  • On Friday, it was announced that the new film about F1 starring Brad Pitt would be called... F1.

  • Sunday Morning, before race activity kicked off for the 2024 Silverstone Grand Prix, Apple and Warner Brothers dropped the first official trailer.

  • Last year, Pitt and fellow stars of next summer's presumed blockbuster filmed scenes during the 2023 Silverstone Grand Prix.

One hour before "Lights out and away they go" was shouted from the broadcast booth at Silverstone, F1 fans got their first look at Joseph Kosinski's upcoming summer Blockbuster, titled F1. Hours later, one of the film's executive producers would go on to win the race, creating the best promotion for the film anyone could ask for.

The official trailer debuted across F1's and Apple Orginal Film's social media channels and at the track.

"You'll see the cameras come out all over the car, the shots you've never seen speed, you've never seen G forces like this, it's really, really exciting," Bruckheimer announced on X through Apple Orginal Films.

Filming for the movie has been underway over for the last season and a half, and a custom F1-like car was created for Pitt to race around select closed circuits so the film can incorporate the most realistic level of racing activity depicted in an action movie.

Pitt, 60 years old, will play Sonny Hayes, a retired driver returning to the sport as a teammate and mentor to Joshua Smith, played by Damson Idris.

The oldest driver ever to win a Grand Prix was Luigi Fagioli at 53 years and 22 days old in 1951. The oldest to start was Louis Chiron, at 55 years and 292 days old in 1955. Pitt has nine and five years on the drivers, respectively.

If the film wants us to believe Pitt's character will be fighting for wins, they're asking the audience to suspend disbelief. Ironically, the film was given the biggest gift Sunday afternoon as Lewis Hamilton won his first Grand Prix since 2021 to become the oldest winner in the 21st century at 39 years and 182 days old.

Hamilton is one of the executive producers of F1 (2025) alongside Pitt and Jerry Bruckheimer.

Before any action was shown on-screen, viewers could hear the start of Pitt's character's first monologue.

"Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston, and McLaren all have the speed on the straights. Our shot is battling in the turns. We need to build our car for combat," the character Hayes recounts.

"How am I supposed to make that safe?" Kerry Condon's character, who appears to be an engineer for the fictional APXGP race team, replies.

"Who said anything about safe?" Hayes says.

The dialogue fades out, and "We Will Rock You" by Queen begins to play over shots of racing over the last season and a half of F1. This trailer gives us the first real sense of what the movie will be.

It appears the APXGP race team will be a midpack contender pushing their luck to be able to compete with the powerhouses of the sport: Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari, and Aston Martin.

Notably, Aston Martin was listed before McLaren in Hayes's speech about the top dogs; the script was probably finalized at the start of the 2023 season but reads slightly comical against the 2024 standings.
