Health Education England goes to tender for provision of Virtual Reality simulation training licenses

December 31, 2019 – NHS South of England Procurement Services (SoEPS), acting on behalf of Health Education England (HEE), has gone to tender for the provision of ‘Foundation Simulation Training – Virtual Reality Licenses’.

The HEE East of England local office has invested in the provision of simulation-based education across the region. Since August 2018, foundation trainees attend a full day of mandatory high-fidelity simulation training. During the sessions, trainees are immersed in a simulated clinical scenario in real-time (e.g. a scenario involving a deteriorating patient), followed by a debriefing session involving trainees, a facilitator, and their peers. According to HEE, feedback received from these sessions has shown that the educational experience is well received by trainees, and has helped to improve confidence, particularly in the management of deteriorating patients.

For the 2019/2020 academic year the HEE East of England Foundation School has introduced virtual reality simulations as learning opportunities for both FY1 and FY2 in the region. VR licenses are therefore required on an annual basis for the programme to be utilised.

HEE has valued the contract at GBP £300,000 over a term of three years. The mobilisation period for the contract will be from May 1, 2020 to August 1, 2020, with provision of services commencing thereafter from August 2, 2020 until August 1, 2023.

The deadline for receipt of tenders from any interested bidders is set for 12:00pm GMT on January 31, 2020. For more information on how to submit a bid, contact Auganix.
