Good Looking Watch, Nothing Special About It and It's Not for Me...

Good Looking Watch, Nothing Special About It and It's Not for Me...

Longtime Apple watch user here. Admittedly, I opted to demo this watch out of sheer curiosity, really wanting to know where top tier smartwatch technology has gone in the past half decade. I’m also a fan of Fossil, so I felt like I was going with a great option for exploring other brands. After taking off my Apple Sport and wearing this one for a day, here’s a breakdown of my experience.Setup: Relatively easy, in my opinion. I’m no tech-wiz, so if I could do it within minutes and get used to the watch’s interface, then so should you. Downloading the Fossil app on my phone only took a second and the watch does pretty much everything else…Usability: The display is bright, clear and concise. Everything is pretty accessible in comparison to any other smartwatch I’ve used, albeit a little different in layout. The default watch screen “Wellness Gauge” seemed a little muddled to me, so I immediately changed it to the “Fitness Digital” face, which offered a neater appearance for my preferences. The only reason I even wear a smart watch is to track my activity levels throughout the day and this watch seems to do an acceptable job of that, in comparison to my Apple watch. I would say it does no better or worse a job, really. Response time is slightly better than my Apple watch due to what has to be a more powerful processor, but there isn’t as much difference as I would think. When answering a call with the watch, I found the speaker to be pretty loud on the highest volume, which was a welcome surprise, but you’d still have to be realistic about this, especially in a noisy place. The band is soft and well made, but I didn’t care for the process of removing it. It’s a little finnicky, but it does appear to have a good connection with the face of the watch. I’d like to point out that it makes no sense that the Fossil brand is etched on the underside of the band so that instead of being seen, rather it digs into your wrist and makes an imprint. Kind of strange, haha. As far as battery life, I found it sufficient for the amount of time I wear my smartwatch, which usually doesn't exceed 10 to 11 hours. I'm also not super interactive with it throughout the day and this will obviously have a huge impact on it.Comfort: If I had to wear the watch day in and day out, I’d probably become a raging bear. I realize I’m accustomed to the rectangular shape of an Apple watch, but there’s more to it. The main dial on the side of the watch is so obtrusive, that it jabbed into my hand all day and even made a red bruise on my hand. I’m going to assert the opinion that smartwatches just don’t work well with a circular design due to how big the screen has to be in order to remain legible. It might bother some, some it may not. It may also depend on the size of your wrist. I don’t know…Overall opinion: I don’t want to give the impression I’m one of those annoying Apple enthusiasts that would lay down and die for their dedication to the brand. I swear, I’m not. They’ve made a lot of mistakes and they’re not perfect. I also subscribe to the philosophy that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I’m still using a 2015 MacBook and an iPhone Xr with a steadfast refusal to upgrade until necessary. All that said, I wouldn’t ditch my 6 year old Apple sport for this watch. It’s a little deeper than not being able to teach an old dog new tricks. My Apple watch, in my humble opinion, is simply designed better than this one. Inside and out. Also, if it wasn’t obvious, this watch will be much friendlier to Google and Android phones than iOS. Not a gripe, just an observation considering its Google features. When my old Apple sport finally breaks, I’ll replace it with another Apple watch. You, however, might opt for this one. I’d say it’s for Fossil enthusiasts and those who will go with just about any brand to avoid Apple, LOL. No other reason to go with it as there is no superiority here…

I was a bit apprehensive ordering an electronic item listed as "used, condition good". But, I have to say that I'm super happy with this purchase as it is in mint condition. No signs of wear & tear at all, and functions perfectly!

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife after her Fitbit turned out to be a complete disappointment. She ended up getting it a few days early because I am horrible with surprises and her Fitbit finally stopped working. Initially, she loved it. Once she discovered the app and all of the different watch faces available, she was super excited. It fit comfortably with the factory band and she liked the size of it.

I received a lot of texts the first day with it about how much she liked it. She was a little concerned that she couldn't make it through a whole day on a complete charge though. She would put it on the charger before bed, put it on as she walked out the door to work and by the time she got home from work, 9-10 hours later, it was dead. Wouldn't even last 12 hours. That was concerning.

Now, after almost 3 weeks, it will only last 5 or 6 hours and is dead. My wife is not a very tech savvy person, I turned off a lot of the features that she wouldn't use or didn't need. Still cannot make it through an 8 hour work day. And within the last 2 days, it has started to freeze up and stop working. It got sent back today. Not even a month old and it has these kinds of issues. She loved the features and the watch, but if it won't last all day what is the point of wearing it?

Not sure how the sleep tracking works since it had to stay on the charger at night and could not be worn.

I don't use the wellness features so I can't speak on that. I enjoy it for the most part, the battery just dies so fast. If you wanted to track your sleep you'd have to make sure to charge it before you went to bed

I buy the watch, charge it to 100% and less than 9 hours later, it's at 50... Supposedly the watch has features like sleep tracking and such, but there's a flaw with that. If the battery doesn't even last 24 hours, do you take your watch off when you wake up and charge it before you start your day? Maybe you charge it on your way to work? I have a dozen or so Fossil watches, and I haven't worn any of them since I bought an apple watch. It looks and feels like a nice watch, but I'm very disappointed with this purchase.

Before buying this watch I looked at a lot of reviews and I was prepared for the battery life, interface, etc. But problems appeared where I did not expect them at all - and this is charging! Since the watch discharges quite quickly, it needs to be charged daily. But to start the charging process you need to use Magic! Twist the cable in different positions so that the charging process begins. I've never had a problem with a charger on any device in my entire life! It's very disappointing and spoils the experience of using this watch. And this is all after a month of waiting!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product( What's this? )
My son has a fitness type wearable, but he just doesn't like the look of it, so he doesn't wear it all the time. He does wear this! I would characterize it as more of a watch that does some extra things. Not as fitness item that happens to have a watch. I know that is a subtle distinction, and I hope it makes sense. For what he likes, it is a great compromise.

Foremost, it looks like a watch. It is still sporty-looking, but does look like a more traditional watch in its display and styling. It has a tick-type second hand, not a sweep on its display. The battery life is not good. We don't have any other similar items to compare it with, but it seems like any item like this should last all day with typical use. I mean, I understand if you are using a lot of the software and things it may be shorter, but I just wish it would work for 12+ hours with average use.

It does work with Alexa, but not google. We use a lot of alexa items so it is okay for our house, but yours may be different. It works well with my son's Apple phone which isn't always the case with things that are supposed to work with both Apple and Android.

Is this the most fitness-centric wearable you can have? No, not at all. But as a watch that has some fitness added features, it is good. It doesn't look like you are wearing some monitor, but more like a watch. The band is also easy to change if you want to get a leather one (this one is silicone) to make it even more watch-like. For a sort of hybrid item, it is very good.

I've had a Samsung Active 2 since they came out and was overdue for an upgrade. Was gifted a Pixel 6, but decided to go with Fossil over Google for my smartwatch. I'm full of regrets. This watch isn't even as good as the SA2. I've only used it 6 days and have already had to reset to factory. Only, it didn't REALLY reset. Step count jumped by 20000 steps for no reason ,prompting the reset, and after reset has settled on a surplus of 2000. I waited until after midnight to see if it would self correct and go to zero, it didn't. I don't know why there isn't a way to reset one stat instead of resetting the whole watch, but it's all a fail. Watch faces are very limited, and trying to change and customize the available options is frustrating. Sometimes the changes are applied, most times they aren't. Watch tracks sleep, but doesn't sync sleep data to app unless I turn off wifi. This ONLY happens with the sleep data. Battery life is less than a day, but the fast charging helps ease that pain. Watch is supposed to be able to mirror DND on phone, but it doesn't follow the rules. Notifications and calls that are allowed during DND on phone don't come through on the watch. It's also frustrating that the developers thought anyone would want the watch to take precedence over the car audio system. If you enable taking calls on your watch and you're driving, the call rings on the watch and answers on the watch. Switching this while driving is dangerous. Watch is beautiful, but the band is horrible. It picks up every little bit of anything. After 4 days of wear, the soft matte finish of the silicone on the strap stays has rubbed off and is shiny. I was trying to make this work, but it's a no. What should have been an upgrade feels like the opposite.
