Ben and his crew was fantastic! His crew was neat and clean - very professional. He even called when he was running a few minutes late one morning, which was a very nice thing to do. The job was done on time, he cleaned up after himself everyday. This was a very good experience. I would definietly hire him again!

Overall, our experience with Ben was pretty bad. We wouldn't use him again or recommend him. I should say that in all the conversations with Ben, he's made it clear that he feels he did a fantastic job, was very professional, and is justified in the choices he made based on the opinion of a builder-friend of his. Strange that we apparently just aren't recognizing all that fabulousness, but here's why: 1) Ben told me that the project would take a full week, and that the sheetrock would need to be delivered on Friday so they could start work on Monday. I explained that it would be difficult for us to move everything out of the bonus room (storage) on a weeknight and asked if it would at all be possible to have the sheetrock delivered first thing Monday morning in order to give us the weekend for moving. Nope, he said that wouldn't be possible if they were going to complete by Friday at 4:00. So...of course we made it work, not easily. Then Friday morning, I clear my schedule in order to receive the sheetrock delivery. The delivery manager walks through the house to see where they're taking everything, and says he's sorry but there is no way they could possibly get the 12' boards up the stairs and that he can't fathom why an experienced installer would have made this error. So Ben ordered the wrong boards (no apology) and we have to reschedule for the 8' boards to be delivered Monday morning. Logically, I'm concerned about the schedule and I ask Ben if we need to push it a week since he said a Monday morning delivery wouldn't give him enough time, and he says, "Oh, no. It's no big deal. We have plenty of time." I should have known then and just walked away. 2) Ben's hangers, two very nice men, removed the door/frame to our crawlspace and placed it another room, and in doing so didn't pay any attention to the fact that the size of the inset of the door is smaller than the internal stud frame, so when they cut the sheetrock, they cut it too tall, leaving our door/frame unusable. This is a point of contention for Ben. He says that according to his builder-friend, the sheetrock is supposed to be cut flush with the stud frame because you can't have floating sheetrock--otherwise what would you nail the face frame into? But as I pointed out twice to Ben (he won't hear any of it), our builder made the door (that's another builder's opinion) and designed it without top mounting since it's TOTALLY UNNECESSARY, and has side screws that screw into the studs for completely sufficient anchoring. We have four of these crawlspace doors in our house, all done the same way with no issue at all. What should have happened is his hangers should have asked me about it if there was confusion. His hangers also cut the holes for all the outlets and light switches too large which meant that either we couldn't get the covers back on, or if we could, the outlets were so recessed, they were unstable. This is another thing that Ben insists was done correctly. He faults the electrician for the boxes being slightly recessed (which he's correct about), but it's irrelevant. The issue is that with the cutouts being too tall, the metal feet on the outlets couldn't rest on the sheetrock--there's plenty of wire to bring the outlets out, so the boxes weren't the problem. Ben agreed to come back and fix this (though he bizarrely still contends it was done correctly) by bridging the gap of the excess cut with thinset--and this fix, by the way, proves that it had nothing to do with the boxes being recessed. Unfortunately the discovery of all of this happened after we painted the room and began moving our stuff back in. While Ben told me before we painted that he had tested the outlet and switch covers to make sure everything fit properly, he CLEARLY hadn't. Had we known more work was necessary, of course we wouldn't have painted. Ben's outlet fix entailed him leaving big white orbs of spackle over our fresh paint around every outlet, requiring me to to paint again. For resolution of the crawlspace door, I had asked Ben to build us a new frame that would fit the hole they left us (a fair resolution, we thought), and something that would have taken him with all his tools probably 10 minutes, but he wasn't willing to do that. Instead he offered to fix it by doing more sheetrock/spackle patchwork, and then added that he couldn't do it right away due to his schedule, requiring us to wait even longer to finish the repainting and move our storage back in. Ben's response to all this is that hey, he offered to fix it. 3) When Ben did the sanding, he left the doors open and neglected to partition off the space with a plastic sheet in the hallway (who does that???!!!!), so our ENTIRE house (kitchen, bedroom, everything) was engulfed in dust for days even with daily cleaning. After the first day, I realized what he had done (after suffering a migraine all night from the dust) and asked him to please bring a plastic sheet. He nonchalantly says, "Oh, sure," then adds, "Oh, are these vents in here turned on?" He then blamed the fact that he was not made aware of that and said the reason it got through the house was because of the vents. Why he would assume that a room that has all the vent and electrical already in would not be functioning (or how he wouldn't have felt the heat blowing on him) is beyond me, but it too is beside the point. The vents are in the ceiling, not floor, and there's no return in the room. The dust is because he didn't hang plastic in the single doorway in that hall. In this same vein, Ben used blue booties when coming into the house. He then sanded with them, walked in the thick dust in them, and then proceeded to walk all around my house with them on, tracking thick dust from the sanding rooms everywhere, including the stairs, leaving me to wash the floors every night. What could possibly be the point of dirty indoor booties? 4) I also have to mention Ben and his hangers' use of our toilets. Over many years, homes, and a gazillion professional home improvements projects, I have NEVER had any professional use our toilets, until now. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've taken from this that this is just something you don't do. Somehow the basic manners of this is lost on Ben. It is an incredibly upsetting experience to have strangers in your home doing very dirty work to then use your toilets, and then to have to clean up after them especially when they've left behind a mess (and I'll just leave it at that). UPDATE: After I posted my review here, Ben sent me an invoice out of the blue for $300, claiming that I owed him more money. Even though I paid him in full at the completion of the project for our agreed upon contracted amount, a week later he claimed that he hadn't included the backer board in the contract, and so therefore I needed to come up with more money. Not only was the backer board clearly articulated to him as part of the bidding process and later confirmed before the signing of the contract, his own contract states that there would be no additional work performed outside of the contact without a new written agreement. Ben, by his own contact, clearly understands what our agreement was. Even more alarming, after my review, Ben began to harass me over email, including threats, even though I made it very clear he was never to contact me again. I finally had to turn it over to Angie's List for intervention. I sent them the entire email thread and contract for evidence. After reviewing the evidence, Angie's List told me they contacted Ben and told him his behavior was unacceptable and that if he didn't cease, they would pull his account. I am now filing against Ben with the Better Business Bureau, and should Ben choose to continue to threaten me, I will unfortunately have to pursue a restraining order against him. I asked Angie's List to require Ben to rewrite his response here, arguing his case on the merits, rather than resort to slander and blatant lies, but they said they felt is was best for a potential customer to see for themselves how Ben treats his customers. It is not legal to make such defamatory statements as he's done here, let alone to claim that someone owes you money when they categorically do not, and to threaten and harass them. Ben's statement that he's "a very professional and polite" man is a self-image he's eerily professed over and over like a mantra, completely unfazed by his behavior, no matter how unprofessional or "unpolite." Perhaps this is how he sleeps at night. From our side of things however, working with Ben has been the most horrifying contractor experience we've ever had.

I think this lady has mental problems. Everything on this review is a lie. I have done everything in my power to make this lady happy. I even did some things and not even charged her for it; but her personality is very strange. She has mood swings and just a very strange lady. I think I am going to pull my list from Angie’s List. I don’t want customers like this. I am very professional and polite and expect my customers to be the same. This lady owes me money so when I try to collect it, she wants to slam my name online. I contacted her on her personal e-mail because that is the only way to send her an invoice; and that was the way she contacted me throughout the job.

I contacted the owner, Benjamin Moore, via telephone to schedule an appointment for drywall repair. We scheduled a time, and I even sent him a photo of the repair site via text message. During the text message conversation, he again confirmed the date and time of our appointment. He did not show up for the appointment, he did not respond to phone calls or text messages. I missed a day of work for this appointment, and now I'll need to find another contractor and miss ANOTHER day of work to get this job completed. 0/10 would not recommend.

This gentleman is not being very truthful. He contacted me by phone for a quote to repair a 2’by2’ hole. I asked him to send me some pictures of the repair and I might be able to give him a quote over the phone; then we could schedule a day and time to repair is wall. He sent the pictures and then we scheduled the repair for Friday the 12th after 10:30am. I told him I would call when I was on route. I had a meeting that morning from 9 to 10:30am. After the meeting I checked my messages and discovered a disturbing message from this gentleman. I contacted him to let him know I was on route. He was very upset and informed me he thought our appointment was at 9:30am. I informed him that I had down on my calendar our appointment was after 10:30am and I would call when I was on route. He then told me he called someone else and that person would do the repair for $150.00. He then said if I could match that price I could do it. My quote was $200.00. I told him that I could not do the repair for that price. This gentleman was very rude and sent some very unprofessional text messages.

Description of Work: Ben and his crew showed up on time, finished framing a small room and sheet rocked the entire room in one day. It was a full days work, and they stayed until 6pm to complete the project. It was well done, and all were polite and professional. We got several quotes, and his was quite reasonable. They also did their best to keep things neat and clean up when complete. As you know, putting up drywall can be messy. Ben also offered to come back after the holiday weekend and "fix" any spots we may not have been happy with after priming the walls. We did not need him to come back, but the offer was very nice. I would not hesitate to use this company again, or recommend them to a friend.

Description of Work: I scraped the textured ceiling off of my vaulted ceiling in my bedroom. Thought I would just paint but the drywall joints were in terrible shape. Ben came in and re-taped and mudded entire ceiling, with scaffolding for $600; While there I had him go ahead and put on a primer coat and final coat of paint for add'l $200; Looks great. Very professional. He even met a last minute time deadline that he was previously unaware of. Great job cleaning up after himself too.

Description of Work: We hire Mr. Moore after reading all the great reviews seen in Angie's List. He originally was very responsive, set up first visit right away to see our project. We requested finishing a 1 car garage and extending a closet wall by about 4 feet. His price was high but he agreed to decrease it slightly and I was eager to get the job done and accepted his quote. He estimated the job to be done in a couple of days; After that everything went down when he sent a "partner" who was in charge of doing the framing as he does the drywall only! This second person was never available because had bigger jobs pending to do. will come and spend 30 minute here and there or simply will agree on a date and time to arrive and finish his part of the project and either didn't show up or call after to say he would not make it! extremely unprofessional, no integrity on their job, It took 5 to 6 week to finally completed the job which originally was offered to be done in less than a week! they have to fix the closet wall twice as apparently they did not communicate so the first time around was no what I have requested originally. My husband missed several days at work just because they would not bother to show up when they were supposed to. |I had to reach to Mr. Moore trough Angie's list requesting to please intervene with his partner performance and help getting the project completed. Extremely disappointed! I still don't understand how this went so wrong after reading so many good reviews! I guess my project was too small for them to care. By the way if Mr. Moore had responded as offer yes, the project was a 2 to 3 day job.

Response from Benjamin Moore Drywall LLC
I never estimated this job to be done in a couple of days. I always spoke with “The Husband” -! I never spoke with “The Wife” about scheduling or pricing or anything! I came by to quote the job on April the 8th. I told the husband that the Garage should take about one week and the closet would only take a few days. They were two separate projects and had to be scheduled for different dates. We arranged a start date for the garage on May the 12th. I have my Carpenter frame the walls and I insulated and had the sheetrock work done. This job took 4 days. The husband had no complaints. He told me the job was great. I think the confusion came in on the second job, which was the closet. Before we started this job the husband knew that it would have to be scheduled in between jobs. He wanted the closet to be moved over 2 feet to make room for their bed. We scheduled a day to look at the job, and then scheduled an approximate start for the following week. My Carpenter told the husband that it might be on Wednesday or Thursday of the following week when he could start. Before the start date the husband requested we come over again and again a few times to look the job over because the Mrs. was having a hard time deciding on how she wanted their closet. They were exploring many options. My Carpenter and I never gave the husband an exact time we would show up to discuss the other options. I would tell him that it would be on “one day or the next” and I would “call him” when I was on route! At one point the wife sent me a disturbing message through Angie’s list e-mail; I quickly responded by making an appointment with my carpenter for us both to meet with the husband at his residence to find out what was wrong. The husband said everything was fine and seemed extremely apologetic for his wife’s e-mail. He said she really didn’t know what was going on. We started the job a week later because the husband said that him and his wife were going on vacation and wanted us to start when they came back. When they got back from vacation we were able to schedule the job quickly. My carpenter spent one afternoon reframing and trimming the door. I was scheduled to come in the next day and do the drywall work around the door. I got a call from the husband that evening. He said that, “Everything was great we did exactly like they wanted”, but the wife and him decided they wanted the wall moved just a few more feet. I explained to the husband that there would be an additional charge because we have already finished with the trim work. The husband agreed and I send my Carpenter back over to redo the closet. What started out as a $400 job ended costing the husband $700. When came time for payment for the closet the husband asked that I accept a personal check for $200 and send an invoice for the remaining $500 because he didn’t want the Mrs. to know about the additional charges. It seems there is a lot of miscommunication according to the wife’s review, but it was not between the husband and I.

We are impressed with this company. Within 10 minutes or so of my initial call, I had a return call. After asking a few questions about the project to be done, he gave an estimate over the phone and then set up a convenient appointment a couple of days later. He called within the time frame I was given to say he was en route and showed up on time. He immediately began his work and was very courteous and professional. The job did not take long and it looks great! He was very neat and I had no mess to clean up after. No change in the price I was quoted after he arrived and actually saw what needed to be done. I wasn't too sure about my description!! The drywall is drying now and he said we could paint within the next day or two. Very happy so far and would recommend him highly.

The job went extremely well! Mr. Moore needed to reschedule the job and gave me 2 days notice of the reschedule, which was great. No last minute surprises! He arrived on time to complete the job on the new date. The repairs are exactly as expected. The ceiling and walls were left ready to be primed and painted. I didn't have to do any additional prep work. I plan to call him for additional work and will refer him to friends as well.

The old home was built in the 1940s. Plaster over brick interior. Many cracks and disintergrating plaster walls. Some water damages. House looks like new. Ben did a great job for a fair price in my opinion. I have plans to use him again at another property in the near future.
