Dinosaur Wars: Dinosaur Lake, Book 4 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged
For seven long years, chief park ranger Henry Shore has been dealing with and fighting anachronistic dinosaurs in his beloved Crater Lake National Park and in the surrounding town of Klamath Falls. It began with one lone leviathan, the one he tongue-in-cheek called Godzilla. Henry and his band of heroes defeated it but others followed: the flying varieties he named gargoyles, the mutant t-rexes and roaming velociraptors that were so much smarter than their ancient ancestors. He, his rangers and the National Guard soldiers, fought all of them, but still the dinosaurs, cunningly destructive and bloodthirsty, kept coming. No one knew where they came from or what the future would now hold for a besieged humanity, they only knew the monsters were spreading like a voracious wildfire and had to be stopped before they ravaged the world. Eventually, he and his wife, Ann, their family and friends, retreated into a fortified ranger headquarters where they continued to battle the proliferating dinosaurs. Will Henry's son-in-law, Doctor Justin Maltin, a brilliant paleontologist, find a way to exterminate the creatures and save them...save the world? And, more importantly, would he be able to do it in time? Dinosaur Wars is the fourth and final book of the Dinosaur Lake series.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2017Dear Kathryn,
Just finished your Dinosaur Lake Quadrilogy - the only works of yours I have read so far. Sometimes with a new author (to me), I am cautious and curious, not really knowing what to expect or how soon I may tire of reading this new author. However, and I am very pleased to say, you are a delightful contradiction to that view I initially feel.
Another compliment to your writing style is that I actually could not put your novels down, from the first to the last read and I have never said that about any author (even Clive Cussler, Wilbur Smith, Tess Gerritsen, Steve Alten, Victor Methos, Donovan Galway, or any others).
I loved the way you developed the main characters from their initial physical descriptions, to their secret thoughts and dreams, to the love they showed for each other and especially how they banded together with such a fierce camaraderie to fight the dinosaurs.
The little monkey-like simian dinosaur at the window, who liked and helped the humans, describing its animal reasoning in trying to understand the "stick people" was a very nice touch. All your characters are so full of life and the joy of living and it is this vibrancy which propelled me uncontrollably through your four novels. At all times, I could see, smell and hear what was taking place - from the beautiful descriptions of the park, to the rustic homeyness of Henry and Ann's cottage, to the sound of the swift diving of the "winged gargoyles" from above and, of course, to the vivid descriptions of the dinosaurs tearing people into pieces (the part about Justin rescuing Delores from the huge gargoyle on the roof of the convention centre was vividly terrifying).
Your vignettes of the afterlife were also most touching and believable - I, as well, believe in the existence beyond death of some nature, otherwise what future destiny beyond our eventual passing will our lives hopefully encompass? To me, these beliefs are a sign of an open, enquiring and intelligent mind.
Nice to see how each succeeding book kept referring to the one before - kind of like "last episode reminders" to keep the reader focused. Considering all the terrible tragedy in these novels, you managed to develop a hope for better things to come (God never closes a door but that He opens a window).
In short, Kathryn Meyer Griffith - YOU ROCK!
Thank you for a fantastic read.
Chris Reilly
- Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2017"Dinosaur Lake IV: Dinosaur Wars" was definitely worth waiting for and it did not disappoint. Again a book in this series kept me up reading all night from start to finish as there was no putting this book down. Kathryn Meyer Griffith again wrote an awesome book to the final one in this series awesome nondescript the only bad thing I can think of is this is the last book, as I would give anything for another one added to this great series. This book and the whole series is a highly recommended must read, at least by my thinking and I'm sure once you've read them you, the reader, will feel the same. How Kathryn took something so prehistoric and brought it up into our century and made it such a great set to want to read, feeling you were right there with them was the best feeling ever. Kathryn, if you ever decide on a little add on to this series in the future, I will be right there to read it and pass it on to everyone I can. I loved this series and the way it was written, seriously while reading it you can almost see yourself in the pages. More please....
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2017This is a very good series, and I recommend that you start with the first book and read them in order. Events in each subsequent book have a lot to do with the preceding volumes.
A geological phenomenon brings magma closer to the surface of the earth, where it warms up dinosaur eggs that have been in chilled stasis for millions of years. They hatch out, come to the surface, and slowly reveal themselves in a wide variety of species and abilities, from flying teratorn types to velociraptor types to T-Rex types. I say types because these modern dinos are very intelligent and have some characteristics that were not noted in the fossil remains.
Once on the surface, they are very hungry, very aggressive, and surprisingly intelligent. In this book, the dinos have evolved to begin throwing rocks and dirt clods as weapons against the struggling humans using military equipment. They show that they can strategize, communicate, and work as a group, even if the group seems to be thousands.
They're also appearing all over the world by now. At first this phenomenon seemed to be limited to the Crater Lake National Park (a real place, but no dinosaur presence), but this is changing. The dinosaurs are smart enough to stay out of sight until their numbers are overwhelming, then make guerilla-style attacks against individual humans, then against communities and cities.
Despite some serious impossibilities, the series is engrossing, and the human characters are interesting. You'll even fall in love with the one dinosaur who doesn't seem to have killing all humans on his mind. He watches the humans in their fortified homes, and rescues a lost cat, bringing it it to the chief ranger's wife. It's thinking a lot, but it doesn't understand much of what it sees, and isn't even sure why it didn't just eat the cat, but it knew that Ann loved her cat, and that this other cat needed to be returned.
All of the books in the series could use some editing, fixing some random grammatical issues, correcting some names, and so forth. I know that sometimes names of real things are changed so that the companies involved do not sue over being part of a dinosaur apocalypse, but in that case, it's best to just drop the name altogether. We all know what chocolate bars are, you don't need to call them Hersey, changing the spelling of Hershey. Since real places appear in this series, sometimes one notices name errors, such as Skell being referred to as Skull in one chapter of an early book, then back to Skell in the same chapter. Don't use these books as your guides to a Crater Lake visit, as you will quickly find some things that had to be changed to make the book series work.
At heart, though, most of us are still in grade school and would love finding a secret cavern full of dinosaur eggs, or sighting a flying dinosaur overhead, right before it swooped down and picked up a trolley full of people. Griffith is a great story teller.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2021I chose 5 stars because this book is worth it. 1) great characters, you definitely want to know 2) the mounting suspense; will Ann, Henry, McDowell, Justin and Steven survive? 3) ever expanding view of dinosaurs' destruction 4) someone is actually wanting to save the world 5) ever more different dinosaurs exploding throughout the book wreaking absolute havoc - plus one very unusual evolvingspecies! Read the book; better yet, read the series . You
won't regret it.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2022This is book #4. Each one seems to bring different aspects of the story to life. It's wonderful to follow the characters as they deal with the dinosaurs. Being drawn into the drama as it unfolds. I really look forward to reading the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series
I've read all 4 of these and waited until now to review them.
They are a fantastic series of books and well deserve a read.
They need to be read in order though as they follow on from each other and I wish there was just one more
to close a loophole which I'm not sure the author left open deliberately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dinosaur Lake
I loved this series of books, I was disappointed it had come to an end. The writing of the story was impeccable, it immersed the reader into the story so unbelievably well it felt like you were there with the characters going through it all with them. I will miss being transported to their world. Well done Kathryn Meyer Griffith.

4.0 out of 5 stars Timothy time line
Loved all of them. Problem with this one was the age of Timothy when Laura was killed you have him walking at 6 months? But in this one he’s just starting to walk and holding onto things to keep his balance
