Well worth the investment, user friendly, easy and challenging all in one
5 out of 5 stars
Well worth the investment, user friendly, easy and challenging all in one
WOW! let me start with I would have given this a 4 1/2 stars but...wanted to let you know this is a 5 star bike! My reason for 4 1/2 stars...the power attachment is on the lower left of bike is on the floor.. I have this in my garage and tripped over the power cord several times...So I used zip ties-re routed power to below seat and then used a one plug extension cord to plug in on garage ceiling...Now the bike.. I had a felt resistance bike for 5 years and that felt wore out and I decided I wanted to upgrade. So I researched and thought "Pelton" and other bikes with "attached"screens, However most bikes stated "warranty void if used in garage/or outside" as I would understand because the delicate screen..I also determined IF I had a screen issue in the future I would have a useless bike...and I also determined those bike with attached screens can ONLY be used with THEIR purchased apps... I began an in-depth research into this bike and learned you CAN access "Pelton" (I know spelled incorrect) app at a reduced price than if you bought their bike! I think 12 buck or so compared to their 39 bucks..I also learned there are several other apps that this bike can access and run...(via bluetooth with a tablet..ipad) I had an ipad and thought the delicate screen-the ipad- can be removed when not in use. and I didn't like the idea of "being locked" in to only 1 app-Pelton- only...I didn't think I would like a person "motivating" me along the way...so after weeks of thought I bought this bike.. I assembled it..pretty easy...I tried it out and it was on level "30" initially after assemble. I thought to myself "oh boy...no resistance..this is too easy.. I may have made a mistake" Remember I had a felt resistance bike prior with no readout so I did not know that "level" of resistance... So I increased the resistance and was very happy to see this went up to 100......I of course set this to level 55 and went to town....that was brutal after 20 minutes! I ride 20 miles or more on my street bike in the summer 10 days a month, I rode my felt resistance bike for 5 years 15 times a month-sometimes less- so I'm not "out of shape" thinking this was hard at level 55....so I got my ipad out went to utube and found some concerts I wanted to watch...connected my ipad to my stereo and jammed out! I have not tried any "apps" yet..but will this fall when I'm concert out..most all apps have a free trial....What I like about this bike is the looks, the sturdy feel, the spot of a tablet, the fact it is magnetic resistance......what a difference from felt resistance...the magnetic resistance is constant and consistent...I like the read out info.. I like it came with a heart monitor...that sort of took some googling to see how to connect..you start the bike in awake mode...press the bluetooth button on the bike computer and then press and hold the heart monitor button several seconds until it flash's pink..then start pedaling the bike..the heart flash's and your connected! then press and hold to shut off monitor when finished. Many reviewers stated the pedal becomes loose and starts to "click" I bought a small tube of loctite at the car parts store and assembled the pedals with that on the threads and had no issues..I bought this bike In april 2021 and I have rode 15-20 miles 3 times a week and it is still fun! I have no issues or concerns! It comes with attachments for "cleats"? shoes... I used the cage wraps....I ride in my slippers....attached garage. the only other issue....while the handle bar is shaped nice and has a weird flat spot for you hands/which you will love..is I am gong to get padded bike gloves..the handle bar is the same consistency of a sprayed in truck liner...not bad, but adding foam or bike gloves will make it perfect. And...my felt resistant bike was chain driven...I thought that was quiet..this is belt driven....it is silent... although as you can see in my pics/vid that the noise level of this bike didn't matter to me. I know there is no "one size fits all" but this met all my expectations and is a great workout for me.

Style: Schwinn IC3 Indoor Cycling BikeVerified Purchase
This is an update after 3 1/2 months and over 50 hours of online spinning type classes.

I am an outdoor cyclist and figure this bike has now seen the equivalent of around 800 miles on a road bike. I have been reading reviews and it seems that there is some quality inconsistency -- mine is great; other folk have problems. I find the bike to be sturdy and reliable. I ride pretty hard both in and out of the saddle (that's what spinning classes do) and use a variety of resistances from easy (high pedal rate/"flat road) to low pedal rate, high resistance simulating hill climbing.

I have had one significant issue so far -- The display stopped working after only a couple of weeks. Schwinn support was good except they mis-diagnosed the problem. They felt is was a faulty sensor and sent a new one. Since the display began to work again a few days later I diagnosed it as sweat getting into the connector (I sweat profusely during the ride and the display and wiring get soaked). So I used duct tape to protect the vulnerable area and that worked. I never did swap out the sensor. More on the display later.

I also developed a small noise in the pedals after about 30 hours. I tightened them up and was good-to-go again. I think it is good to check and tighten moving parts periodically to prevent problems. For those who are concerned about all of the complaints about pedal problems you should note that so many of them are concerning the left pedal. I think some people do not realize that the left pedal is threaded opposite direction. Screwing it in clockwise (normal direction) will result in cross threading and early failure!

Now, back to the display. The electronic display would be much more useful if the cadence information was not alternating with the speed data. The only two true pieces of data are the cadence and heart rate — they should both be in their own area on the display. The speed, distance and calories are not at all accurate since they do not take into account the resistance of the felt brake pad. More brake pressure simulates a higher gear and, therefore, would result in a higher speed for the same cadence. Similarly, calories burned are a function of both cadence and resistance so are therefore not accurate (resistance not taken into account). My suggestion is to move the speed information to alternate with the distance information.

Since the heart rate on the display only recognizes a limited number of HR monitors (and not mine) I devised another solution. I removed the display and for about $10 got the same bracket I use on my road bicycle to hold my iPhone (it clamps onto the handlebars). I now can use my heart rate monitor and my cadence monitor from my bike for an accurate display (my phone). AND it then gives me a record of the workout by time including calories burned. Using an app like Strava I can now keep track of my workouts in a way that I can see progress (or lack thereof).

Another minor issue is that if you sweat a lot, the front fender needs to be a bit longer to prevent sweat from dripping onto the flywheel’s circumference. When sweat from my head drips onto the flywheel it changes the resistance generated by the felt braking mechanism. I made an extension using part of a Weber BBQ drip pan attached by duct tape.

Read my "first impressions" review below for the multiple user issue I discuss -- not a problem for me but might be for some!

Bottom line: Great bike at a fraction of the price of the well known "professional" bikes. I have gotten used to changing the resistance using the knob and find it easy to follow online spinning classes and get great workouts. I have had good experience with response to questions, etc. from Nautilus (Schwinn) customer service. Had to wait on hold for longer than I would have liked but I understand this problem since sales have been so strong that the customer service lines are swamped. Exercise equipment became the new "toilet paper" due to Covid-19. The warranty on this bike is great and I am thankful that I found a way to exercise vigorously to keep my sanity until this Covid-19 thing is over!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a "first impressions" review. The bike arrived on time, well packaged and in good condition. Assembly was straightforward (took 1 hour for me to assemble alone). There are two points in assembly where a second person would have been helpful -- getting the stuff out of the box (without destroying the box), and attaching the front and rear stabilizers (requires elevating the attach points). Both difficulties are because the bike is heavy with heavy flywheel and those become pluses for the riding experience.
I have ridden it one time so far and the bike is extremely stable, smooth and quiet. It feels like the bikes in spinning class.
One big drawback: If you plan to share this bike with another person (or several) it will be difficult for each to consistently set it the same way each time. There are four adjustments: seat height and fore-aft position; handlebar height and fore-aft position. Only the seat height can be consistently set (pin into holes). The other three settings have no specific position markings and the only way to re-set to the same position after they have been changed would be with a ruler or tape measure. Additionally, these three adjustments are secured by screwing in adjustment handles which cause pins to bear on the corresponding post. They have to be torqued down pretty hard to avoid wobble and, I believe, repetitive re-setting positions will cause failure to lock in the positions without wobble.

I wanted a gym-quality exercise bike for home and I really don't care about Zwift or other cycling apps. The Schwinn IC4 checks all the boxes. I got the IC4 rather than the IC3 just to keep my options open re apps. Most importantly, this is a really well made mostly well designed gym-quality bike. I would bet that these are used in spin classes all over. Assembly was easy, even people with modest mechanical skills will find it a breeze. Everything that was factory-assembled was good and tight, all as it should be. Everything works extremely well and I got precisely what I wanted.

I do, however, have some minor beefs. The biggest is the lack of a tilt adjustment on the handlebars. I know this would add complexity and expense but it would help to find the most comfortable position. Even without that, this isn't a big problem for me. The water bottle cages are a joke and I removed them after one ride. They just get in the way and using the bike at home, I have lots of options for setting a water bottle within easy reach. These may be useful in a gym setting but I found them to just be clunky. Finally, as noted by several others, the RPM scale is analog and only marginally useful.
But, as I said, none of this detracts from this being a really top quality product that I will use a lot.

First of all, the bike was EASY to assemble. My husband puts these things together and he joked this is the first time he hasn't cussed putting one together. :D Next, we did not want a Peloton for the expense and also the monthly workout subscription. We prefer to watch a show on or movie on a streaming service so I can't speak to the apps for workouts. Even with watching a show, I come off the bike sweating buckets so you can go as hard as you like! Easy adjustable settings and the screen is super easy to figure out. It's so quiet which I absolutely love! The only thing I don't love is the seat. This is easy to solve with a wider seat. This is me problem with a larger rear-end and liking the comfort ride. Highly recommend!

Realmente a melhor bike ergonometrica. Eu sou alta 1,73 e amei.

Realmente a melhor bike ergonometrica. Eu sou alta 1,73 e amei. O preço é alto mas considere um investimento. Bem melhor que pagar barato em uma bike sem qualidade … E ficar frustrado depois. O que me ajudou bastante foi os comentários positivos dessa bike. E foi realmente a melhor escolha!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely happy with purchase

I've had this bike for over a month now and am extremely happy with it. It's well built, the levers for adjusting the seat and grab bars are great compared to the knobs that I'm used to a commercial studios. It is quiet and only hums a bit at higher resistance. Taking the advice of previous reviewers, I bought treadmill lubricant and applied it to the wheel/felt pad. That took care of any minor squeaking that started to happen at higher resistance levels.

I use this bike with the Peloton app. The computer readout displays RPM (cadence) although the RPM information alternates with the speed (km/h) information so it's a bit of a nuisance if you're trying to follow RPM closely but the display is showing speed. Over time you'll know the speed equivalence of RPM/cadence so it doesn't bother me that the display doesn't show RPM all the time. (ie: 35 km/h = approx 90 RPM, 25 km/h = approx 70 RPM) The Schwinn bike does not display resistance levels. One tip I have if you're using the Peloton app is to go and try the Peloton bike at one of their showrooms. You'll get a good feel for what a resistance level 20 / 40 / 60 feels like so you can adjust accordingly with the Schwinn bike based on feel. For me close enough is good enough. Peloton resistance levels are generally a range/guide and each person adjusts according to their comfort/ability anyways.

The calorie information does not take into account resistance. It seems to only take into consideration time and distance. The bike does not come with a heart rate monitor despite the computer having a box that would show heart rate/pulse if you purchased a compatible remote heart rate monitor.

If you use a large tablet (for the time being I use my iPhone) it can be difficult to grab the water bottle out of the water bottle holder since the tablet would be in the way. I would purchase a separate water bottle holder if I do use a tablet in the future.

I have Specialized cycling shoes with shimano clips. They are perfectly compatible with the clips that come with the bike. No issues at all clipping in and out of the bike. I have taken off the cage straps as they kept slapping the pedal itself and making noise when pedaling with cycling shoes.

Assembly was easy and straight forward. You'll need two people - one person to hold/lift the bike up while the other person places the front and back base brackets in place. The box is also heavy and should be moved by two people.

All in all, I love this bike. It solid and well built, looks great, quiet, feels great, rides smooth. This isn't a Peloton bike but it does all the things that spinning bikes are supposed to do. If you're looking for a cost effective alternative to Peloton bike or just a solid spinning bike for your home, I highly recommend this one.
