Review

If you want to better advocate for yourself - in business and in life - Heather Hansen's insights in The Elegant Warrior will prove invaluable.
- Dorie Clark, adjunct professor at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and author, Entrepreneurial You and Stand Out

With insight, wonderful examples, and a strong motivational voice, Heather Hansen provides a beacon for women who want to create a life of unique meaning and purpose. She doesn't promise that the path will be easy but, like the words of a true friend whispered in your ear, her encouragement will make your journey rewarding.
- Lois P. Frankel, Ph.D., author of Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office

The Elegant Warrior pairs extraordinary stories from inside the courtroom with actionable advice to use outside the courtroom. By applying the tools successful lawyers use to your own challenges, you'll find the evidence that proves you're a winner and a warrior.
- Mel Robbins, Author of the international bestseller, The 5 Second Rule

"... contains plenty of valuable, adaptable life lessons to help readers through tricky situations. A template for achieving personal and career goals."- Publishers Weekly

"There are books I wish I had when I became an adult and this is one of them. The advice from the author is both practical and compelling because life is a battlefield and no one gets out alive. Your job is to both survive and prosper while keeping your sense of self intact and this book will help you with that.

The author, Heather Hansen, is an award winning trial lawyer of 20 years who specializes in medical malpractice cases. You may have seen her on television shows like CNN, NBC, Fox News Channel, and Good Day Philadelphia when she is invited to provide expert analysis of current cases in the news. Currently she travels the country as a communication consultant and professional speaker.

In this book Hansen offers stories from her time as a trial attorney along with the lessons she learned along the way. The stories themselves are both interesting and heartbreaking because in every trial there is a winner and a loser and in some cases the difference is not that clear. The author takes you by the hand and teaches you how to get through life and be an elegant warrior who isn't afraid of difficult situations but looks forward to the challenges. You'll learn how to battle doubt, fear, guilt and uncertainty while remaining true to yourself. These lessons apply to both men and women and to your personal and business life.

My favorite chapter is "Pick People Well". It made me laugh because I remember a family member saying he always took one of his engineering books to jury duty so that if he was selected for voir dire the attorneys would think he was smart and therefore dismiss him. I don't know if this is true but I do know in real life we make these choices every day. You'll learn the criteria to consider when you choose a babysitter, a gardener, a doctor or a date.

Life is messy and difficult but it can be joyous and fulfilling. Follow the author's advice and you'll find the path you need to make life easier and less difficult."
- B. Davis

I truly enjoyed The Elegant Warrior right until the very last line that made me smile! The size of the book and chapter sizes were perfect. Easy to move right through, concise, and full of lessons. I have 3 kids, full time working parents, several sporting events to navigate schedules, and lots more mixed in this lovely life. I truly was able to savor each story and lesson in between my daily routine when I got to pull out and read to get good nuggets to ponder and apply. The photo above here I was reading it while at my kids swim meet. "see rejection as redirection"... "what is meant for you will not pass you by".. "try to let your losses leave you with lessons" Love LOVE lOve.. I look forward to reading more from Heather in the future!

The Elegant Warrior by Heather Hansen is filled with great advice from cover to cover! Hansen takes lessons she’s learned as a trial lawyer and gives them a life application.

While the stories take place in the courtroom, you’ll never feel like you’re reading a law school text book. Hansen has an ability to tell each story in a way that’s engaging, easy to understand and sometimes funny.

The short length of each chapter allows you to read a little at a time without stopping in the middle of a story if you only have a few minutes, although I couldn’t put it down and got through it in a couple of sittings. There is something in here for everyone, and the summary at the end of each chapter gives the key takeaways that can be useful in a variety of situations, both complex and simple.

I loved and was able to find a place in my life where each of these lessons can be applied. My favorite was the suggestion of keeping a laughter journal – sit down at the end of each day and write down three things that made you laugh.

I plan to refer to this book often and read it over and over again.

I loved this book. It was so empowering and positive and the author provides all these great nuggets of wisdom from her experience as a trial attorney. They are so applicable to everyday life - speak up for yourself, find humor in things, be curious and ask questions, compromise. I even pulled out my highlight for this one so I can go back and reread the pieces of advice that most resonated with me. I also love that the author gave proof in each chapter to support her wisdom with evidence-based studies and experts. It’s also a very quick read and the author is very relatable; her tone always feels supportive, not harsh. Highly recommend Elegant Warrior and just ordered more copies for my sisters.

This book is a must read with great life lessons and truths that we could all use hearing from time to time. By sharing her own personal experiences in well written stories, Heather does a great job of getting the point across and giving actionable steps you can take today towards your goals and getting what you want. I enjoyed the short chapters, packed with info and have appreciated the summaries at the end of each chapter which have helped me reference back to things after finishing the book. I would highly suggest also checking out Heather's podcast, Elegant Warrior, and her blog, Heather Hansen Presents!

I've followed Heather Hansen for a number of years. I've always found her to be thoughtful, reaching well reasoned conclusions. So when I found out she'd written a book I was excited to read it. I was not disappointed.

Ms Hansen draws life lessons from the various stages of a court case. She masterfully weaves personal stories into each chapter to illustrate her point. I particularly enjoyed the chance to "get to know her" through these stories. In some ways this has the flavor of a memoir.

This book is an easy read with easy to apply lessons. And while I've never met Ms Hansen, I'm convinced she is sincere and honest. I recommend this book without reservations.

I was so delighted to read this book filled with wonderful tips, anecdotes, and insights. Heather Hansen has created a road map forward for those of us interested in creating a life that is true, compassionate, and fearless. Her experience as a trial attorney is elegantly translated into a recipe for self-advocacy. Reading this book is like having one's own personal cheerleader. A must read. I enjoyed this book. The author’s authentic voice invites you to learn the lessons that have allowed her to be true to herself and when faced with life’s battles, fight with elegance. This book will empower you to use your voice, as she says, “No one can say what you have to say, and no one can say it the way you will. The world needs your perspective, your questions, and even your objections.” She gently guides readers through the importance of learning to be your own advocate (difficult for many of us), learn lessons to move through losses, rest to recover and nurture the song in your own heart. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The Elegant Warrior is a to-the-point, brilliant composition of moments captured from the pages of the author’s life which she drives home in both poignant and entertaining ways. Part memoir, part inspiration, it is a must read for any person - most especially women, young and not so young alike - interested in refining our approaches to whatever life brings our way. An awesome read!

This book is a quick and enjoyable read (wish I could say the same about other business-oriented books!) I particularly loved the stories and examples of Heather's life as a young trial lawyer and what she learned along the way. I found Heather's examples both insightful, engaging and inspiring. Throughout the book I found myself returning to my own career and saying "I can relate to that..." The lessons learned are simple and powerful. I plan to buy 'The Elegant Warrior' for my female friends and clients.
