce reads: “One Life tells the story of Nicholas Winton, who organized the rescue of hundreds of predominantly Jewish children from the Nazis on the verge of World War II. Half a century later, he is haunted by the memory of those he could not save.” Available on , One Life’s bonus features include “That’s Life,” “Stories From The Heart,” and “Behind The Scenes.”

Available May 14 Although Psycho is often credited as being the granddaddy of slasher films, Michael Powell’s Peeping Tom starring Carl Boehm, Anna Massey, and Moira Shearer deserves the recognition. The official description reads: “Armed with his killer camera, photographer and filmmaker Mark Lewis (Carl Boehm) unleashes the traumas of his childhood by murdering women and recording their deaths—until he falls for his downstairs neighbor, and finds himself struggling against his dark compulsions. Received with revulsion upon its release only to be reclaimed as a masterpiece, the endlessly analyzed, still-shocking Peeping Tom dares viewers to confront their own relationship to the violence on-screen.” The new Criterion Collection restoration of Peeping Tom includes two audio commentaries; an introduction by Martin Scorsese; an interview with editor Thelma Schoonmaker; a documentary about Peeping Tom’s history featuring interviews with Schoonmaker, Scorsese, and Boehm; a documentary about screenwriter Leo Marks; and a featurette on the film’s restoration.

Available May 14The Blumhouse horror film Imaginary directed by Jeff Wadlow stars Pyper Braun, Taegen Burns, DeWanda Wise, Betty Buckley, and Tom Payne. The official description reads: “When Jessica (Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playful and become increasingly sinister. As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.” Available on DVD and , Imaginary’s bonus features include “Meet Your New Imaginary Friends,” plus three separate making-of featurettes on the movie’s costumes, creature effects, and production design.

Available May 28 Justine Triet’s riveting French legal drama Anatomy Of A Fall starring Sandra Hüller was nominated for five Oscars, winning for Best Original Screenplay. The official description reads: “When Sandra Voyter (a transfixing Sandra Hüller), a writer who turns the material of her life into autofiction, is put on trial for the suspicious death by defenestration—or was it suicide?—of her husband, it opens up an inquiry that will turn a troubled home inside out.” The Criterion Collection features a new 2K master, an interview with Triet, deleted and alternate scenes with commentary by Triet, audition and rehearsal footage, and an essay by critic Alexandra Schwartz.

Available May 28 The musical biopic Bob Marley: One Love stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as reggae legend Bob Marley. The official description reads: “Celebrate the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love, peace, and unity. In One Love, discover Bob Marley’s powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music that changed the world.” Although the movie barely scratches the surface of Marley’s life and career, “don’t worry about a thing” because the includes more than 50 minutes of behind-the-scenes and making-of footage. Extras include “Becoming Bob Marley,” “The Story: Bringing Bob Marley’s Story To Life,” “The Cast,” “On Location: Jamaica And England,” “The Band,” and eight extended and deleted scenes.

Sasquatch Sunset (2024)

Available May 28 The surreal comedy Sasquatch Sunset starring Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg follows a sasquatch family and had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. The official description for the unusual, dialogue-free film reads: “In the misty forests of North America, a family of Sasquatches—possibly the last of their enigmatic kind— embark on an absurdist, epic, hilarious, and ultimately poignant journey over the course of one year. These shaggy and noble giants fight for survival as they find themselves on a collision course with the ever-changing world around them. Acclaimed directors David and Nathan Zellner bring you the greatest Bigfoot story ever told.” The only bonus feature is Sasquatch Birth Journal #2, a short film presented by the Zellner brothers at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

Available May 28 We still want more of Michael Keaton’s Batman on-screen, but until then we’ll have to settle for him playing hitman John Knox in the thriller Knox Goes Away. The official description of the movie also starring Al Pacino, James Marsden, Marcia Gay Harden, and Ray McKinnon reads: “Academy Award nominee Michael Keaton directs and stars in this unpredictable thriller as John Knox, a hitman attempting to make amends before his recently discovered dementia takes over. Aided by a trusted friend (Pacino) with his own shady past, Knox races against the police — and his own rapidly deteriorating mind — to save his estranged son (Marsden) from a vengeance-fueled mistake and ‘cash out’ before it’s too late.” Aside from coming packaged with a DVD and digital code, the doesn’t seem to include any other bonus features.
