#2 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER* • “Rogen’s candid collection of sidesplitting essays . . . thrives at both explaining and encapsulating a generational comedic voice.”—The Washington Post

A collection of funny personal essays from one of the writers of
Superbad and Pineapple Express and one of the producers of The Disaster Artist, Neighbors, and The Boys. (All of these words have been added to help this book show up in people’s searches using the wonders of algorithmic technology. Thanks for bearing with us!)

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR • New York Post Marie Claire Self BookRiot

Hi! I’m Seth! I was asked to describe my book,
Yearbook, for the inside flap (which is a gross phrase) and for websites and shit like that, so… here it goes!!!

Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. (I understand that it’s likely the former, which is a fancy “book” way of saying “the first one.”)

I talk about my grandparents, doing stand-up comedy as a teenager, bar mitzvahs, and Jewish summer camp, and tell way more stories about doing drugs than my mother would like. I also talk about some of my adventures in Los Angeles, and surely say things about other famous people that will create a wildly awkward conversation for me at a party one day.

I hope you enjoy the book should you buy it, and if you don’t enjoy it, I’m sorry. If you ever see me on the street and explain the situation, I’ll do my best to make it up to you.

*I was beaten by Bill O’Reilly, which really sucks.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“It’s a real treat when a memoir by a comedian is actually as funny and vital as the work that got them into memoir-writing territory, but Yearbook is just that delightful. . . . Amusing and insightful.”—Vulture

“In need of oddball anecdotes and lots of F bombs? Seth Rogen has you covered. . . .
Yearbook features a hilarious collection of real-life stories and personal essays that delve into his adolescence and career.”—USA Today

“The actor and writer will have you keeled over in laughter with his memoir, made up of a collection of essays that will make you think about the world differently. . . . Fasten your seatbelts for this page-turner, folks.”
—Men’s Journal

“Everyone’s favorite stoner recalls his childhood, youth, and first stirrings of Hollywood success. . . . Fans of Rogen will enjoy his laid-back, whimsical memoir.”
Kirkus Reviews

“At first I was worried that Seth was writing a book, because I was like, ‘Oh no! What’s he gonna say?’ I was actually scared to even read it. But I’m very happy I did. It’s not really a memoir, like I thought it might be. I guess it’s more of a bunch of funny true stories? Does that make sense? He talks about doing stand-up when he was a kid (I drove him to all his shows!), his grandparents, high school, moving to LA, meeting some famous people, things like that. If I’m being honest, I really wish there wasn’t so much drug talk. Why does he need all that! It’s like, ‘We get it!’ And some of the stories? I mean, they’re entertaining, but I was just shocked they happened and he never told me! Overall, I think it’s more sweet and funny than anything, so I like it, and I’m glad he wrote it, but I’d be even more glad if he called me more.”
—Sandy Rogen, Seth’s mother

I was laughing out loud at work
So if you dig Seth Rogen and his particular brand of humor then you will thoroughly enjoy this book. Well written, there is thought provoking insight on particular folks, and I really enjoyed how he wasn't afraid to put himself out there and name drop everyone he encountered. I laughed at work, I laughed in bed, I laughed just thinking about some of the stories while sitting on the toilet, so I recommended to some friends who also need to laugh. There are little diagrams in it so your imagination can fully picture what he is painting, I wish there were more of those since they added to the funny for me. 5/5 it is a DOPE readSide note: He tweeted that another customer gave him a 1 because the book was "greasy". I too experienced the book cover having prints on it but thats the distributors mishap, not like Seth Rogen ate some fried chicken and handled the book himself to mail to me. You know what I did? Removed the book jacket and continued to read. Well worth it.

It's not laugh out loud funny but it's still funny in its own way. It's not in chronological order but more of a set of essays about his life and unique encounters with other celebrities. I was hoping he'd dive deeper into what it was like to work on most of the projects he's worked on like Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, this is the end, and whatever projects he's been into in recent years. It was a somewhat fun and easy read so maybe like a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I am a fan of Seth Rogen and a native Vancouvernite too so I bought this book to show my support. But it’s such a good read, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rogen’s very candid and often hilarious take of his own childhood and teenage years in Vancouver, and then his a humorous look at his adult years in LA through an insider’s view of Hollywood as a writer and actor. I laughed out loud so many times! But there were also some touching moments here and there about his life which makes you appreciate his sense of humor and Rogen’s down to earth character as well despite being a big name in Hollywood these days.

This book by Seth Rogen is somewhat of an autobiography, told through a series of humorous stories about his life. You can tell by the style of writing that Rogen started out as a stand-up comedian, and in fact the first chapter of the book is about his starting stand-up at age 12. Each chapter has some funny dialogue that Rogen recalls from a period in his life, and he is great at telling these often self-deprecating stories in a way that makes them amusing and fun to read. You end up learning a decent amount about Rogen's life and upbringing, while still being entertained by his crazy experiences and comedic writing style.

Rogen's style of comedy might not be for everyone, but if you have watched any of his movies, then you should have some idea of what to expect. The chapters are almost like little movie scenes because of all the dialogue, and you can almost picture him acting out the scenes he describes. This really makes the book overall feel like a script for an autobiographical comedy movie. If you're a fan of Seth Rogen, I would imagine you'll enjoy it.

An interesting collection of stories on what it’s like to be a Jewish kid in Canada and how Seth found weed and shrooms. There are also some interesting stories about Hollywood. The organization of the stories is not in any particular order kind of like listening to Seth talk story, a little disjoint if you get what I mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seth Rogen delivers once again
Reviewed in Canada on September 8, 2021
I don't think my summer would be complete without mentioning one of the literary highlights of it-reading Seth Rogen's autobiography “Yearbook”. I have to admit right up-front that I am a huge fan of this man's work-seeing every movie, TV show and almost everything he's done on YouTube, and of course I touched on part of that career last month when I wrote about the wonderful TV series “Freaks and Geeks”. One of the actors who got their start on that show was, of course, Seth Rogen. Most people know that Seth was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C. but some may not be aware of the fact that he signed up for a comedy workshop when he was only 12, co-wrote a draft for the movie “Superbad” (which was based on his real experiences) when he was only 13 (what?) and was doing stand-up routines in comedy clubs when he was just 16-making him the family's main wage earner when he co-starred on the TV series “Freaks and Geeks”. The rest is, as they say, history with multiple awards, over 20 movies (as writer, producer, actor or all), creating his own line of Cannabis products (“Houseplant” brand), pottery (no pun intended) and forming a charity with his wife (actress Lauren Miller-who he met when he worked on “Da Ali G Show”, and she acted in a few of his movies) that raises money, awareness and inspires change in how Alzheimers is perceived. It's called the “Hilarity For Charity” movement. This book is a very personal journey filled with over-the-top humour, including the worst summer camp experience imaginable, Seth's insights and experience in Hollywood (one case in particular shines a light on an actor of colour who was a racist jerk to Seth, making anti-Semetic comments) and general mayhem that made Seth who-and what he is today. It's easy for some people to just pass Seth Rogen off as a modern-day Cheech or Chong, but they would be extremely shortsighted and sadly mistaken, as Seth Rogen is a master at his craft and literally wrote the book on millennial comedies-and now he can throw it at us (yuk yuk)...I know, leave the jokes to the professionals. This is a great read-and that's no joke.

I love this book! It’s funny and east to read. It was extra relatable for me because I’m the same age as Seth and from the same place so all his references and reminiscing about his younger days was extra fun for me.
It’s a nice easy read. If you like Seth Rogan, I think you will like it. If you don’t like Seth Rogan, maybe you will after you read it! ;)
