The fate of the settler colony of Constantina lies in the hands of thirteen leaders. Senior official Bunim Cardozo listens in dismay to revelations by the tribunal of the astounding number of infractions committed by the Europan government. His patriotic pride in his homeland begins to unravel and he finds himself dwelling on the unfortunate events of the past five years that led to this pivotal moment. Maya, a beautiful yogi with special powers, is drawn in by Bunim's anguish and is catapulted into his past: to the day the pandemic began. Unbeknownst to Bunim, Maya lives and feels each moment of his torment, heartache, and grief. Five years ago, when the Constantinans' centuries-long assault on the environment finally led to a viral pandemic, the government could not contain the spread. Instead, they exiled Chin and Afrikan immigrants and incarcerated the sick in death camps, where they experimented on them to find a potential treatment. Fearing for the wellbeing of the earth and innocent humans, the indigenous people outside the militarized borders of Constantina faced a choice. Would they help the Constantinans defeat the virus or allow them to succumb to it?

About the author
Maya Svevak is an activist, artist, and author, with an inter-disciplinary and multi-perspective approach.
Through her fictional writing, Maya aspires to absorb readers into the fascinating, often mystical worlds of people who are marginalized and ignored: the indigenous, dark-skinned, disabled, exploited, and abused.
In her non-fictional essays, Maya draws on her training as a scientist and lawyer to clearly lay out the links between cause and effect, so that readers can expand their understanding of the realities that afflict us locally and globally.
Maya obtained her doctorate, graduate, and undergraduate degrees from prominent North American universities. Upon leaving an award-winning scientific career in academics, she began working as a lawyer. Maya is a global citizen, who has lived in many different countries, and so has had the good fortune to understand the human experience from a rich variety of perspectives and cultural contexts. She hopes to transition to writing full-time very soon.
Maya has worked at the grassroots level with disenfranchised communities around the world, where she continues to meet awe-inspiring individuals. She weaves their incredible anecdotes of overcoming hardship with elegance and equanimity into the stories of Svevi Avatar. These stories serve as entry points into exploring many of the compelling issues of our time, such as climate change, injustice, racism, misogyny, violence, indigenous exploitation, and economic inequality. Maya hopes that through global engagement of fans of Svevi Avatar, together we will reshape mindsets toward the most pressing EcoSocial (ecological + social) issues facing humanity today, and make a measurable, real-world impact on the environment and people.

- Reviewed in India on 12 October 2020definitely exceeds expectations
I was so excited to read this wonderfully illustrated first instalment of the Svevi Avatar universe. There are so many fascinating artistic nuances in the frames, each of which really is high-quality stand-alone art. What I love about this alternate reality universe is that the power structure seems to be inverted. It's not the people whom we are used to seeing in power in the real world who hold the reigns in the Svevi Avatar universe. Instead, power emanates from people whom we usually disregard in our world. And what fantastic powers they possess! I can't wait for the novella to read how the cliffhanger in the graphic novella is resolved.
- Reviewed in India on 13 April 2021This story had one of the most unique concepts I have ever read or watched in movies for a long long time now. Like the movie 'Host' and 'Avatar' here an extraterrestrial or whose presence cannot be defined enters different species and learns about their lives as an intruder into the hosts.
They witness the upcoming Pandemic. Most of the time it has no control over its own next step. Maya is her/his name. Maya is controlled by time who she begs to let her go free from this timeless cycle. First I thought she is a soul, later I assumed she is an alien and after that I thought she is the Virus. Yes the virus that is causing this pandemic right now for one year is base of this story. It has a backdrop in the future when the pandemic is still present for 5 years. Here the concept of time is nonlinear. The story of hosts show the story of the past, present a d future that how this beautiful Earth has been transformed into a garbage. At times it was confusing to link all the three characters lives simultaneously. I really found this unique philosophically oriented science fiction blended fantasy plot wonderful on a very real life event which reminds us to think and act about where is humanity heading and who and how it may be saved.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastically beautiful capture of the global struggles faced by humanity
Verified PurchaseAs we all stay awake pondering how our global community has reached this point in history, Maya so aptly calls out that time amuses itself and works on its own whims. This first instalment accurately depicts some of the human struggles we are all facing in a format that manages to be both engaging and poignant at the same time! Accessible to a wide audience. Looking forward to Book 2, I recommend this novella for young and old readers alike!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational-HighArt Superhero Series
Verified PurchaseI just received my hard cover version of this superhero novella series-- Svevi Avatar which arrives just in time to save the world from a global pandemic! The heroes are heroines that come from Indian legends and the superpowers and insights of native peoples. Since nothing else seems to be working on our current global virus this engaging graphic novella is a great escape and helps unleash our creative abilities to overcome even the most nightmarish moments. The story line is compelling and makes you want to know how this will end. The art work and character renderings are high-art worthy of framing and hanging on your wall. Maybe there is even a real world insight in this as to how and who might be most likely to save the day in our current dystopia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and Inspiring
Verified PurchaseA riveting and prophetic account of the forces at work in today's world and how they shape our perception of the challenges we are facing. The author has done a fine job of showing what happens to a divided society when faced with a global problem like a pandemic or environmental degradation. The excellent, beautifully crafted illustration are worthy of the story and only make more compelling. Definitely five stars!
