Lush: A Season-by-Season Celebration of Craft Beer and Produce Hardcover – October 15, 2019
Purchase options and add-ons
From Jacquelyn Dodd―the woman behind the award-winning website The Beeroness—comes Lush, a celebration of fruit, vegetables, and craft beer. After all, beer is as seasonal as produce; its ingredients come from the soil and are harvested at peak freshness, just like the offerings at your local farmers’ market. It’s no surprise that the flavors of seasonal craft beers pair perfectly with the food we’re eating at the moment.
This cookbook features 80 creative, produce-forward recipes—all of which are made with seasonal craft beer. From Gochujang ISA Shakshuka to Grilled Apricot Saison Shortcakes to Doppelbock Rutabaga Mash, make no mistake: this isn’t your drunk uncle’s beer chili.
Whether your Saturdays are spent at the farmers’ market or your favorite local craft brewery (or both!), Dodd’s creative use of produce and beer opens the door to deliciously complex flavors that evolve with the seasons.

“Jacquelyn Dodd has . . . parlayed the success of her blog into a full-fledged cookbook [The Craft Beer Cookbook] devoted to cooking with craft beer. A short primer touches on common beer styles and pairing basics, but then the text switches over to handsome sounding recipes.” —Los Angeles Magazine
“If you’re a beer lover who’s ever wished you could sustain yourself solely on the beverage, Jacquelyn Dodd’s The Craft Beer Cookbook is for you. Dodd . . . covers the basic styles of beers and includes a beer-tasting chart to help readers pair beers with various flavors.” —Paste

About the author
Jacquelyn Dodd is an award-winning beer and food writer and photographer based in Seattle, Washington. She has lived a somewhat uncommon life. She learned to make fried chicken in Compton, almost died in Morocco, taught a gang member to drive a stick, and has an above-average ability to fold fitted sheets. But how does a farm girl with a master’s in psychology who has failed stints in everything from door-to-door vacuum sales to runway modeling become a published beer and food writer and photographer? Well, clearly, she was running out of options.
Dodd is the woman behind the beer at the award-winning website TheBeeroness.com. Her beer-infused recipes earned her a spot as a finalist for Saveur’s Best Original Recipes as well as the crowned winner for Best Beer Coverage. She has been seen on The Today Show, Lifetime Network, and CBS News, and in publications such as Food & Wine, Imbibe, Bite, and the San Francisco Chronicle. She has written for Parade, 1889, Draft Magazine, and Whisk, among others, and is the author of The Craft Beer Cookbook, The Craft Beer Bites Cookbook and Lush: A Season-by-Season Celebration of Craft Beer and Produce.

But it's refreshing to see a book of more elevated recipes that are thoughtful in their use of specific beers as ingredients because of their flavor profiles. The book is organized by season, so when Fall brings carrots, squash, and mushrooms, the author puts those veggies front and center and incorporates beers that enhance those flavors -- brown ales, pumpkin beers, etc.
Most of us probably tend to drink lighter, fruitier beers when the weather is warm and heavier, darker stuff when it's cool outside so it makes sense to use the same "seasonal" beers we want to drink when we're cooking. And it's nice to have a well-written, beautiful book that helps with that!
If you're specifically looking for vegetarian recipes that include beer this might be up your alley. If you cook for fun I would recommend either of her other two books before this one.
