How to interact with Alexa without speaking

Tap to Alexa lets you interact with Alexa using touch instead of voice. On Echo Show devices and Fire tablets, use Tap to Alexa to engage with Alexa without speaking and instead touching on-screen tiles or an on-screen keyboard. You can also use Tap to Alexa for text to speech, typing anything you want spoken aloud by Alexa, or you can save your favorite phrases as custom tiles on your dashboard. Tap to Alexa is compatible with Switch Access on Fire tablets and supports a number of Bluetooth switches to interact. Plus, with Eye Gaze on Alexa gaze at your tablet to perform preset Alexa actions. Learn more.

  3. Select Accessibility and toggle Tap to Alexa on.
Once enabled, try the actions below:
  1. Try tapping default tiles to play music, find out the weather, or listen to the news.
  2. Try tapping the "Ask Alexa" tile and type in a request as you would with voice.
  3. Try tapping the “Text to Speech” tile and type a word or phrase to be spoken aloud.
  4. Try tapping the "Add New" tile to create a custom tile that invokes your most frequently used Alexa interaction (for example, "play music by Bon Jovi"). This can also be used to create a custom "Text to Speech" tile of your most frequently used words and phrases. You can also add an icon and color to your tiles to help group and identify them on your dashboard.

Tap to Alexa is available on Echo Show devices, Fire 7 and Fire HD 10 Tablets (released after 2019), as well as Fire HD 8 Tablets (released after 2018) in the USA, UK, Germany and Japan.
