Product Description

The OXO Good Grips 5-Pound Food Scale with Pull-Out Display is perfect for portioning meat, produce, spices and more. Weigh items directly on the platform, on a plate or in a bowl. The display pulls away from the base to prevent shadowing from large containers. A weight indicator shows the capacity left on the Scale before the 5-pound maximum is reached. Press the Zero button to offset the weight of a container or to set the weight back to zero before adding additional ingredients. The display features large, easy-to-read numbers in 1/8-ounce (US) and 1-gram (metric) increments. The platform removes for quick cleaning by hand and the Scale’s thin profile stores easily. Includes four AAA batteries.

The other button toggles through the four displays: Grams, Kilograms, Pounds and Ounces and Ounces.Accuracy is dead on at 20g, 30g and 50g.The batteries last for months (under heavy use), so an adapter/charger is not necessary.This scale will probably be the best (just under) $30 that you could spend for your kitchen. At this price, it would make an excellent gift for a wedding, a birthday or any occasion.The only negative thing I can possibly say about this scale is that they are NOT submersible... trust me, I know. :)Highly recommended.

The pull out control panel makes seeing the illuminated LCD screen easy when weighing large diameter objects.
The controls are simple and straight forward. One button for ON, OFF and TARE (zeroing the scale). The other button toggles through the four displays: Grams, Kilograms, Pounds and Ounces and Ounces.
Accuracy is dead on at 20g, 30g and 50g.
The batteries last for months (under heavy use), so an adapter/charger is not necessary.
This scale will probably be the best (just under) $30 that you could spend for your kitchen. At this price, it would make an excellent gift for a wedding, a birthday or any occasion.
The only negative thing I can possibly say about this scale is that they are NOT submersible... trust me, I know. :)

I like to bake using weight rather than scoopable measuring cups. My results are consistent EVERY time regardless of humidity and other factors that can affect so many baked goods.
For years, I used an old Weight Watchers scale, but when I saw this one reviewed, I decided to try it. It is very easy to use, can be switched between imperial and metric measurements. The on/off button also doubles as a "tare" button - it zeros out the weight of the container so you can only weigh the ingredients as you add them.
I also like the fact that you can pull out the display so that you can read it when weighing with oversized containers. Finally, it's small enough that I can tuck it behind anything on the countertop so it's out of the way and invisible.
I am a long-time fan of OXO products - they are well designed and easy to use and this one meets all expectations.

Auto shut off is important to me and this never turns off. You learn to turn it off after a while, but the batteries drain much faster if you (like me) occasionally forget. I like the pull out feature. Probably will look for something else when it's time to replace it.

I threw away all of my other food scales and bought 2 more of these because they are really excellent. They don't time out. They have a reasonably small footprint. They are lightweight and easy to take to a restaurant. They have a slide out feature for reading the weight of the food that makes them really versatile.
