About the author
N. Gregory Mankiw is the Robert M. Beren Professor of Economics at Harvard University. As a student, he studied economics at Princeton University and MIT. As a teacher, he has taught macroeconomics, microeconomics, statistics, and principles of economics. He even spent one summer long ago as a sailing instructor on Long Beach Island.
Professor Mankiw is a prolific writer and a regular participant in academic and policy debates. His research includes work on price adjustment, consumer behavior, financial markets, monetary and fiscal policy, and economic growth. His published articles have appeared in academic journals, such as the "American Economic Review", "Journal of Political Economy", and "Quarterly Journal of Economics", and in more widely accessible forums, such as "The New York Times", "The Washington Post", and "The Wall Street Journal."
He has written two popular textbooks--the intermediate-level textbook Macroeconomics (Worth Publishers) and the introductory textbook Principles of Economics (Cengage Learning). Principles of Economics has sold over two million copies and has been translated into twenty languages.
In addition to his teaching, research, and writing, Professor Mankiw has been a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, an adviser to the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Congressional Budget Office, and a member of the ETS test development committee for the advanced placement exam in economics. From 2003 to 2005 he served as Chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A textbook with life lessons
IMHO, the two fields of study should be made compulsory, right from the inception of educational pursuits (for a firm grasp in understanding the world around us):
Dealing with human activities: Economics
Dealing with nature (everything non-human): Physics
Rest are just commentaries arising from these two!
Mankiw's "Principles of Economics" is the best book to get initiated for this journey towards understanding the humanly pursuits (whether human as an individual OR society/country as a group). To exemplify my argument, attached is a snap from one of the most amazing (rather, life altering) textbooks I have had the pleasure to come across. Its presentation style is more like the reader and author are having a real-time conversation (with lots of aptly placed news-pieces, cartoon strips and case studies), rather than being overtly pedantic.
A must have for everyone, who can comprehend simple English language.
P.S. The only drawback, one might find, is that it focuses solely on the US metrics & policies (but the examples and life situations can be easily extrapolated, by making suitable analogies).

5.0 out of 5 stars Its really simple if you actually read it for real.
This book is written in such an easy language that if you do self study of this book you'll find out that it's well written and even the examples in this book are fetched from the world itself. Don't go by the thickness of this book. Just go by the quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, but would have loved to get a colour edition.
The book was received in very good condition, and the packaging was very intact. The actual PDF available on the internet is a colour copy, but the book I received is a greyscale print.
The book is really good for starters and case studies and examples have been employed generously to get a firm grasp of the concepts explained

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good book for the beginners in the field of Economics
As a person who has completed my B.A(H) in Economics and MA Economics, I would recommend this book to every individual who wants to pursue Economics in their higher studies. Treat it as your Bible as you start out! Then you can move on to a more analytical approach to Economic theories as giver in other advanced books.
