Institutional Memberships

Being a member of AAS is more than attending a conference.

It is a diverse network of academics, researchers, and students.

It is being on the cutting edge of topics and current issues that affect everyone engaged with Asian Studies research.

It is a community dedicated to fostering excellence in the field.
WHAT IS AAS INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIP?

An AAS Institutional Membership allows organizations to improve access to the leading professional association in the global field of Asian Studies. Through a tiered membership dues structure, organizations can directly support students, independent and contingent scholars, and affiliated community members. In addition, the membership dues from well-funded organizations indirectly support the discounted memberships available to research centers and organizations situated in Low/Lower Middle Income countries. We also encourage current institutional members to support affiliated or unaffiliated organizations in Low/Lower Middle Income countries by purchasing institutional memberships as a gift.

The AAS Institutional Membership provides benefits to both the organization and its affiliated individuals. The member organization can reserve space at the AAS Annual Conference, receive discounts on exhibit booths and advertising, and purchase job postings in the AAS Career Center at discounted rates.

Individuals joining AAS through the Institutional Membership will be considered as individual memberships and will, therefore, get the same benefits as other regular or student members, including access to the Journal of Asian Studies, discounts on AAS and other publications, and access to our directory and communication platforms.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR AAS INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIP?
  • Research centers and institutes focused on Asian Studies in higher education
  • Departments and disciplinary agglomerations within a single institution
  • Institutions of higher education with limited budgets (such as HBCUs, community colleges, or tribal colleges)
  • Independent foundations, libraries, museums, and think tanks

RULES FOR AAS INSTITUTIONAL MEMBERSHIP

Different departments and centers within one institution must apply for separate memberships. One institutional membership benefits does not apply to all departments within one academic institution. For example: The Asian Studies Department at ABC College has an institutional membership. If the History Department at ABC college would like to take advantage of AAS Institutional Member benefits, the History Department must submit a separate application for institutional membership, with a different Institutional Administrator.
