Prompt

America has a problem—high school and college students have stopped pursuing careers in skilled trades like roofing, plumbing, carpentry, and heating and cooling. Now there’s a shortage of younger workers with the knowledge and skills necessary to take the place of retiring tradespeople.

Already, we have too few people who know how to perform the work that keeps our homes and businesses in good working order—and it could get worse.

Select Your Topic

  1. How would you encourage your peers or others to pursue a career in the home services trades?

  2. What do you think home service trades professionals or organizations could do to engage, train, and hire young talent into the trades?

  3. What would you say to persuade parents, teachers, or others to educate young people about these job opportunities?
